“Great Family Atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 14, 2014

If your looking for a high end, typical all inclusive Caribbean vacation this is not the place to stay. If you looking for great service, friendly staff and a feeling that your gone to your cottage for the week, this is the place to stay. Gerri Lee and his staff are amazing. I loved being steps from the Ocean in cabin like accommodations. The rooms were clean and gave us everything we needed. The staff at the restaurant were great. We ate at many places along the beach but never had that welcome feeling like we had at Fosters. King Crab night was lots of fun! I enjoyed being away from the cluster of resorts and restaurant's farther up the beach. The snorkeling was only a quick 10min walk up the beach. If you are really adventurous you can stay in the treehouse. The climb up the stairs is not for the faint of heart, but a cool place to see. I would go back to Fosters in a heart beat.

Room Tip: The one above the Gift Shop feels like you are sleeping right above the Ocean. Amazing sunsets.

Stayed a week at Fosters in Cabana #1 as a solo female traveler.

Pros: Clean, friendly staff, good size refrigerator. Quiet and decent restaurant (enjoyed the lobster specials). Decent price.

Cons: Was at the very far end of the beach from the snorkeling. Although I had a water view, they are building a large structure in front of the cabanas that detracts from the view. There is a bit of a swamp running by and behind the cabana that I think contributed to the mosquito population - there was really no time of the day (in Sept.) that I could utilize the hammock or chairs on my front porch due to the bugs.

As a solo female I didn't feel comfortable being out on the beach after dark - I was out after dark three nights walking back from restaurants and although nothing happened, I was a bit anxious on those walks.

If I return to Roatan I will likely stay at Banarama as it's more centrally located and was a bit better social scene at the bar area. Also it would be a closer walk to the snorkeling.

If you want an all-inclusive, resort-style, buffet-at-every-meal place, then there are other location on Roatan for you. If, like me, you want to spend time with the person (or people) you came with, have a beach that's not crowded, a very friendly staff, fantastic diving, and an owner who is around and happy to help, and you want that all for a very reasonable price, then it's hard to do better than Foster's.

My family of five adults stayed in the two bedroom second floor unit called High House #2 from August 13th through the 23rd and we loved it from the moment we arrived and didn't want to leave! Although not fancy, the unit was clean and comfortable and felt quite homey and we were very happy there. We spent a lot of time between activities on the porch with a great view of the bay. The Fosters property is very nice with many different buildings with different style units and Fosters restaurant and the Happy Buddha bar maybe 50 feet from our unit's steps. We ate at a lot of different restaurants on West Bay beach and in West End as well as a couple further up the island and we all agreed that the food and atmosphere at Fosters was our favorite by far (i wish i had one of their fish tacos right now!) Foster and his sons were very friendly and accommodating and were always around if you needed anything from a ride to various places around the island or advice on where to go and what to do or just to chat about island life and learn about the culture on the island. The staff at the restaurant and all of the staff at Fosters for that matter were very friendly and helpful and a joy to talk to. every morning they rake and spray the sand to cut down on the sand flies and although sand flies are a part of life in this area of the world, there are noticably fewer sand flies at Fosters than some other locations down the beach - so their efforts every morning certainly make a difference! We stayed in August, so it believe there are only cruise ships on Wednesdays and Thursdays. There are definitely more people there when the cruise ship is in - everywhere, not just Fosters, but i never felt like it was overcrowded at Fosters when the ships were in, just busier. There is live music most nights which was great and we enjoyed it very much even just sitting on the porch at the end of an eventful day, the music from below gave it a festive feel. A couple of nights the music went on quite late into the night and some nights we went to bed pretty early, but inside the unit it wasn't very loud so i had no trouble sleeping through it. If you are a very light sleeper you may want to choose a unit further away from the restaurant, but we liked it! Overall, we had an amazing stay at Fosters and when we get a chance to return to Roatan, we will definitely stay with them again!!!

Room Tip: I didn't look at the other rooms, but the unit we stayed in wasn't huge but we didn't fe...

The people working at the restaurant are wonderful, they provide great service and a wonderful atmosphere with foods at a decent price. The beach is beautiful, however it's hard to not be bothered by the many people that come up to you asking if you would like to buy something from them. The use of the word no thank you takes a while to set in. Though, if you are into buying items and services (massages, hair-braiding) then it's perfect. If you want to go out on a snorkeling tour, or fishing tour, look for a boat called "Three Sisters" and a man named Winston. He took our family to numerous beautiful locations for snorkeling and scuba diving and jumped right in with us to show us the best parts of the coral reefs. His prices are very affordable, and his schedule is very flexible. He usually is right outside of Fosters. Another thing is, the space in the bungalows are a little tight and hard to get around, but still a decent room to stay in! All in all, the place had a good atmosphere and my family would stay there again.

Mr. Foster is the kindest gentleman and most generous host. we had the pleasure of staying in the treehouse on his property last week and had the most wonderful time. Although his property "Foster's of West Bay" consists of a number of beautiful bungalows, houses and suites equipped with flat screen tvs, air conditioning and other emenities, he built this tree house 40 years ago when he was 18years old and it was simply amazing. No tv, no air conditioning, just the sound of the birds, the breeze and nature at our window. lizards certainly roomed in with us however it just made the experience that much more perfect.
The food is excellent, Lobster tails all week long. and the drinks were spectacular as well.
Best location on the beach, away from the infinity hotel and high rise hotels, it is at the cusp of a beautiful walk along the beach to West End

Room Tip: on fri and saturday nights it is loud due to music played by another bar. discuss this wlth mister f...

I went with a group of friends to Roatan. Foster's was our choice. We all expected--rustic, cheap, on the beach, and nice enough. We were not disappointed. Don't come here expecting 5 star luxury. Go elsewhere if that is what you want. Foster's location on the West Bay is wonderful-white sand, clear blue water, and about a 1/2 mile of public beach shared by vendors, restaurants, and other hotels. We were there in June--off season. No crowds. Not too much aggresive hustle from local peddlers. Our group snorkeled right off the beach. The divers in our group went out scuba diving many times with well qualified guides. The food at Foster's in particular and Roatan in general was some of the best I've had. (Foster's two lobster tails for $12--on Thurs. night. What a deal! Also, down the beach at the Argentine Restaurant-whole grilled Red Snapper. Excellent.) The air conditioner in our room worked great. It will freeze you out. This is a necessity in this climate. No complaints. The Foster staff was really good. Leslie runs the bar and grill. Her food and drink and warm spirit were well appreciated by our group. Lincoln on the staff also deserves high praise. He will take good care of you--for whatever you need. Only down side--what is said about sand flees is true. Maybe seasonal? Bring bug spray for your body. Those suckers will bite.

Room Tip: We were to get a cabin with a beach view. Only problem was that they are now building a new dive sh...
