We booked with the Holiday Place on the internet, and they were excellent. Their Reps did over and above the call of duty, I have to say I was very impressed with them.

The Club Amigo - its a 3* and basically you get what you pay for. We had an Ocean View Villa, which was a basic 3* room. No fridge and although I said I would pay for one and kept asking it never materialised - so be it!

The food is exactly as you would expect from a 3* AI. Something for everyone, it just gets a bit samey. Theres nothing wrong with the food, you will always find something to fill you up. Good selection of puddings etc.

They only had 2 al a carte restaurants open when we visited, El Bennys and the Italian. Made a change from the buffet but the same if not a lower standard of food.

Swimming pools and beaches - excellent. Always plenty of sun beds around.

Staff - fantastic. Very friendly, helpful, good English.

All round, i found it clean enough, they are refurshing some of the resort at the moment so it isnt all open, but pound for pound - dollar for dollar - I thought for the price of this holiday it was very good value.

All I can say is dont go!!! , absolute dump , hell hole.

Food is the worst I have ever tasted .
, covered in flies+++++, recycled+++++, cold++++++, undecooked++++, overcooked++++, rude staff+++++, all mashed together , food that does not go together , ie carrots and green beans for breakfast , cold spaghetti for lunch and if you are lucky hot spaghettil for dinner. I am a vegi and forget it , all food was mixed with meat or fish , you will starve , good for weight loss but you will go hungry.
I spoke to rep Luis who was helpful and he allowed us free meals in Brisas hotel which was OK as I kicked off so much.
Luis did admit that people complained about food on a daily basis so I do not know why Thomas Cook are still sending people to here????.
Trips to Havana were great , and also swimming with dolphins , speed boats OK but Cuba Inside not so good.
Also sport fishing not good.
There is nothing around hotel to do , so teenagers bored +++++. internet cafe does not work , childrens club closed , crazy golf and tennis courts open but no raquets and clubs available??? so what's the point?????
The one restaurant open to escape crap food , oven broken!!!!???? so you are stuck with hotel food.
Snack bars OK , but there is only so much brown chips , pizza and spaghetti that you can eat in 2 weeks!!!
Beware of beach , we were offered cocaine and weed on a daly basis , beaches clean though.
Fish pond by reception also stank to high hell!!!!
If you like crap food , no nightlife , no entertainment and nothing around hotel then Club Amigo is for You!!! , if you like decent food , something going on at night then change your booking asap or you will have wasted your money.

I also fell down a hole by pool and nearly fractured my ankle which was not believed by rep!!!

We stayed a week at this resort from April 18-25 of this year. We liked Amigo so much, we plan to return next year. All of our experiences were positive ones( with the exception of losing our sandals from our patio, which was totally our own fault anyway).

Our Villa room was clean and spacious and close to everything. (Our package stated we would be given ROH room. I e-mailed the resort directly and asked if we could possibly get a villa room. They were very prompt in their reply, and as you can see, our request was graciously accomodated, no extra charge).

We had no problem whatsoever with the food, plenty of choice, always fresh, never saw any flies or rodents. Cannot comment on the a-la-cartes, didn't try any, but those people we talked to who did, had only good comments to offer.

The service was fast, friendly, always with a smile, and not just for tips, these people really seemed to enjoy their work. And not just the bartenders and waiters, the groundskeepers, security guards, laundry people, all of them were very pleasant.

Pools were very clean and well-maintained. Having worked for a pool company, I can appreciate how much work it takes to maintain even one pool, let alone the number of pools at this resort. It is a testament to their diligence that even in the extreme heat and humidity, I never once saw any sign of algae in any of the pools. Never a problem finding a lounger, either.

The beaches as well were always being cleaned and raked. Mind you, this job would be made much easier if slobs wouldn't leave those little plastic cups scattered every where(yay for bubbas!!). Always plenty of loungers to be found here, as well. (For those people who made comments about local people on the beach, get a grip! Would you complain about bluenosers on Queensland or Lawrencetown Beaches? I didn't think so! LOL!)

Can't comment on any excursions. Divided our time between pools and beaches, which is exactly what we wanted to do. And as far as entertainment, we heard it was very good, especially the violin player in the main lobby, but, being early risers and having a full day of sun, sand, beaches, pools, great food and cervesas, we were early to bed most nights.

All-in-all, a great vacation! Our second trip to Cuba, our first time to Club Amigo, and at CA we feel like we have found our home away from home. Can't wait to return next year!

Club Amigo Altantico - Guardalavaca

My wife and I stayed at the hotel Amigo Atlantico at Gurdalavaca from 18th June 08 are stay should have been fo a two week period but after one week on the 22nd June 08 we just had to get out and move to another hotel for the following reasons :-
we saw rats and mice in the dinning areas
a lot of the food in the buffets was not covered such as the fruit flys was all over it
the same with the cakes and ice cream not even in a chiller and again not covered fly all over everything
there was a large table of bread again no covering and flys was all over the bread
we did not have one main mean of which we could say we had enjoyed some of the things on the menu are as follows sprouts for breakfast Veals tongue and Veals Hearts - Pork looked good but when we trried it it was very tough and you could not chew it
Cuban wine was served with dinner it was a white wine looked more like a dark yellow and we could not drink it.
The 24 hours bar complete with food - we could not get a drink we liked i.e. Scotch when ever we asked for some the answere was sorry we don't have any. The food was either burgers and chips or Pitza we just could not eat any of this once the chips was served and looked very dark in colour and to me the oil in which they had been cooked was to say the least "OLD"
So for us after one week it had been the Hotel Atlantico from
HELL.
Sorry folks but if you are booked in at this hotel I recommend yougo back to were you booked and change hotels before you go
it costs me 330 passo's to move hotels.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the club amigo atlantico last march break. We both found the resort to be huge!! We are a young couple in our 20's and we were looking for a lot of activities and things to do... but this resort didnt seem to have it!!

GROUNDS

Because it was so large, it was amlost impssible to mett other guests unless they were staying in the same building as you. We had been to one of the neighbour resorts brisas guardalavaca the year before and found it to be much more homier and smaller and easier to mingle and meet people!

Rooms

We stayed in the bungalows which were actually pretty nice! We have a second floor room which a big bed and it was kept really clean by our housekeeper! The only downfall to the rooms was that the bungalows were right next to the stage and disco so you could hear drunk people and screaming until about 4am. We were up pretty late most nights, but with the hot sun all day and being burnt and drinking, after 12 we really just wanted to get some sleep.

The hotel part rooms did not look inviting at all. They were so tiny that they could only fit a double bed and a tv. We heard SO many complaints from other guests saying thier roofs were leaving, their beds were broken, their air conditions either didnt work or were leaking, and they had no balconies!! I felt very lucky we got upgraded to the bungalos!!

POOLS

There were so many pools that each day we decided to alternate and try them all! The pool by the snackbar was byfar the quiestest except when the little kids came to play in the raised part... The pools were always clean, my only complait is that it took the cleaning guy about 2 hours every morning until 11:30 to clean them and he would get mad when you tried to swim in it while he was cleaning them. One day we found a dead rat at the bottom and we tried to expain in english that there was a rat at the bottom but he only spoke spanish.

BEACH

The beach was really nice. We went snorkelling off the beach and it was very clear. The beach was nice and soft and white, just a little bit of sea weed every now and then. There were private parts to the beach and smaller sections but they were always packed. The sea weed reached out about 30 feet so you could only go up to your wasit and after that u could float out further if you didnt want to touch it!!

FOOD

The food was very repetative, but i expected that. The fresh fruit was good, so i stocked up on it through every meal. Definitly a lot of ham and pig. There was even a pig roast at lunch time by one of the pools! The second to last day my boyfriend got sick eating lobster... He was throwing up so much he couldnt leave the room for the last 2 days and ended up going to the hospital when we got up. It turned out to be seminela poisoning. The a la cartes were really good, i would recommend going to as many as possible! The pizza and fries at the snack bar was really good, so at lunch i was try and eat as much of those as possible.

Overall we had a good trip aside from getting sick. It is definitly a 3 star resort, i woudlnt give it any more than that! We spent the day by the pool and did a catamaran snorkelling tour which was the highligh of the trip! We rented bikes too and got to see guardalavaca. The market is a pretty neat place if you want to buy cuban things.... I wouldnt go back to the resort because i like trying new places, but it was for sure worth the 800 we spent!
