Stayed September 2013 and have to say it was one of my best holidays. After a problem with the toilet not flushing we were moved to another room straight away. We can say the staff were very efficient and the meals were very good. Would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a relaxing holiday with excellent food.

We were there right after the hurricane in 08 and I see that PLC has done a lot of repairs and replacements since that time. It was nice to see all this work. I think that is why the buildings are a little behind in upkeep. But as we were there I saw work taking place on them. I was happy to see so much greenery back at the beaches and the conservation area. My bed was far better then the last time we stayed, that is a huge bonus. Lots of variety with foods, and your imagination is the only thing stopping you with making your own plate to your taste. The buffet food is not as hot as most would like it, but the quality was there for most items. We certainly never went hungry--The weather was fantastic this stay--another bonus. As always the staff are wonderful to all-- It was such a good surprise to be acknowledged as returning guests.
I made sure that everyone in our group brought their water shoes so we could use the beaches anywhere and also do some walking tours up and down it.

Our holiday was split in two 4 Days in Havana and the rest PCV The first 4 days in Havana were great as there is a Buzz about the city a horse and cart ride around with a good English speaking guide is fantastic as he stops at all the places of interest, national hotel a must for the history. the revolution museum a must visit under restoration. We also went to Venalles were the cigars are made fantastic day trip.
Now on to PCV well all inclusive is not something I have enjoyed in the past and I am afraid PCV was no different food was cold at every meal unless you waited in line for the fresh cooked products unfortunately rude Canadians mostly the French ones who were all about 20 stone plus were in front of you and I gave up more times than not birds flew through the restaurant day and night tap water was chilled and served as bottled water.
Staff were great and I dont know how they have not lashed out at some of there more obnoxious greedy quests again mostly Canadian.
the staff do not want your toothpaste etc etc as I have read on these sites so often sure they will smile when you give it Pesos is what they want and for good service I would give regularly especially the gardeners who do not get much for there efforts.
Overall this was a good holiday with great people to meet and places to see but there is no such thing as 5 star or 4 star in Cuba there is a journey for them on this front and it will come through training and time.

-28 c when we left Toronto, +24 less than 4 hours later, transfer from airport was seamless, even had beer on the bus. Reception checked us in quickly, with a greeting drink as we waited. Rooms are tired, but spotless, only complaint about the room, the fridge was noisy, so we unplugged it to sleep. Staff were all pleasant &very helpful.
Buffet food was above standards I have had before in Cuba,(7 trips to the island), the a la carte restaurant's were all good, the Japanese was very good & fun. The steak house was worth a visit, at 10 pesos for Steak & lobster.
Beach was busy, snorkeling was good.
The beer corner bar is a nice place to have a quiet beer & meet other travellers.
We will return to Playa costa verde

We liked that everything was easy to walk to.
The rooms were large and very clean.
The pool is large and there were always chairs available.
The beach is beautiful and great for a walk.
The food was quite good.
The staff are very friendly and provide great service.
The beer corner was a favourite spot later in the afternoon.
We are looking forward to returning with our Mom who is a young 82!

Room Tip: Building 55 was very centrally located to everything and it was quiet at night.

We had an excellent vacation at Playa Costa Verde (PCV). This was our 14th visit to Cuba since 1991 and our 4th trip to PCV. After travelling to other areas in Cuba, we have settled on Holguin and PCV.

We have found Holguin to be the best province for food. However, if you expect great food and beef, Cuba is not for you. We keep coming because PCV has what we want plus it has great people and excellent service. Cubans always seem to be happy even though most are very poor by our standards. They want us to be happy because tourism is one of their biggest economies. The resort is going through some changes as they have just got a new General Manager. We found her quite open to discussion.

Tips are not required. They do try to serve customers in order regardless. Many that do tip give a peso. However, if you wish to see their faces light up and warm your heart tip with a tube of tooth paste, Ibuprofen, disposable razors, stuffed animals or anything for children. You can buy many of these thing in Canadian or USA dollar stores for less than what a peso cost you. It is worth a lot more to them. Some of which they cannot buy themselves.

This all said, the resort is well kept. But it does need some upgrading to the rooms and some of the facilities. We found the resort spotless and our maid was excellent.

The beach is adequate and they have a good supply of non motorized equipment. The ocean has some rocks, but ask the staff. They can tell you the best places to enter the ocean. Snorkelling is great and they have a dive shop about a 5 minute walk along the beach.

They have a 'kids' club with a poll about 1 foot deep. In the main pools area, they have a deeper area with a swim up bar. Then there is a smaller shallower pool for volleyball and attached is another round pool about 1 foot deep for children. Jesus and Marlenis are great bartenders at the swim up bar. If you have any magical tricks for around the pool give them to Jesus. But both love a good joke. Around the pool they have built additional structures to provide tourists with shade since our trip last January.

The a la carte restaurants are great. We certainly recommend that you take them all in. You will love the ambiance\show in the Japanese. Many find the buffet food repetitive. For supper they have 4 food stations that will make you what you want fresh. These 4 stations are always doing the same thing. There is a fifth station. They do something different each night. If that is not enough you can always choose the prepared food. Lunch is similar in the main buffet, but you can eat in the snack bar, beach grill or the Cuban restaurant for a variety. We alternated between the Cuban, snack bar and buffet. Breakfast is served in the buffet or you can get it earlier in the snack bar.

We have made many great Canadian and Cuban friends at PCV.

Room Tip: Corner suites are best. If you want a quieter room stay away from the show area and make sure it do...

We love this resort and have been here 4 times. The staff are excellent, very caring and hardworking people. Eduardo we first met in the cigar lounge. He now manages the Lounge bar (the main bar where we go for our morning late, cappuccino, etc. and in the evening for a night cap). He is a wonderful person and eager to please and will take time to socialize with you when he can; Ricardo is the humorous, social butterfly who takes excellent care of you around the pool, filling up your drinks while selling cigars; Jesus at the swim-up bar is very friendly and has a subtle sense of humor with a great smile; Marleena is a wonderful, caring lady who takes good care of you whether you are at the buffet or at the bars.
FOOD - The a la carte restaurants are good too. Our favorite is the Japanese and Cuba ones. The Italian one is OK. The buffet is good too with different food stalls to cook individualized items such as omelettes, pasta, pizza etc . They have lots of variety of food for the different cultures that come to the resort. The desserts are not the best, but they look good. There are is always fresh fruit, bread, salad, cheeses at every meal. The snack bar is great by the pool for salad, fish, fries, burgers and pizza. There is a ice cream bar. Remember - you are in CUBA please don't think the food is going to be the same as in your country. Also, their food also tastes different because our food has chemicals in it. I never order the steak because its just as good as home.
The rooms, lounge, public areas are very clean. The beach is about a five minute walk over a bridge, but is beautiful. No large waves or undertow as it is on an inlet, so you are not right on the ocean but you can see it. The nightly entertainment is excellent also. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained.
This is our home away from home.

Room Tip: Poolside rooms are not good choice if you want to go for a nap in the afternoon as the activity anno...
