My boyfriend and I stayed at the club amigo atlantico last march break. We both found the resort to be huge!! We are a young couple in our 20's and we were looking for a lot of activities and things to do... but this resort didnt seem to have it!!

GROUNDS

Because it was so large, it was amlost impssible to mett other guests unless they were staying in the same building as you. We had been to one of the neighbour resorts brisas guardalavaca the year before and found it to be much more homier and smaller and easier to mingle and meet people!

Rooms

We stayed in the bungalows which were actually pretty nice! We have a second floor room which a big bed and it was kept really clean by our housekeeper! The only downfall to the rooms was that the bungalows were right next to the stage and disco so you could hear drunk people and screaming until about 4am. We were up pretty late most nights, but with the hot sun all day and being burnt and drinking, after 12 we really just wanted to get some sleep.

The hotel part rooms did not look inviting at all. They were so tiny that they could only fit a double bed and a tv. We heard SO many complaints from other guests saying thier roofs were leaving, their beds were broken, their air conditions either didnt work or were leaking, and they had no balconies!! I felt very lucky we got upgraded to the bungalos!!

POOLS

There were so many pools that each day we decided to alternate and try them all! The pool by the snackbar was byfar the quiestest except when the little kids came to play in the raised part... The pools were always clean, my only complait is that it took the cleaning guy about 2 hours every morning until 11:30 to clean them and he would get mad when you tried to swim in it while he was cleaning them. One day we found a dead rat at the bottom and we tried to expain in english that there was a rat at the bottom but he only spoke spanish.

BEACH

The beach was really nice. We went snorkelling off the beach and it was very clear. The beach was nice and soft and white, just a little bit of sea weed every now and then. There were private parts to the beach and smaller sections but they were always packed. The sea weed reached out about 30 feet so you could only go up to your wasit and after that u could float out further if you didnt want to touch it!!

FOOD

The food was very repetative, but i expected that. The fresh fruit was good, so i stocked up on it through every meal. Definitly a lot of ham and pig. There was even a pig roast at lunch time by one of the pools! The second to last day my boyfriend got sick eating lobster... He was throwing up so much he couldnt leave the room for the last 2 days and ended up going to the hospital when we got up. It turned out to be seminela poisoning. The a la cartes were really good, i would recommend going to as many as possible! The pizza and fries at the snack bar was really good, so at lunch i was try and eat as much of those as possible.

Overall we had a good trip aside from getting sick. It is definitly a 3 star resort, i woudlnt give it any more than that! We spent the day by the pool and did a catamaran snorkelling tour which was the highligh of the trip! We rented bikes too and got to see guardalavaca. The market is a pretty neat place if you want to buy cuban things.... I wouldnt go back to the resort because i like trying new places, but it was for sure worth the 800 we spent!

“Another amazing trip”

Club Amigo Altantico - Guardalavaca

Stayed at this hotel for the third time from 24th June till 8th July. Had another amazing stay. We did find that this time of year was very quiet tho and it was mostly just English people that were there.

We stayed in a 2nd floor villa with a great sea view. The room was very nice and clean and the maid was excellent. Our room was close to the 24hour bar and the buffet which was very handy.

We found that the buffet did have a smaller selection of food than on previous trips however there was still plenty to chose from and you could have something different everyday as long as your not too fussy. The food was very nice and nearly always hot. Service at the tables was also excellent and we got on really well with some of the staff in there.
There was one cheff in the 24hr bar who was quite rude it seemed a real chore for him if u asked for something. This may have been as he was working so long sometimes he was there all day and then worked in the a la carte restaurant in the evening but that is still no excuse.

The bars all gave very good service and we were served almost immediatly everytime. The Lobby/ piano bar was our favourate during the evening as Luis always kept us entertained and our drinks full. The staff in the bars were also alot of fun and always up for a laugh and having fun always made us smile.

The pools were very clean, the villa pool was good for relaxing and sunbathing and the pool bar if you wanted some more company or activiities.

Activities durin the day often did not take place but this was because not enought or no people turned up. We did participate in the activiities a few times and won some certificates. Bingo was also fun.
Evening entertainent started with the band playing then collecting certificates. Then there were various performances or shows to take part in which were always alot of fun.
There was also a disco but we didnt find it till the last week. We went to it a few times it was very nice well air conditioned and lots of space. Service here was also very good.

The beach was amazing as always very tidy and lots of loungers. The water activities were great and as it was so quiet always available.

We went on a few excursions that were very good value for money. The dolphin half day trip was 99cuc and included swim with dolphins a few drink, and dolphin and sealion shows. The Island paradise was 79cuc and included a couple of hourse on a catameran to a un inhabited island with free bar on board, snorkling and lunch on the island. The island was very beutiful with very clear waters and white sands. The lunch was also very good and included some antelope!! It was an extra 9cuc to take the safari around the island but was very good we saw antelope, buffaloe, large birds, crocodile, teripin and some horses not sure if they were wild. The great jeep adventure was 74cuc and included a ride on some jetskiis, atrip to gibira a very nice fishing village where we had lunch, a visit to some caves, a museum of animals on the island.
We also did the havana trip which was very interesting but not worht the amount of money it costs as almost everything we did there was free and there were not enough drinks included. We also did not stay in a 5* hotel as advertised.

“awfull food and service”

just stayed in this hotel for two weeks all inclusive for two costing 1,256. food awfull same most days not hot.not a lot of choice, no lids on food to keep hot, flies all over it. constantley running out of drinks lack of entertainment. 24 hour snack bar only opened when they felt like it. some times ignored by staff serving food. 3 buffet restaurants but only one ever open.
All guests were complaining and wished to come home after two days. would like to pass on this information to other holiday makers to save them much dissapointment which I felt with in the first few days of being there.

I have just returned from a two week stay at atlantico amigo and have to say i was surprised at what i found after reading some of the reviews posted on here.
We stayed at a villa which was spacious, clean and cool. It did not have a fridge but you can request this when booking as some other people we met had done. The staff were very friendly and the travel rep was always on hand, carlos leaves you his contact number and there is also a folder in the main lobby at the hotel which you can use if you need to find out any other information about the area. The food is not great but considering what the aveage cuban has to eat one should not complain, it is edible and the buffet is large enough to find a selection of foods that you can eat. There are a lot of flies in the buffet area and snack bar, simply take your food from underneath the pile at the buffet and not from the top. The staff rotate from each area of the hotel on a monthly basis which is why my experience of friendly staff that spoke pefect english might not match with other peoples experiences. The pools were find and the beaches are wonderful. Weekends all the locals come down with their families and you can stay at the beach bar till late in the night where it costs 2 pesos for a bottle of rum and you can salsa till your hearts content. I was never approached by any hagglers but i had spoke to guests that were. Visit La Roca on a saturday night which is 5 min walk from hotel to watch the Cubans letting their hair down and dancing.
Overall i enjoyed my stay you can visit other areas but these can be quiet expensive, the bus routes are not advisible but bikes are free to hire from the hotel and mopeds at around 30 pesos for a few hours. This is a good way of getting around the local area. Locals might invite you to their homes do not be alarmed this is common practice but i would advise you only do this with the horse and carriage drivers, or locals that are known by hotel staff. We did this and it was a safe and gave us a little insight into how cubans live.
Prostitution is about i noticed it but it was not overtly obvious, i might add you also see older women with younger men, in my two weeks i noticed about 4 such instances and it was not flaunted.
For three stars all inclusive you should not really expect any more than what the hotel has to offer you get what you pay for, and make the rest of the holiday for yourself. I would go back.

“go to your travel agent now and change your hotel!!!!!!!”

Club Amigo Altantico - Guardalavaca

just return from club amigo and would stronly recommend you go to your travel agent and move to another hotel!
I have been to cuba before and thought i know what to expect!
the main part of the hotel needed bulldozing it went beyond tired and old lots of smashed windows with curtains bellowing out if you do decide to take a chance and stay here (i read all the reviews and thought well it cant be that bad and you cant please everyone) upgrade to the villa section of the hotel. (you automaticaly get these if you booked with thomas cook), while these are still shabby they are clean and functional.
the food in the main buffet is discusting!!! cold under cooked and infested with flies and a very very limited choice prepare to go hungrey. snack bar marginally bettter but you will get tired of eating burgers and chips. the a la carte opposite the buffet restaurant stank and i,ve never seen so many flies in one place food stone cold we left rather than risk our health eating here! after this expieriance we had, had it with the food here and would go in to town and eat at the local itatain place. the food here was lovely and always crowded with amigo guests.
the next main problem was the amount of very old canadian men who stayed athe hotel with cuban prostitutes. this was common placed and appeared to be bordering on peadaphillia, girls on very good terms with local staff. this is not a good enviroment for people with young familys the problem was rife.
the staff not very freindly.
you had to buy bottled water no fridges in rooms.
take plenty of money everyone expects tips for there diabolical service.
be very careful when booking in cuba the cubanacan(goverment run hotels) should be avioded at all costs!
