“Late review”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 1, 2013

I went with friends in October 2012. This is an excellent hotel. They have it all. The only downside for me was that the buffet restaurants had no air con and this made eating in the evening unpleasant because of the humidity. If that doesn't bother you then please go to this almost perfect hotel.

My husband and I just returned from speding 1 week here (Feb 16th-23rd, 2013), and what a week it was!! The food was great - with 9 restaurants in total, there is something for everyone. 2 buffets for breakfast/lunch/dinner and 7 a la cartes. The rooms were great - the bathroom was clean and we had water pressure in the shower. For those that had issues with their room, ie patio door not working, did you call to get it fixed? We had friends who called and had theirs fixed in 10 minutes. The bartenders were amazing, especially Michel at the Mojito bar. Many staff knew us by name, and we found the service above and beyond. We will definitely be going back and will recommend to friends. The pool and beach were also great, only minor complaint is the reserving of beach lounge chairs by people who choose to not show up until 11am or noon. Reserving by tying a bandana on a chair is just wrong, at least leave a towel or other items to make it look like you are really going to use it.

Room Tip: We were in block 19. Not an ocean view, but very close to the pool and lobby.

We went to Playa Playa Pesquero from February 15th to 22nd. After reading all the great reviews about the hotel... we kind of had our expectation quite high!! And we were happily surprised by this place.
The food
The lunch buffet... there is a BBQ station where the very nice lady grilled shrimps, calamary, veal, fish and veggies.. The line up to get this food may be crazy long some days.... but it was worth it! All the A la carte restaurant were excellent.. specially the Romantico! You can get langouste pretty much in each restaurant A la carte.
Breakfast is where they could improve a little bit.. They did have a great omelet-egg station... but its the side dish that were a bit missing... But nothing to make me talk more about it!

The Beach
AAHH!!!! the beach!!! one word; AWESOME! and great snorkeling too. Not much coral to see... but bring some bread or a banana in the water and tons of fish will come around!
Wake up very early if you want a palapas..

The Room.
When I will go back, I will definitely put a request not to be staying in building 44. I have the feeling this builing was the "last builing of the resort" and stuff were missing in it.. We had 2 days of rain.. and everybody was walking with umbrellas on the resort.. but we didnt have any.. and after asking a few times to a couple different people, we never got one. We also didnt have bathrobe. And we didnt have water to shower one day. But again, this didnt ruin our vacation...
The room was clean, very comfortable bed.

The Staff
AMAZING!! All the bar staff, restaurant staff have been incredible.. They are friendly with everybody!! Michel at the Mojito bar is awesome... he makes the BEST mojito ever and always with a smile... Karel and Pepe at the lobby bar always made us feel special. Animation team; almost inexistant! We saw them playing bingo in the lobby and doing pool game at the end of day. But nothing on the beach.. I believe i saw the first entertainment team member on my third day at the resort.

Atmosphere
During the day, there is a lot going on with all the special restaurants (chicken, fish, pizza, beer Garden, Mojito Bar..). There is always a great place to be to have fun! But at night time, after the show... that's when the resort become REALLY quite! The lobby is opne 24h.. which is great,... but after 11:30pm-midnight, it is super quite. No music at the lobby, and the disco is not a place where you want to be... it stinks and its cold in there...
It is more of a family resort then a fun-party resort. We are in our 30's and were a bit bored at night time.. But then again.. didnt ruined our vacation.. Next time we'll bring friends with us!

Lots of people go back to Playa Pesquero and I totally agree!! I would too! They take care of the guests, the hotel is well maintain an its a great place to relax for a week.

If you are hesitating of going there.. GO AHEAD.. you will not be disapointed!

Room Tip: We were in building 44 and i would try to avoid it...

After reading the reviews on PP we decided we would try this resort. This is our third visit to Cuba.
The weather was great the beach beautiful, we always found chairs and a nice spot. The pool is large and very clean with a great pool bar. The lounge chairs are always in need of repair and somedays hard to find.
The rooms are large and kept clean, the beds are comfortable. The lock on the patio doors is not working properly takes anywhere from 5 - 10 minutes to lock. The bathroom is clean, the shower is horrible the shower head falls of the holder and sprays erradically, there is a lack of water pressure and hot water. One night we were told there would no hot water for at least two hours.
The food at the Romantico a la carte was great as was the service. The Crioillo and Latino the salad lady makes a great salad and always smiling. Otherwise the food was HORRIBLE at supper. The staff at the Criollo were at times rude but also appeared overworked and understaffed for a full resort.
The Air Canada rep Mario appears friendly but was unreliable and doesn't follow through with requests. There are many positives about PP but the negatives out weigh the positives. Would definitly not recommed this resort Will not be returning to PP.

Room Tip: Book else where

Stayed begining of Feb for two weeks, absolutely brilliant holiday from start to finish. Our room was spacious, clean and on the ground floor with not a creepy crawlie in sight! Maids did a lovely job each day. The buffet restaurants are good at breakfast loads to choose from but a bit hit and miss at night time although the stir fry chef was brilliant. We ate at the Caribeno the first night and it was terrible even the wine was bad! Every other ala carte restaurant was fab especially the Romantico! My boyfriend and I did every excursion we could possibly afford, favorites being the dolphins of course and the natural farmer was great,Osmide was the best tour and even took us private horse back riding the next day!

Highly reccommend this hotel the staff are what make it so special and unique.

Stayed for 2 weeks with my husband and 1 year old son. We had a fantastic time and didn't want to go home. The majority of the staff were very welcoming and friendly, the hotel complex was always clean and well maintained.
We were in block 15 which was quite near everything. It is a very large complex and will involve alot of walking, unless you can get on a golf buggy. Our room was very spacious and kept very tidy, we had a lovely maid called Gladis and she couldn't do enough for us, even before we gave her a tip.
The swimming pool is huge, we always found some where to sit, although it was more difficult to find space at the beach. There are lots of trees that you can find shade under if needed.
There were lots of activities to do and would recommend getting a snorkel as there is a coral reef on the beach. if you don't like to idea of snorkeling, you can actually walk up to the edge of the coral and see some of the pretty fish.
The food options were great, lots of choice and places to eat and drink. The food on the buffet was repetitive, but to be expected with all inclusive. They catered for all guests, so expect some strange food options. You can eat at the Beer garden 24 hours a day, which was handy for when you had booked a trip that left before the usual buffet opened. You could eat at the most of the restaurants for lunch and could get snacks all day long. We ate at all of the a `la carte restaurants, which had a good choice of food and was well presented. The buffet didn't open until 6.30pm.
They have shops on site where you can buy toiletries, souvenirs, food and drink and beach toys for children (which were limited). We thought we would be able to get a bucket and spade, but they didn't sell them. So see if you can get one to fit in your suit case for the kids. We also ran out of nappies, we were able to get these for about 5 pesos (pack of 14), but they did leak and rip easily, so make sure you have plenty to get you by.
We would recommend the horse and cart, which you can get from the hotel car park. We were taken to a family home, where they had a mini zoo, with different animals. We were also shown around their home, which you get a real glimpse at how they live, yet they are so happy. A real eye opener!
The only thing we would change about this hotel is that the children’s' entertainment is quite late, it started at 8.30pm, after speaking to other families, we all felt that the buffet should be open earlier, so that the children’s club could be started earlier, as there was never many children there, especially for the size of the hotel.
Overall a fab holiday and we would defiantly return. I think people who have complained about how the food is cooked and the staff, need to appreciate that this is a very different country, therefore they live and cook things differently.
