“Could have been so much better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013 via mobile

We stayed on a Friday night for a quick break after work. It's a nice place with a friendly atmosphere but the food was cold when it arrived. The staff were very helpful and there were a lot of them but the service was a little slow. The room was nice, but cold during the night with no extra bedding in the room.
Every cloud has a silver lining though, the breakfast was exceptional and the lady who served us was an absolute gem!!

The hotel staff were very welcoming. Unfortunately the rooms have not been updated. The worst features were the bed and the shower. The wardrobe and units were virtually full of spare hotel bedding and cleaning materials when we arrived. A lot of TLC is required to bring the hotel up to standard.

Stayed one night at The Dun Cow. Excellent breakfast, very accommodating, friendly service, rooms a little tired but clean. Good value.
Sedgefield is a nice town close to A1. We did not have diner here but it looked popular with an extensive menu for lunch and diner. Car park behind the hotel.

Went for a meal here with friends. Had heard excellent reviews and after the Sunday lunch I was served I would agree and go much further. Sunday lunch itself was beautiful. The restaurant had a great selection of food and vegetarian options. Good ales on tap and service was quick and friendly. Will definite go here again when I'm in the neighborhood.

We have just returned from a three day stay in Sedgefield and although we didnt actually stay at The Dun Cow Inn we ate here for two of the three nights and I have to say the food was delicious. Its a little bit pricier than some places but its well worth the extra. I f we go to Sedgefield again, which is very likely, then i think will we probably stay here aswell as eat here. Its a lovely place and the staff are friendly and professional and provide an excellent service. Highly recommended.

We stayed on Saturday 8th December 2012. Given Room 4 [ask for this one], which was very well furnished with an immaculate en-suite batthroom. Cottage styliish with a modern flat screen T.V. Breakfast was superb! Hot plates, freshly cooked and really friendly service. Nothing was too much trouble. We are local and only stayed because my wife was attending a function nearby but what a find! If you are visiting the area then this pub should tick all the boxes because it's near the A1 and close to Durham, Newcastle and the coast.

Room Tip: The quiet room is 4 because it's on the side of the pub and not above any bar areas.
