“I got to like the place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2013

First impression the place was just ok, but after 3 nights (mixed dorm) I really got to like it. Mainly because of the staff and the cleanliness. Only downers were the 1 power point in dorm rooms, and the showers not having a mirror. Kitchen and living area was great, nice and spacious and relaxing. Family owned place with really helpful staff.

I stayed here for 2 nights while completing the Tongariro Crossing. There was a large group of us (11) and we found the 2-bedroom apartments modern, clean and comfortable. Everyone enjoyed the breakfast, and the packed lunches were more than enough to keep us going all day. Andrea was very helpful, and advised us well for the big trek. The transfers were extremely convenient, and the shuttle was a welcome sight at the end of a long days walking. Highly recommend this place!

Excellent place to stay: comfortable rooms with good bathrooms with lots of nice touches. We liked the big common room and kitchen too. Andrea and Zeus are helpful, patient and knowledgeable with a professional hospitality edge lacking in bigger flasher places. The location is also within walking distance of the other venues in the village. I'd stay at Plateau Lodge again any time.

We stayed at the Plateau Lodge for a night when the weather forced us to cancel our plans to hike the Tongariro Alpine Crossing track. We had a private room, shared bathroom. Really nice kitchen and very friendly owner/operators. Got to chatting with the owner a bit and he said it's been a family run business since his father bought the property years ago. The son has been fixing it up and making improvements slowly as occupancy allows. There's a great common room with a wood fire place and a large TV. The only complaint is that the interior walls are a little thin, either that or the door is thin. You can easily hear people tramping up and down the hallways. Other than that it was great.

We've just finished our 2 night stay in a 2 bedroom apartment and we were impressed by the place. Plenty of space inside the apartment. We are a family of 5 (2x adults, 3x rug rats), and the bedding layout was perfect for us. The kitchen had everything we needed and although the bathroom is a little on the small side, it was all we needed. The whole place was clean and the staff really friendly and helpful. Will definitely stay there again!

We love it here! We have been coming to Plateau Lodge for the past 6 years and love it. Great atmosphere, lovely clean rooms which are warm and comfy. Andrea and Zeus are really neat hosts and we are always made to feel very welcome and nothing is too much trouble. They are within walking distance to everything, and the hot tub is devine after a big day on the slopes. We've only stayed a few nights this time and are leaving in the morning, but thank you! See you next time!

We booked at the last minute, so only got a room with shared faciliities however they were clean and of good standard. They also have a variety of other rooms with ensuites so cater to a variety of travelers.
In particular, Zues and Andrea the owners are extremely friendly and helpful and well suited to running this type of facility. Clearly the Trip Advisor ratings were accurate, and they could be even higher.
We will certainly stay here again when we head to the mountain.
Cheers Ian

Room Tip: If you traveling with a group , I'd go for the rooms with ensuite or avoid the kitchen. However...
