“Very good although not 5*”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

Have just returned from 2 weeks at this resort with my partner.
I have nothing but good things to say really, lovely resort and very friendly staff.
The romantica restaurant and the Caribbean one were our favourites , also the club Cubana one which had a supplement was well well paying for. I had an enormous plate full of gorgeous steak and lamb for the money.
There was some hurricane damage when we arrived however the staff were working non stop to sort and so didn't really effect us much.
Would defiantly recommend the paradise island trip on catermaran. Was amazing and we stopped at fab snorkelling spot.
Also the swimming with dolphins was great and very reasonably priced.
My only gripe is that I wouldn't say it was 5* if I was to compare it to other 5*'s I have stayed in in Mexico etc. however I is a lovely resort with nice food and nice people.

Having read other reports from people who stayed at the same time as my party its almost as if they stayed at a better place than we did. It was unfortunate that we stayed just after hurricane sandy and the resort in places resembled a landfill site. The choice in the buffet restaurants was limited and the much vaunted Romantica a la carte restaurant was very disappointing. The worst part of the holiday were the rude French Canadians who monopolised the pool area and the lobby bar at night. They were loud obnoxious and invariably drunk. It would have been nice to have a dress code for the evening in the lobby rather than vests shorts beer bellies and tattoos. All the toilets in the communal areas overflowed and the sanitation of the resort left a lot to be desired. This hotel is nowhere near a five star resort and if it cleaned its act up could possibly be awarded three stars

My wife is currently at Playa Pesquiro with her friend from North Bay, her previous scheduled trip was cancelled when hurricane Sandy went over Cuba by the Airline in Toronto. She arrived last Saturday after a dozen or more visits to this resort where we are always treated like family by staff and our Cuban friends in Santa Lucia. I did not go this time as I normally only visit ths resort once a year while she goes twice. I received an email from her this morning I like to share with you, she arrived at the hotel at 8.00 pm Saturday and where welcomed as always by one of the PR representatives, they are having a great time at the beach and the weather is so beautiful, sunny hot and warm and so much to tell me. They had a late birthday celebration in the Romantico restaurant which was fantastic as always, (it is her favourite). I am sure she will tell you more when she returns but I wanted to share this with you.

Room Tip: Ask if you like for room on the second floor facing the Ocean you will then get a nice sunset view.

Definately would not rate this hotel as a 5 star as Thomsons says in the brochure, more like a 2 star, dissapointed with the superior room, very basic. The complex was much bigger than i expected, although has lots of restaurants to choose from, lots of different foods to choose from in the main restaurant in the evening. Entertainment not too bad if you like to watch shows. Bar staff are freindly and like busy bees, beach not too bad, could do with a few bins spread about as people were leaving their empty plastic cups which they got from the beach bar,and cigarette butts. Lots of canadians holiday there too, some of which are very loud and like to hear there own voices. oh and just a word of advice, for goodness sake don't for get the paperwork at the end of you holiday for the tacky green beach towels they give you for the beach during your stay, it causes problems at reception when you check out, the staff think you have nicked them!!

Room Tip: we were in block 5609, nice as away from the noise of the pool area, but in walking distance of the...

Really nice. Very efficiently run. Staff are very helpful. Beach is beautiful. Food in the restaurants isn't great but the themed style of them is entertaining enough to easily make up for that- and there is lots of choice. Clean comfortable large rooms. Well designed pool area and bar. Really nice atmosphere. Only small negative was that when my boyfriend wasn't around some of the male staff would get too friendly and make me feel a bit awkward/ uncomfortable. Apart from that perfect hotel. Have already recommended the holiday to friends.

Firstly I would like to start by saying, Hi Kat hope you and your husband had a wonderful honey moon at your Cuban hotel, hope your experience was as fab as ours, the people in Cuba are very poor but amazingly happy and friendly, probably the most gracious, friendly and genuine people I’ve ever had the privilege to meet, you will be quite taken back, In some cases shocked at the poverty you will see on route to your holiday hotel, some sites will make you chuckle in dis belief and some will make you feel sad, anyone with an heart will feel like helping in any way possible, the trip certainly humbled me, we are so lucky in this country it will make you feel that too, that aside I have to say WOW we arrived at our hotel complex, the Playa Pesquero Is without doubt a very popular resort for the British, first impressions where fantastic, we checked in got our all inclusive rist band and immediately started to use it, drinks and snacks on arrival whilst we waited for the bell boy to take us to our accommodation, we were quickly collected and taken to our room, the rooms are spacious very clean, the beds are massive and surprisingly really comfortable, the maid will leave you a very nice surprise every morning, she will make a different animal out of towels and leave it on your bed to see when you return, lovely touch we enjoyed it very much, we personally always like to be very respectful and leave the room as tidy as possible, after the first day the maid stopped us and actually thanked us for making the bed, we thought that was so nice she was so happy we had done it, we thought we had given her the world, we found every member of staff so helpful it was incredible, they just couldn’t do enough and not in a cheesy way they actually loved to help, they rely allot on tips to help them and their families, don’t worry about it too much because there is never any pressure to tip, to be honest you don’t have to tip at all, I tended to tip a Paso every couple of times a waiter or waitress delivered drink’s etc, this converts to about 70p sterling, in some cases if they really went out of there way we gave them 3 Paso’s, my god when that happened they were so bloody grateful it was a bit hard to take in, to think £2 could make somebody so happy, then again they only get between £25 and £40 a month in wages, you could eat and drink 24 hours a day no restrictions at all, the food was amazing something for everyone the buffet was fantastic, spoilt for choice there was simply everything, steak’s, fresh fish, chicken, omelettes, eggs, stir fries and pasta all cooked to personal spec and cooked in front of you, unbelievable quality and cleanliness, there was lot’s to do day and night on site, you really don’t have to venture out of the hotel grounds at all, catamaran sail boats, peddle boats, snorkelling etc are included and everything is provided, the beach is amazing and private, only the people at the hotel can use it, the hotel swimming pool is probably the biggest and best I’ve seen in an hotel, its massive and so clean, there is a theatre and night club onsite, there are many bars and restaurant’s available to use, by the pool by day there is hotdog’s, burgers and chips served fresh all day if you prefer snacking, fresh made pizza’s on the beach, if you prefer there is a pool side restaurant you can get full meals, steaks, fresh fish, salads, cold meats, veg, pasta, fresh fruit etc, the same applies for the beach also, you can book al a carte 4 times a week at whatever restaurant you prefer, this is included in the all inclusive no extra charge, if you prefer this every night, then the additional nights will be charged, In our opinion the buffet was far better anyway there was every type of food from all around the world served, it was all outstanding quality it’s easy to see why this hotel is very popular with the brits etc, value for money and choice is just outstanding, this hotel caters for couples wanting to relax in peace and quiet if that’s the choice, it caters for families with babies up, there is so much for them to do, it’s fantastic for wedding’s etc we saw 4 wedding’s during our stay alone, also good for group’s of friends and family without kid’s, everything here is so well laid out in a massive site, so big there is golf carts and trains whizzing around taking people to different parts of the complex, or you can walk through the lovely ground’s, It’s hard to believe this hotel was hard hit by hurricane sandy, the staff have worked wonders getting this back to some kind of normality, seriously you could still see where the hurricane had damaged things, this just did not affect our holiday the staff just made your holiday so special, new trees, plants and shrubs etc had been planted, all debris removed and most repairs completed, truly our congratulations to the staff and hotel for their hard work, they just have to be commended there fantastic, only one negative the French Canadian’s as a people will probably be very nice, however during our stay here 90% of them staying there where very rude, obnoxious, ill mannered and in some cases nasty to the staff and guest’s if you wasn’t French Canadian, we aren’t judging the French Canadian’s we did actually meet some that where really lovely, even they was embarrassed at the overall behaviour from most of them there, they mentioned how uncomfortable they felt by the other’s staying there, actually they said no wonder the staff didn’t seem to accept them like they did other Canadians, American’s and British staying there, we did witness a couple of disturbances involving the French Canadian’s and other nationalities, all of which I have to say caused by the French Canadian’s, the staff again have to be commended, they were so professional in handling it, they too took quite allot of abuse from them, they just kept smiling and trying to help them, In my opinion I feel for the lovely one’s we met and the staff, that aside there was absolutely nothing else to say, so summing up we will be returning next year and we would recommend this hotel and destination to anyone, totally fantastic can’t wait to see all of the lovely people we met next year, the biggest thank you to the staff and hotel for making our stay so special.

Room Tip: Pick Block 45, 64, 63 close to hotel lobby, most food places pool and beach, its also quiet when sle...
