“Basic but friendly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

We have just stayed for 3 nights at Ruswarp Hall. Having read previous reviews I was a little apprehensive..... The hall is a little tired and needs some TLC. Our room was really basic if your looking for crisp white sheets and a modern bathroom then you will be disappointed, the bedding had seen better days the quilt cover did not even fit, the mattress was really old and lumpy. Breakfast was really good though. We certainly will not be returning to Ruswarp Hall.

Room Tip: Not sure if any rooms are any good

We stayed here overnight recently. The house itself is lovely, great entrance hall and lovely gardens to the rear. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. We walked to Whitby which only took around 30mins. We booked a double room which was nice however I felt that it needed some updating, the carpet was quite shabby, toilet wasn't clean and the bathroom fan made a squealing noise. I love staying in older properties and accept that they can be rough around the edges, however I felt this place needed a bit of TLC.

I stayed here almost exactly a year ago this month and wrote a review stating how much I Loved the place and it's History. A year on and I still Love the place and it's History BUT it just wasn't the same and not because,as some would say "you shouldn't go back it's never the same." Minor points such as duff lightbulb in room, bedside lamp not working, duvet cover with all poppers missing so quilt stuck out of the end, the valance falling off on one side revealing the base as a drawer divan no these were not the main concern, the main concern was what went on when we booked the room. My partner rang and was told there was a double room but it did not have guaranteed parking due to road works. At this time we were quoted £70 for the room. Due to the parking we initially declined but had second thoughts and decided to go ahead. When my partner rang back she was told the room had gone but something made her feel this was not the case. I then rang a few minutes later to be told there was a room available HOWEVER it was quoted as £76 !!! I did not question this as it was late in the day and we needed a room but it left a nasty taste. Room 1 is basic to say the least. I still love the place (building/history) but would not stay there again sadly.

Room Tip: Don't choose room 1.

We stayed in Ruswarp Hall for one night last summer. The am staff were very friendly and welcoming and the hall was gorgeous. Parking is tight but we managed to find a spot. The free breakfast was beautiful and made to order. The ground and the hall were very quiet and cosy. We enjoyed the walk into Whitby, about 20 minutes. The rooms were clean, and comfortable, phone signal was low and no wifi access, tv channels also limited. Overall our stay was lovely and relaxing. Thank you!

We stayed 2 nights at this lovely and highly recommended B&B. A very large house with garden at the back and view over fields , car park at the front. We arrived by bus from Scarborough and went straight to the tourist information. Ruswarp hall can be done on foot , 20mn walk on a flat /rocky path along the river/railway track which leads straight to Ruswarp lovely mini station , turn right and you will find the primary school, butcher shop and Ruswarp Hall. Once there, you may want to get back to Whitby or follow Cinder path via the pathway just adjacent to Ruswarp Hall - there are signposts along the way to indicate directions but there are stairs and there is at least one road to cross but worth discovering. Lovely location to enjoy walking or as a base. If not mobile, one can also take the train to and from Whitby or bus service just by B and B but the service not too often.
We were given a family room at the top of the house with view over the back fields. To our delight, there were two separate bedrooms and a very large bathroom , all three rooms with large windows (although the bathroom window did not shut properly) but the heating was kept low. Tea /coffee facilities in the bedroom, flat screen TV and toiletries.
Breakfast was within set time 8h30-9h30 am but attentive table service and full english breakfast. The common room had a chest games which was handy and access directly to the very large back garden.
We all slept very well despite our double bed mattress being a bit springy ! I have not seen the other rooms but we were happy with our stay. We would definitively come back another time.

Room Tip: We love our large family room at the top of the house with view over the back - Not suitable for peo...

We have just taken a short break in Ruswarp Yorkshire a place I have been previously unaware existed but I'm finding that on my return home I just can't wait to go back, we had a 2 night stay at Ruswarp Hall a Jacobean building which is in the very friendly hands of Alison and Colin who were perfect hosts they made ourselves and our 8 year old little girl feel comfortable and relaxed, our room was large the gardens lovely the breakfast filling, it could do with a little sprucing up decor wise and the bedding was a little dated but it was very clean and warm and little touches like packets of sweeties on the pillows were welcomed, the village is very quaint and quiet but you won't be lost for anything to do there is an indoor play are and a park with petting animals rowing boat hire( we were fortunate to get sunshine, lovely walks and a train that takes about 5 minutes to get you into whitby town which comes 4 times a day I think but also regular buses, but the walk into whitby is 40 minutes or thereabouts running alongside the train lines, the village pub served good food and also had live music on on Saturday night, which ended our last night there perfectly, I now want to live there : ))

Room Tip: Ask to look at the room before you take your bags anywhere we were happy with ours but then peeking...

This hotel was very good value with breakfast included. The service provided was excellent. The room was lovely and had everything you would need. The only negative was the pillows made the stay very uncomfortable - very flat and hard! Woke up with a stiff neck! But overall a lovely place to stay!
