“excellent holiday”

I am afraid I just cannot believe some of the recent negative reviews of the Corfu Chandris. So I will deal with the one negative first.
I do agree the price of drinks both in the hotel and at the beach bar are very expensive, however, the solution is simple. In the evening go for a drink in one of the resorts many bars and tavernas, during the day time if you are on the beach pop on your sandals and walk across the road to Markos supermarket (2 x fanta, 2 x water, 2 x beer all for 6 euros).
The hotel is in my opinion is 4 star and the drink prices actually reflect four star hotel prices in Britain.
We stayed in room 212 overlooking the original swimming pool and a stunning sea view. The room was very clean and was well cleaned and tidied every day, shampoo and shower gel are provided if you want some more just ask the maid. We could also see most of the new lagoon pool from our room.
The hotel lobby and lounge are as in the brochure. There is no extra charge for air conditioning or safe deposit box in your room.
The dining room does get very busy especially between 9.15 and 10am for breakfast.
In the evening if you want to sit on the terrace for your meal it’s a bit hit and miss, we managed it twice in the fortnight but that was plenty to satisfy us.
The food is varied with a good choice, we decided to eat out on three occasions just to try something different.
The hotel grounds are lovely and well maintained, and yes, people do reserve sun beds around the pools but this is a sign of the times and not the fault of the hotel, every time we went to the beach we had our pick of many sun beds under the bamboo parasols. We prefer the beach anyway. Tell the beach staff you are with Thomsons and the cost is then only two euros per bed per day. Clean towels are provided FREE each day for beach and pool use just get a ticket from reception.
The Thomson reps are pleasant and helpful. Two trips we can recommend are Theos Boat Barbecue and the day trip to Albania.
Eriks Place is a great little bar taverna on the main road.
We had a fantastic holiday and I will be booking the same two weeks at the Chandris next year. Well done Thomsons on a truly platinum experience.

“So close to being great”

We stayed at the hotel for a wedding which was taking place at the Corfu Chandris, so the hotel had pretty much been chosen for us. Having checked their website and looking at the reviews here though I was sure it would be fine.
On arrival at The Corfu Chandris we were told that we had actually been booked into The Dassia Chandris and that most of the wedding party were staying there. This was a complete lie and although the short walk to the sister hotel right next door wasn't a problem, as soon as you walk in there it is a very evident that The Corfu Chandris is the better looking, better taken care of hotel - so beware if they try to make you move! And from our regular passings through reception, it's clear they move people between the two very regularly.
So I'm posting this review for both The Corfu Chandris and The Dassia Chandris because we used the room and breakfast at The Dassia and the pool and bar at The Corfu.
On first impressions in the room, we weren't overly keen on it. It was very tired (and dusty) and wasn't quite what we'd expected from the website images (should have known better though!) or the fact it was a 4* and a Thomson Platinum. However, by the end of the week we were very comfortable in what was a clean and satisfactory room for what we needed. The view however is a different story. Don't believe what everyone says about all the rooms having a sea view - I know for a fact they don't. But it is definitely worth paying a little extra if you have to just so you can enjoy the sea view. It is absolutely fantastic. Looking over to Albania and watching all the water sports taking place is the best way to end the day.
Breakfast was of a good standard and the restaurant was nice, however not having any other meals there makes it hard to comment further.
Due to it being peak season the beach was incredibly busy - possibly the busiest beach I've ever seen and it's tiny in width! Needless to say jostling for position wasn't appealing so we thought the pool would have been easier...
The new lagoon pool at The Corfu Chandris is absolutely lovely (had we gone when they hotels only had their standard pools I think we'd have been very disappointed). But the new pool is totally and utterly let down by the stupidity of a) not having enough loungers meaning people feel the desperate need to be there by 8am to wait for the loungers to be unlocked at 9am and then reserve them with towels for the rest of the day, b) not opening until 10am, and c) not having enough towels for everyone and the few that they do have only being available at around 10.30am (make sure you either take your own towels to use by the pool or be prepared to pay 4 or 5 Euros for some fairly thin towels at a local supermarket! The whole thing is a total debacle and really makes mornings quite stressful. We watched the hotel put a printed notice on all the reserved beds one morning which stated that any beds reserved the next day with towels would have the towels confiscated however the next day we sat and watched everyone do exactly the same thing and no towels were removed! It really let the hotel down and meant that neither the pool nor the beach were particularly relaxing experiences.
The only other thing worth a mention is the drinks prices and I know people have commented about it here before but! I could not believe it - we ordered 2 gin and tonics and it came to roughly £11. That is daylight robbery.
Dassia itself is lovely if you're not looking for anything too lively, although there are a couple of bars with music. There are lots of restaurants though and it's worth a walk along the road as far you can be bothered to make sure you don't miss any of them.
In all there was nothing overtly wrong with the hotel however, the rooms are fairly tired, the pool and beach set-up is ridiculous and drinks are well over-priced. Otherwise it's ok and we did despite all of that enjoy our stay. Would I go back? Probably not...

“Chandris not a 4 star!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2008

We arrived at the Corfu Chandris hotel execting a balcony and seaview room as booked through Thomsons Platinum Service. We were given room 21. This is situated underneath the swimming pool, down a dark alley & next to the generators. The room was damp, dark and the air con didnt work. The noise from the generators was constant & there was definately no sea view! We went straight back to reception to complain. The attitude of the staff was very rude and dismissive.(we were told that we were just tired!) We recieved no apology. After 2 hours arguing in reception we were found a room in another hotel but were told this could only be for 1 night. We met with our reps the following day and a better room was found. Although we agreed to this, the room (especially bathroom) was old and very dirty and definately not of 4* standard. We have found several bad reviews from holiday makers who have been put in rooms (19-23). The best advice we can give is to refuse to stay in them, stay for one night & apparently they wont move you! Apart from that the drinks were very expensive. The communal areas are very nice-the rooms definately need upgrading though. Good luck !

“An Excellent Stay”

I agree entirely with the detailed review by LYNETTEJOY posted here on 23rd July.
To add to this 'The Hendris' has a wonderful location opposite Albania that is similar to Lake Garda. It is a truly Four Star Hotel with excellent food, accommodation and service.
All rooms have an outstanding sea view.
It is nice to sit under an olive tree and watch the watersports or take a dip in the sea or the new lagoon pool to cool down.
Any drinkers can have a good time cheaply in the adjacent tavernas.
The Thomson Reps - Susan and Chris - are good too.
Dassia has enough shops, supermarkets and bars to suit holidaymakers.

“Get a Mortage for your drinks!!”

As Thomson haven't as yet published my review on their web site I append it here.

We stayed in the Chandris from 11th July for 1 week. We had asked for a twin room with sea view but on arrival were allocate d room 412 which turned out to be a double with a sofa bed. The room had a limited sea view, the bathroom was grubby with dirty grout between tiles and shower curtain mildewed on the bottom. Complained and was told all the rooms are set up the same and the beds can be split into twins although the mattress was a double? Given alternative room 402 to view but was worse than 412. Asked to see the Thomson rep after being told there were no other rooms available and was given another alternative to view 343. In comparison to the others was 100% better directly overlooking the pool and sea. Decor and cleanliness was no comparison to other two rooms. Hotel location and facilities were good if you don't want to do anything other than chill out by the pool or beach. Thomson excursions were far dearer than what you could get outside by shopping around or by booking in advance on line. Cost of drinks and food in the hotel complex even with a 19% Thomson reduction was extortionate. First day lunch in the Taverna of a large Salad Bowl, one pork kebab and a 1/2 bottle of wine cost over 25E. Wine cost 12.80e and you could buy the equivelant or better outside in any of the Tavernas for 3.50e !!!! Two G&T's 14.80 euros & half of draught beer 4e.
The weather was great but the holiday was marred by the extortionate cost of drinks. I always expect to pay more in a hotel for drinks and food than in the local Tavernas but to pay 4 times more merely drove the majority of guests away. When are they going to learn and realistically price their drinks to keep their guests in to spend money with them and not with their competition. For that reason alone I will be not be returning to the Chandris.
