I wanted to take my friend to a local, typical restaurant during her visit in Äkäslompolo in March 2012. The building and the surroundings look very typical especially during wintertime.Well, we had no reservation but after a while a friendly waiter told us there was a no-show-table for us,recommended some aperitive and told us about spanish (?!)gourmet weeks they had and some great wines of spanish wineyards to be offered. So far so good. A couple sitting next to us got their main course and after a while we noticed it was not what the lady expected: the main course (different) was to be delivered again. Why I tell this is because I had two glasses of the fabulous spanish red wine...but in the bill there was charged two glasses of KWW (South african) - I am not a sommelier and do not like blind tests anyway, so could not find any differnece. I always check my bills and maybe it took too long because a lady waiter came and asked a bit rude if there was something curious. She went to clear it up and I had enjoyed south african red wine during the spanish weeks in typical lappish restaurant. There was nothing they could, "the price is 10c different and you seemed to like it ". The reindeer filet was OK,but not very warm. Avec cafe I asked for Torres 10 yrs old (spanish :)), the answer was: "we don´t have it anymore.". There were about six different waiters trying to serve us,that is what I usually call a mess. The place was full,we propably were the only Finns. I find this place not value for money, pricy and maybe the staff was in a hurry, not very well organised that evening.
I warmly recommend Ylläksen Pihvikeisari in Ylläsjärvi, 15 kms from Äkäslompolo.
