Me and my partner stayed at this hotel from 10th March to 24th March and must say we had a fantastic holiday.

On arrival we were greeted by the lovely staff along with a glass of champagne each (a very nice touch). Check in was smooth, no problems, then our cases took to the room. The room was very spacious and well decorated. We even had bathrobes each! It has all the mod coms including hair dryer, tv (which didn't really show alot of English channels), CD player, safe etc. We were very pleased with our room.

I have to agree with all the reviews on this site, everything about this hotel is fantastic. We really couldn't fault it. The restaurants cater for all (we are quite fussy with our food but found something we liked every night). We even tried our first Japanese here, which was great fun, the chefs even get you up cooking some of the food. El Patio restuarant was stunning - there always seems to be a little Cuban band playing in the corner which just adds to the atmosphere. All the bars are great, and the service you receive from the bar staff is top notch, espcially if you tip! We made lots of friends with the staff here and by the end of holiday we were sad to say goodbye.

The beaches and pool are kept very clean. On a couple of occasions in our first week we had to hunt for beds round the pool (as it was Canada Spring break, so there were quite a lot of families there), but in our second week we had no problems. There a few little secluded beaches, make sure you find them, as they are stunning, at one point we had a whole beach to ourselves.

Make sure you venture out of the hotel and go and see the REAL Cuba, the people are very friendly, and like other people have said on this site, take some small gifts with you as they really appreciate those little things (things we often take for granted). I took soaps, shampoo, pens, rulers, hair clips, make up (next time I would probably take clothes to give out - many people who we spoke to wanted clothes). We went to the local town Guardalavaca on the hotel bikes, it took about half an hour to get there, may be less. There are a few hotels there and a small market, also a beach which is nice. Its worth going to see. We also did the Holguin trip which was also very good. We went on a steam train and saw the local villages and where the people live. We also went to a Cigar factory, visited a local monument (quite high up - the views of Holguin are amazing) then went into Holguin centre itself (opportunity for shopping and really experiencing some Cuban culture). We wanted to do the Catmaran trip to The Cayos but unfortunatly the trip got cancelled twice due to weather and problems with the boat. We were really disappointed but people we spoke to recommended this trip.

You won't be disappointed in booking this resort and this hotel - its fantastic - I'm sure we will return here in the not too distant future - its brillant!

We met some great friends while we were there, please don't hesitate to get in touch if you remember us (Lisa and Phil from Wigan).

We stayed at the PRDO from March 10-17 of this year. It was our second time at this amazing resort and let me tell you – things only get better!!! Since last year, they now put bathrobes and umbrellas in the room, and a few other things should be noted as well:

Returning guests: if you are returning to this hotel for the 2nd (or 3rd, or 4th, or 11th…) time, make sure your agent lets them know ahead of time. You get treated extra nice, and get a couple of goodies like an invitation to a private “returning guests” dinner on the beach and free late check-out, which normally costs 30 pesos. I also have to say that the returning guests dinner was the most AMAZING experience I’ve ever had at a resort…tables set with full service and linen, 5-course meal that is even more awesome than what you normally get here, huge palm fronds and lights for ambiance, and gigantic steaks cooked on a BBQ right there! Those steaks were as good or better than you would get at a place like The Keg. You eat right beside the ocean in the moonlight; when we were there it was clear, and the star-gazing would almost make you fall off your chair!

I would also like to comment on the fact that this resort is going kids-free in October of this year. People on the forums are trying to start a letter-writing campaign to oppose this move, but I think it’s great! This is a quiet, relaxing place. There is no loud music, no “fun” animacion team around the pool, and no drinking contests or beach olympics. The only loud thing about this resort is children, and there were lots of them there during March Break! One, in particular, became known among several guests as ‘The Screamer,’ when it became apparent that blood-curdling shrieks are his favoured mode of communication: On the plane. On the beach. In the restaurants. Everywhere. Everyday. Even at night. “Avoid The Screamer” became a funny game for us, but not one you should have to play on vacation! Anyway, people choose this hotel specifically because it’s quiet, and they should not have put up with loud kids playing and splashing them in the pool. I think families should go to one of the several HUNDRED family-oriented resorts (some even employ poor souls who have to wear Sesame Street costumes all day), and let the Paradisus remain the quiet, tranquil haven of relaxation it was designed to be.

As always, the food is great. The Cuban restaurant gets a bad rap, so I’d like to give it a shout-out for making the BEST pork dish I had all week, and also for having the most relaxed service. It was the only ala carte where we were continually served wine and not made to feel as though we should clear out quickly. I also think the buffet is outstanding for all meals, and that the lobster is overrated. Don’t take 6 lobster tails like some piggy vacationers because you might be disappointed! The filet mignon cooked to order is a must-have, and the pasta bar with HUGE parmesan wheel is not to be missed.

Our room was totally musty when we moved in (think Muskoka cottage opening in spring), but apparently that’s because it was a slow week previous and nobody had been staying in it. After the first night, a bit of air moving through, and a good cleaning by the maids the next day, it was fine. We had brought a Glade Ultra room freshener with us, and we only used it the first night and morning. Yes, the beds are hard; if you’re super picky then pack a mattress cover, but I thought it was okay. They will need new mattresses and room refurbishment over the next year or two if they want to maintain their high ratings, but for now it’s fine.
All in all, an excellent holiday with fabulous service, outstanding food and beautiful surroundings! We will definitely be back, and are looking forward to a kid-free stay the next time we’re there!

We have just returned from Paradisus Rio de Oro, we stayed for 7 nights and we have no complaints. The resort was gorgeous and the food was outstanding. From the buffet to the A la Carte, it was the best that I ever had from all the other resorts that we stayed in. I have nothing but the best to say about the staff at the PRO, especially Tamara, the coordinator for the spa. She was very informative about the Cuban culture. We went there to get married and we were not disappointed. Our wedding coordinator, Odalys, was a great stress reliever. It was a stress-free wedding and we have no regrets. My flowers were really nice and I would recommend this resort to anybody that wants beautiful and simple wedding. The only complaint would be the photographer, he is not professional, we received 25 prints but no negatives and they were overexposed, I was happy to have brought my own camera and had my sister-in-law take the pictures and they turned out better than the photographer at the resort. If you want to party, this is not the place to go, it is a very quiet resort but has excellent evening shows and always as live trio bands throughout the day. This is real Cuban music!!! Pls make sure to get out and visit the real Cuba, it is worth it, the Cuban people are very friendly and trust worthy. If you want more info in regards to the wedding, pls email me at rdesjard@gmail.com

Not to sound repetitive as all other reviews but this resort is fantastic. Have stayed at many other resorts and by far this was the best. Our rooms were very spacious and yes there was a slight musty smell when we arrived but turn the air on and light a candle and the smell disappeared quickly. From day one the staff made you feel so welcomed they were always freindly and went out of there way to help you. The food was spectacular and the best I have ever had. If you are a seafood lover you will think you died and went to heaven, make sure you hit the buffet when they have lobster night. All of the alacartes we wonderful. We never had a problem getting lounge chairs at the beach even when we went in the afternoon.

The pool was sometimes harder but lots in the morning. The smorkling was great and you could swim out on your own. We went to the spa for the day and would highly recommend getting a treatment and spending at least one day there. The choices of alcohol was huge, but every bar made the same drink differently, and some had premium and some had locol, but you get to know who has what, Eddie at the pool bar makes the best mojitos and Juilio makes great pina colodas. Please take down stuff to give away. We went into town on a Saturday and walked along the beach and gave things to the locals and they are sooo appreciative. We took school supplies and candy but would take more clothes for the children next time, it is much needed. This is my sencond time to Cuba and loved it as much this time as Last and would return again in a split second. The entertainment staff are great and some shows were better than others but always prettty good.

Please feel free to email me if you have any more questions
