Me and my partner stayed at this hotel from 10th March to 24th March and must say we had a fantastic holiday.
On arrival we were greeted by the lovely staff along with a glass of champagne each (a very nice touch). Check in was smooth, no problems, then our cases took to the room. The room was very spacious and well decorated. We even had bathrobes each! It has all the mod coms including hair dryer, tv (which didn't really show alot of English channels), CD player, safe etc. We were very pleased with our room.
I have to agree with all the reviews on this site, everything about this hotel is fantastic. We really couldn't fault it. The restaurants cater for all (we are quite fussy with our food but found something we liked every night). We even tried our first Japanese here, which was great fun, the chefs even get you up cooking some of the food. El Patio restuarant was stunning - there always seems to be a little Cuban band playing in the corner which just adds to the atmosphere. All the bars are great, and the service you receive from the bar staff is top notch, espcially if you tip! We made lots of friends with the staff here and by the end of holiday we were sad to say goodbye.
The beaches and pool are kept very clean. On a couple of occasions in our first week we had to hunt for beds round the pool (as it was Canada Spring break, so there were quite a lot of families there), but in our second week we had no problems. There a few little secluded beaches, make sure you find them, as they are stunning, at one point we had a whole beach to ourselves.
Make sure you venture out of the hotel and go and see the REAL Cuba, the people are very friendly, and like other people have said on this site, take some small gifts with you as they really appreciate those little things (things we often take for granted). I took soaps, shampoo, pens, rulers, hair clips, make up (next time I would probably take clothes to give out - many people who we spoke to wanted clothes). We went to the local town Guardalavaca on the hotel bikes, it took about half an hour to get there, may be less. There are a few hotels there and a small market, also a beach which is nice. Its worth going to see. We also did the Holguin trip which was also very good. We went on a steam train and saw the local villages and where the people live. We also went to a Cigar factory, visited a local monument (quite high up - the views of Holguin are amazing) then went into Holguin centre itself (opportunity for shopping and really experiencing some Cuban culture). We wanted to do the Catmaran trip to The Cayos but unfortunatly the trip got cancelled twice due to weather and problems with the boat. We were really disappointed but people we spoke to recommended this trip.
You won't be disappointed in booking this resort and this hotel - its fantastic - I'm sure we will return here in the not too distant future - its brillant!
We met some great friends while we were there, please don't hesitate to get in touch if you remember us (Lisa and Phil from Wigan).
