“Beautiful - Rhododendrons, Azaleas & Scones”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

We parked in the lay-by just off the A697, which is free and walked through Dundock Wood, past the wooded side of the lake and down to the craft shops and cafe. Lots of interesting things to see and a super little play area for small children. Picnic tables abound round the lake. Swan, ducks and herons easily spotted but for the more discerning birdwatcher there is a small hide tucked into the wood on the lake edge. The fruit scones and lemon scones were delightful. The main reason for visiting was the flowers in the wood and we weren't disappointed. Beautiful. Lots of varieties of Rhododendrons and Azaleas. We live close by and will be back!

“Wonderful walks and crafts in idyllic estate land”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

We are actually staying on the Hirsel Estate in a small cottage, and so have the opportunity to explore the many way-marked paths which weave in and around the many woods and the winding river. Idyllic scenery, wildlife, and peaceful surroundings make the Hirsel well worth a detour.
There are craft shops and a tea room serving great cakes and savouries; a pottery, textiles, and small museum telling all about the Estate. Superb photographs of the fours seasons on Hirsel are also housed in a courtyard room.
