“Fantastic Meals and Accommodations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2013

I am a first year medical student at the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and my class and I had the opportunity to stay at the Manitoulin Hotel and Conference Centre during our orientation week. We had an excellent time at this Hotel and Conference Centre. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the accommodations were beautiful and the food was delicious. As a whole the Manitoulin Hotel and Conference Centre was a very serene and peaceful location and would strongly recommend this location to other travellers.

Sincerely,
-NOSM Students.

This is hotel opened June this year 2013. We stayed for four nights. The decor and motif reflects the island local flavour being a Canadian Aboriginal Island. The original paintings and prints by Duncan Pheasant- a local native artist are just so pretty and colourful. My husband bought the print in our room since he liked it so much. They were kind enough to take it off the wall for us.
The rooms are nice. They have a small ref, Kurig coffee maker, shower stall with glass doors but no soap dish or holder.
The staff are so helpful and willing to please. The location is great. Situated right behind the causeway and walking distance to the old swinging bridge and the town of Little current. You can walk right behind to the marina. The restaurant had a very good grilled Whitefish Dinner. I had it twice. I'd highly recommend this hotel to everyone. Will definitely come back.

Room Tip: Ask for the water view.

This hotel was such a surprise as it doesn't look too inviting from the exterior, maybe a bit of landscaping would help. However, the interior is very appealing, the staff were caring and attentive, rooms very clean, food great - what else to say? The hotel is still doing some finishing touches as it only opened in May but they are well on their way to having a first class place to stop. We were here in September with some overseas visitors and they really appreciated the First Nations' aspect, especially the beautiful art by Mr. Pleasance. A nice gesture was providing a notecard of his art in each room. Our friends bought more to take home to Australia. During the summer the terrace overlooking the water would be fantastic. There is really nowhere else to stay in Little Current where you would want to bring visitors from other parts of Canada or overseas.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a room on the north side, overlooking the North Channel, and as high up as you can...

As a guest of an attendee at the NOAA networking dinner meeting this past September , I had the opportunity to visit this new hotel personally and was absolutely taken aback by not only the beauty and atmosphere of this cultural based facitity but was pleasantly impressed by the care given to guests by staff and the quality of the food provided. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a business meetng venue or even personal stay. The rooms had great views of the North Channel waterway, everything right down to the windows were spotless. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by the staff with a real northern welcome, We found everything to be flawless.
So wonderful, that we are planning to return soon. Found this hotel to be a cut above many we have stayed at in large centres in the Toronto area.

We stayed in July 2013, and unfortunately the hotel was still in a state of development.

Firstly it took a little effort to find the hotel, didn't help as no sign outside, and only a small paper one taped to a lamppost to highlight it was actually open!

Having parked up and made our way inside, the reception looked lovely and filled with charm, unfortunately this is where we felt the charm ended.

Firstly we were told the lifts were out of action 'due to engineers being on strike' seeing other reviews said the lifts were not working in September, this seems a little bit of white lie to us!... Anyhow we made our way up the fire escape stairs to our room with our large bags, and no we weren't offered any help with them.

Anyhow when we got to our room it was a nice size and new furniture and very comfortable beds. However, all the furniture as you can see from pictures is all very much off the shelf and lacks any charm, and if anything maybe there was a little too much for the size of the room.

Again the bathroom on first inspection looked very nice and modern, however in practical terms seemed to lack some simple additions, no soap dish (and with modern bowl sinks means there is nowhere to put it), no shelf in the shower, so you have to bend down to pick up soap etc... further to this water supply for the shower come sout the side wall so you end up wrestling with the shower hose whilst in the shower....

we had a room overlooking the harbour, and again great views, however the windows felt small and didn't make the most of the view. What I don't understand is why the windows weren't built to be bigger or even any form of balcony to look out over the harbour and really make the most of the views.

On the more generic hotel areas we felt there was a complete lack of charm, it felt very much like a chain hotel, rather than a aboriginal hotel, I would love to have seen more artwork around the hotel etc - maybe this will come in time.

During our stay the restaurant wasn't open (so no food available on site) and neither was the pool. Neither of these were too much of a problem for us, however we were disappointed as not all the facilities were open.

Hopefully things will all up and running very soon... once it is I am sure it will be a great stay...

Unless you prefer to stay at a motel or B&B this really is your only choice in terms of a large hotel on the island. It is contemporary, updated and clean with very friendly service. The prices surprised me initially as I felt they were on par with city prices for a hotel on the island ...but after staying there and experiencing the down to earth and genuine people, I am more than happy to pay for great service and support the local community. The hotel also has a restaurant which is really nice as many places during off-season are not open or open with very limited hours. Once all the finishing touches are completed this will fantastic!

I have always loved visiting Manitoulin Island but the choice of accommodations is limited. More recently a few good bed and breakfasts have appeared and there are some nice campgrounds but a nice hotel was nowhere to be found. This really was a pleasant stay on all fronts. The staff were genuinely friendly and helpful, the rooms were quiet, spacious and beautiful. The view of the North Channel is fabulous. The food at the restaurant was delicious as well. The grilled whitefish was so flavourful and fresh. True there is no included breakfast like there is at some of the chain hotels but I am more than willing to pay a little extra in this case. I would highly recommend a stay here.

Room Tip: Choose a room that overlooks the water out the back of the hotel and if the weather is nice, eat out...
