“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

We just got back from our week stay at Silver Birches. I was disappointed as we were told that the pool was working and when we got there it had been obviously broken down for some time and would need major repairs. When we asked Rachael she said it would be fixed the next day and nothing was ever done throughout our stay. The other family that we went with, has been there a few times and spoke with Rachael and she reassured them that the Pool was available and working as in the past there has been something wrong with the pool. My kids were looking forward to the pool and if I had known that it was down again I would never have booked at this resort. I will never return here as there is always an excuse for the pool not working. Its really too bad because the resort is nice. The Cabin that we stayed in was big and renovated which was good. My suggestion is that they no longer advertise the pool as part of the resort amenities. Also looked for the Restaurant that they advertise and there was no restaurant on the resort (?)

Hello friends. Thank you for your constructive criticism about the pool. It has been an ongoing issue and has been looked at since your stay. We found the problem and are currently working with a pool company. Yes, the resort is a great place to be and is beautiful, thank you. The restaurant on our website is being advertised for 2014 and is clearly stated. We do have over 3000 feet of natural shoreline that all guests enjoy to swim in. I hope that you enjoy the rest of your summer season and do hope to see you again !!

just got back from a weekend away at silver birches and i'm looking forward to going back again. we stayed in a huge three bedroom cabin with so much space we could've had a dance in there. the manager and her family are so friendly and welcoming. as soon as we got there we felt like we were part of the family. the cabin was clean and the linens and towels were awesome too. the location is stunning too...so beautiful...it's a great place and i can't wait to go back and spend more time there!

Room Tip: cabin #1 has 3 bedrooms, a washroom with a tub and shower and two sofas too! easily sleeps 9 people

We went to silver birches for our Honeymoon and we got we we wanted ...secluded, no phone, tv or Internet so we paid attention to each other with no distractions which is how a honeymoon should be! And the hosts Rachel and Corey were so hospitable and friendly! Their daughter even taught me how to fish! We love this place, the cottage we rented was perfect, we sat on the back porch while watching the sunset !!! The next cottage was far enough for us to have our privacy ! It as just peaceful and you will
Be able to truly appreciate nature! We are going back this summer! so Rachel and Corey see you soon! I'd give the hotel a perfect 10!!!!

I’d like to offer a quick thank you to Rachel, her father and their whole entourage of jolly family and co-workers who made our stay at Silver Birches a fun and adventurous one. Not only stunning scenery and location, but the staffs work to restore the whole camp was uplifting, comforting and a relief to see the new owners care enough to restore the old rustic look of the whole camp, as well as the offer of some home conveniences. Although there is a lot of work ahead of them, I would gladly offer my recommendations to anyone who would consider going to Manitoulin Island for a stay of any length and stay at the Silver Birches Resort. I have yet to see any establishment so eager to please their customers as much as Rachel was happy and willing to make everyone around her just as happy as she is.

From us: Shawn A. Pearce/Christine Broeze/Lynne Raney/Paul Raney
A very special thank you all.

My husband and I just returned from a 4-night stay at Silver Birches in mid-May and we will cherish the memories from this getaway for a lifetime. Overall, I would say that our trip was so memorable because of two main factors: the people we met and the breathtaking natural setting. I am sure that Silver Birches is a place we will return to again and again- our newest tradition!

The management went above and beyond our expectations- so unbelievably generous, friendly and welcoming. The family who runs the resort quickly befriended us and welcomed us into their community of kind, fun-loving friends. We had just a fantastic time getting to know them and we could tell it was important to them that we enjoyed our stay at Silver Birches. Their website says "happy hour starts when you get here" and they weren't kidding! These folks were a blast, and they've got hearts of gold.

We enjoyed fishing, hiking the extensive trails on their breathtaking property, seeing the local wildlife, campfires with new friends, eating breakfast on the tranquil stony beach and watching incredible sunsets from our deck. My husband was at work during the day but I was never bored- too much to see and do and too many great people to meet! We were also grateful to find a place that was so wonderful about us bringing our dog. I actually think our pup wanted to stay behind when it was time to go home!

We stayed in Cabin #9. It was rustic, clean, private and surrounded by nature. There was a great deck with a breathtaking view of the water (sunset- WOW!) and path down to the beach. The website advised that the cabin was very basically equipped so we brought some amenities from home, but only ended up using our own towels (though we were offered some by the owners), dish soap/cloth, large travel mugs and griddle. I am sure that the managers could get you anything you needed (they asked us several times if we required anything), but as the website advises, it's a good idea to remember that they advertise their cabins as not completely-stocked in terms of odds-n-ends so bring anything you can't live without just in case. Our cabin had a basic set of plates/cups/utensils for 4, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, oven/stove, full fridge with freezer, clean sheets with nice pillows with a FABULOUS mattress on the bed, comfy couch, jacuzzi tub and a stunning stone fireplace. We were cozy and comfortable there.

To anyone considering this resort, I strongly advise that you read their website's "RATES" page- they are very transparent about what to expect. If you aren't into what comes along with a cabin experience in the wilderness (the odd bug, woodland creatures, and rustic accommodations), then maybe a 5-star spa resort in New York is a better vacation for you... we don't want grumpy, complaint-driven people with unrealistic expectations giving our new friends a hard time! On the other hand, if you are friendly, low-maintenance and laid-back folks, I can't recommend this place highly enough. I am sure you will love Silver Birches just as much as we did. It was perfect for folks like us!

Hello friends ! I wanted to thank you for joining us this year for the first time and for becoming life long friends. We had a great time with you and Emmie-loo as well. Remember that Happy Hour is only here when the people that bring it are...Silver Birches is sad now that you are gone but we will see eachother again.Thank you for your kind words...Silver Birches has a strange way of making all of us family, whether it is here or there, I am sure that we will know one another until the sun never sets. What is your favorite color in the sunsets ? he he. lol

The shoreline is clean and clear of reeds of swamp and the wind from the lake and the terrain makes this area suprisingly free of bugs. We have our own Spoon and Ladle Hiking Trail. Our cottages are well spaced with approximately an acre of land and the waterfront cottages have their own provate shoreline. We are looking for people who are "Silver Birches" material. People who are laid back and sociable and looking to get away from their high paced lives. We are people friendly and pet friendly. If you are high maintenance or complaint driven or afraid of the dark or getting dirt on your shoes of animals or nature then please do not book with us.
