“Wow Factor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

Stayed 2 nights in the Peacock Suite. Our first visit to Tulbagh but hopefully not our last. Villa Tarentaal is easy to find, on the outskirts of the town, down a long drive. Good parking, large grounds for walking or bird watching and that lovely feel of peace and tranquility. Lovely pool as well with comfortable chairs/seats and towels.
Great welcome from Graham and then that 'wow' factor as we were shown into the Peacock Suite. Wow at the lovely, large and airy bedroom (with open fire) and good sitting area and a further wow at the equally spacious bathroom.
This really was a top quality stay from start to finish. Both Graham and Brandi are naturally hospitable hosts and nothing is too much trouble.
Our accommodation included Gowns, safe and fridge and our own balcony for those excellent breakfasts. We described the view at Breakfast as 'majestic - so was the breakfast!
Lots to see and do in and around the town. Felt safe and happy walking around. Masses of eateries. Graham had booked us into Rijks (being sunday evening) for dinner and then De Oude Herberg the following night. Both excellent - the latter probably winning out!
Tulbagh will be on our must do's for our next visit to SA and so will Villa Tarentaal. Great place Great people.

There are guesthouses and 'guesthouses' and Villa Tarentaal is right up there with the best!
Having travelled Namibia, South Africa and Europe extensively we had a fantastic stay at Villa Tarentaal - it had everything one would need - even cotton and needles! The beautiful decorations and all the superb 'small' touches made an everlasting impression that will always be used when comparing to similar places. The whole experience of the great breakfast being served in the cottage (Fish Eagle), right on time, just confirms here is a guesthouse that is superbly managed and value the importance of their guest!
Graham to you and your staff a big thank you for making us feel so special.......we salute you!

My self and my sister went to Villa Tarentall for a weekend and it was 5 star service and 5 star accommodation.
Loved the breakfast it was the best I had in a long time.
Loved it, will be back. We enjoyed the Hotel so much that I had the most peaceful sleep in a long time.
Graham was wonderful and the service was excellent.
Will be back for the peace and quiet, and the hikes across Tulbagh.

South Africa is full of fabulous guest houses, and value for money in South Africa is better than anywhere else we've travelled. Villa Tarentaal is an example par excellence. Luxurious accommodation with all your needs met, in a fascinating part of South Africa, hosts who like to be hosts, terrific breakfasts brought to your room, and all for a very affordable price. Can't wait to get back there.

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the self-contained cottages - a really good choice

We spent a lovely three nights in this guest house conveniently located just outside the cute town of Tulbagh, where we visited for a family wedding. The room (Fish Eagle) was spacious and comfortable, providing plenty of room to stretch out and relax. It is perfectly set up for self catering, though you are also a short drive or walk to the town and its nice shops and restaurants. The breakfasts are served on your veranda and you are given a variety of unique choices, and you will definitely not go hungry during your stay. Graham is an excellent host who will help you with restaurant and excursion suggestions and reservations. This was very helpful, particularly on Sunday when only some establishments are open. Good wireless internet and DSTV with all the channels help keep you connected to the world, though this is the perfect place to get away from it all.

Stayed for two nights in the Blue Crane cottage (2 bedroom and 1 bathroom). The host Graham met us on arrival at the car and assisted us with our luggage and check-in. The cottage is beautifully decorated with a kitchenette, full boquet of DSTV (satelite TV), fire place and free WIFI. Graham made a dinner reservation for us at De Oudeherberg in town which were fantastic! Our highlight was the breakfast served on the veranda in the morning! We drove to Riebeek Kasteel only 25 min drive away for the Olive Festival on the Saturday – very easy drive. Beautiful garden with mountain views, what more can you ask for! Will defitely return very soon!

Villa tarentaal was exactly how I imagined a honeymoon to be!!!
All the small touches like rose petals, champaign and the most delicious breakfasts you can imagine, with the beautiful surrondings in the early morning are what made this a devine place to spend a honeymoon. Thank you so very much Graham and Brandi for your warm hospitality and positive vibes!!!! We will soooooooo be coming back again and again!!!!!

Room Tip: If its for a couple then I would recommend, the peacock room its just perfect :)
