Just got back from PCV

First time in Cuba and would definitely go back to this hotel. We were worried about some of the reviews we had read now think they must be talking about a different hotel.
Rooms spotlessly clean fluffy white towels daily, beds changed every 2 days, always a full bottle of water left in the room even if you still had'nt opened the one from day before.
Beer corner with dixie fantastic canned and bottled beers nuts and olives and she even got us vodka!
Cigar lounge the best coffee and brandy in resort! As soon as we walked through the door our drinks would be ready fantastic service.

All speciality restaurants worth going to especially japanese and cuban which is also open for lunch, without reservations handy for a relaxing lunch whilst cooling off from the beach.
The buffet restaurant had everything you could want, they even had feta and stilton type cheeses! Lots of cooking stations, yes flies were about but all fish was taken from a chiller cabinet and cooked in front of you the only fish on display were for people to point to say which variety of fish they wanted cooked.

Beach very clean, yes a bit of coral but we took swim shoes and no problem at all in fact i burnt my foot and for 3 days had to go in the sea without them and managed fine.
All in all a perfect holiday with friendly staff and somewhere we would definitely go back to

Room Tip: Block by beer corner handy for pool retaurant and plesant walk to beach

Just got back from the PCV late Wednesday night (April 24th) after an amazing week. After reading the reviews about this resort we went with an open mind not knowing what to expect. After being there for only a few hours we realized just how beautiful and amazing this resort was. Sure there are a few little things to complain about but why let something so little spoil your vacation!!

The buffet is just like every other resort you'd find in Cuba, a lot of choices but same day after day for the most part. For breakfast you can have omelets, eggs made the way you want, fresh juices (freshly squeezed orange juice was delicious) and you had plenty of variety of breads and other breakfast food to choose from. For lunch and supper you have the freshly cooked stations that are fish, meat, or pasta/pizza and you have your buffet style food set up to choose what you want. For me the meat station was great because I mostly ate beef and chicken for the week, with a little pasta. The 24hr snack bar is great because they have pizzas, fries, burgers, hot dogs, calamari ect. served around the clock. So if you get tired of the buffet or a la carts you can just head to the snack bar and get a quick fill. We went to 2 a la carts while there the Japanese and Cuban. The Japanese was amazing and had great tasting food. Our cook started off by mixing together everything for the rice, then went on to preparing the chicken, beef, shrimp and fish. The food was extremely tasty and the rice was delicious. While cooking the food the cook does different tricks with the food and then asks everyone who want to join in to do so and have pictures taken while doing so. I would suggest going to this at least 1 time!!! The Cuban a la cart was ok. We had pork which tasted good but that was really the only thing good about the meal.

The pool and the grounds of this resort are truly beautiful!! The gardeners can be seen from 5am right through till 5pm working non stop to keep the flowers, trees ect. looking the way they do. I would often bring 2 or 3 beer to them as they do not get anything to drink unless on break. it is much appreciated by them!)

The beach is fairly big and is beautiful. Sure there are a few rocks here and there and not all of the beach is sandy like you see in Jamaica and other areas, but it is still very nice. The water is a nice light blue/green color and looks beautiful. You have to go though about 10-20 feet of rough rocks/seaweed to get to the clear water but once your past that its amazing. There are thousands of fish that will swim around you without bringing any food to feed them (bring a banana or bread with you if you want more fish to come).

We went on the catamaran / dolphin tour and the jeep adventure. The dolphin tour is worth every penny and more!! First we went on a catamaran (all drinks included on board) and snorkeled at a coral reef for roughly 45min, then went to the dolphin area and had lunch followed by swimming with the dolphins. If you want to do tricks with the dolphins it is 10$ each trick or when you buy 2 you get the 3rd free (very worth it). after you have swam with the dolphins you get back on the catamaran and head back to the Marina where your bus will be waiting to take you back to the resort. The jeep tour was also a lot of fun. We took the jeeps and went through the country side and then to a farm where we went horse back riding. Following horseback riding we went for lunch on top of a beautiful hill overlooking the bay where Christopher Columbus first landed in Cuba. After lunch we went to the monuments where Columbus landed and later seen a reenactment of how the natives lived. This was a very long day but well worth seeing.

The rooms are dated like others have said but in no way at all bad. The water in the shower is really hot and tends to get hotter as you shower so watch out not to burn yourself!! We had room 1526 which was in the first building on your left as you enter the resort by the pool. I requested for a 2nd floor room and received it (not one bug found in room). Room was right next to the pool, buffet and lobby and only a very short distance from the beach.

The only negative thing I have to say about this resort is the nightly entertainment. Some of the shows are great, but there is a lot of just Cuban music played which gets boring to hear and watch quick. The water ballet was beautiful and I would recommend seeing that!!

Over all I would return to this resort in a heartbeat!! its beautiful and has great friendly staff trying to make your vacation even better then it already is.

Hope this helps anyone debating to go here or not!! GO haha :)

Room Tip: ask for a 2nd floor room.

This was our second time in Cuba but first time at this hotel. Arrived and room was ready, clean, could do with a bit of updating as per previous comments but not a problem. Maid service excellent, majority of staff very helpful and pleasant. Don't take beach towels as they are provided. Both flat pin and round pin plugs work. We took large travel mugs which kept drinks cold, very hot so take plenty of sunscreen. As per previous comments saying you can't buy it there you can. And pharmacy will sell sanitary items but expensive and shop sells nappies. Food was ok in buffet especially fresh cooked items for you. You won't go hungry. Kids club was good and kept kids entertained which they enjoyed and were brilliant with them. We met lovely couple with issey who I forgot to get number so if you read this get me on Facebook, look for lynne Reeve!!!! Harrison missing little issey already!!!. All in all good holiday lovely weather and places to visit or just laze and sit in the sun.

Room Tip: We stayed in room 2424,2422, 2411 good location

This is purely in response to the review of Melachi-ibn-Amillar. I would not have bothered otherwise.

Firstly if you know the name of the single entertainer that you liked then you are a single person on holiday that would prefer Mexico or Cancun. The A La Cartes were amazing!!! Especially the Japanese where they get you involved. The entertainment was great if you are willing to get involved. I had many a happy hour playing volleyball in the pool (along with children that I agree are very well behaved). One thing that is usually missing from reviews is the sea life. They have a variety of fish, strange starfish and sea eels (We thought they were snakes having only been to Spain, Tunisia and France previously LOL!!! I do have to admit that if someone had asked me for one poxy peso I would have been deeply offended...please get a grip. Nightlife was based on a disco that was not hugely popular but the fresh mojitos during the afternoon did a lot to help the nights along. The activities, especially hobby cats and canoes are always available and you can wander between the beaches of different resorts (be sure to go over to the right and see the fish by the rock wall!!!) We were there during hurricane sandy's build up and toilets did not work for a few days so to say they were not strong enough when working is laughable. All in all an absolutely brilliant holiday and will return as soon as possible. If you are looking for something more, like Melachi-ibn-Amillar, then spend more money and stop voting everywhere you go as average. I would have to make the logical conclusion that you go where you can afford and are always disappointed your life is not as good as want to convince others it is.

Room Tip: If there is a hurricane coming then get an upstairs room!!! just joking....they move you anyway lol

Just returned from a wonderful trip to Cuba. We stayed at Playa Costa Verde. First let me say I already miss Jesus the pool bartender. What a great guy. I am sure almost everyone will meet him. We were there two weeks. April 10th through the 24th. Sun everyday, not one drop of rain!! The beach is great, the water turqoise and was so warm. A little rocky but water shoes took care of that. Our maid was a blessing and made our room so pretty with towels done up in birds flowers and hearts. She put real flowers in our room and always made sure we had plenty water and coke. The lobby had the best coffee drinks and the music in the mornings was very nice. I thought that cuban food would be spicy but sadly most food was very bland. I never went hungry and there were many choices. The show at kyoto was great but Leo put on the best show and didn't cook the food until it was rubber. Went twice but it is the same food each time so.... The Italian was good also. The cuban restaurant was alright too. My room was right next store so that was good Ha! Remember to bring tons of lotion, sunblock and maybe Immodium. And like I said food is bland so bring spices you like. All in all I had a great time and will return there this winter.

Room Tip: sk for a corner room close to lobby and beach.

We enjoyed our week with 10 family members (no kids) at Playa Costa Verde. The resort is not overly large and everything is easily accessible within a few minutes. The resort grounds and pool area are very beautiful as is the lobby area. Waiter service in the lobby area was spotty; there seemed to be more staff on duty during the daytime than in the evening.

There was plenty of food in the buffet but wait lines for the individual stations were long; however, we were not there for the food. We found that to get good service in the buffet we needed to sit near the work stations. The Japanese à la cartè restaurant was entertaining and the food was delicious. A small beer corner, an ice cream bar, a beach bar & hot dog restaurant, Cuban and Italian restaurants are also available.

One of our favourite places to gather was the 24 hr. snack bar. Located in the centre of the resort, it served great food & drink all the time. An item that has never been available at any other of our previous 6 visits to Cuba was the all day champagne. Freshly squeezed orange juice made the Mimosas extremely delicious.

Our rooms were spacious and very clean, a large bottle of water was left each day, clean linens were plentiful. The maids were very appreciative of the little gifts or pesos that we left each day.

We took the double decker bus ride to nearby town of Guardalavaca and to the open market. We have been there before and noticed that the area is changing with the proposed building of a 5* resort. The vendors are still set up with lots of Cuban souvenirs.

It was quite windy during our visit to Playa Costa Verde so use of non-motorized watercraft was not often available. The one day of availability our son and his wife took out a sailboat only to have it break down.

The beach at the resort is lovely but be aware that there is coral close to the shore. There were always lounge beds available at the beach or at the pool.
. The theatre area does not have a cover overhead so with the high winds and threatening rain (it rained one evening), the theatre area was closed. The entertainment that could be staged took place in the lobby, making it somewhat crowded and difficult to see. However, after spending most of our days in the sun we took to our comfortable beds almost every night well before the entertainment was to start.

We like to stay at different resorts in Cuba but we would return to Playa Costa Verde as well as recommend it to others as well as the 5* Playa Pesquero resort next door. Hot sun, sandy beaches, a comfortable bed in a clean room (1119 first floor, or 1429 second floor)....that's what we look for in Cuba.

Room Tip: Corner suites on first or second floor are large. Buildings 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400, 1500 are centra...
