“Quirky but comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

From the outside it looks like a gaudy, quirky concrete monstrosity. When we first entered our room we noticed even the furnishings (wardrobe) was concrete. However despite being quirky the rooms are very comforatable and well equipped with nice bathroom with "proper" hot water, a/c, flat screen TV (though not much to watch in English) and 2 free bottles of water!
The hotel is cojoined to a casino, so entertainment is available there if you like - mostly poker machines but a couple of poorly patronised card tables. There is an ATM in the casino if you need it.
The hotel has a pool with a dinky little water slide. Next door is a water park but this wasn't open when we were there.

We were driving from Panama City to Bocas del Toro, via Santiago. Its a bit too long to do in one shot. Actually way too long, the drive over the mountains is beautiful but its a haul. Anyway we picked this as a stop over.

We were very pleased. Its basic but nice - cozy room, clean, ez to find (cant miss it) and the staff is extremely nice and helpful. Its attached to a casino if you are down with that program but separate enough that you can totally ignore it if not.

Free wifi, decent resturante. Very kid friendly with a great pool setup.

Perfect for an overnighter.

Oh don't speed on the transamerica. Just saying.

Like most people who stay overnight in Santiago, we were here less than 24 hours as we took a break driving from Panama City.

The room is adorable, festively painted and comfy. Tile floors and fixtures.

I would've liked the place even more if it were less than the $81 rate but I'd heard nightmares about some other Santiago stopovers, so glad to have a safe & tidy way station for the night. As long as the wifi and cable tv worked, I was a happy camper.

Great rest stop with Casino attached. Pool, restaurant, big flat screen TV ( English & Spanish). Water park right next door for the kids. Wonderful stop over spot to break up a road trip from one side of the country to the another. Colorful Mexican decor. Mexican/Italian food in the restaurant

Room Tip: Parking: spaces can be cramped. Best choice are the ones directly in front of the hotel that are a...

Stayed in this hotel Feb1st- 6th ,On our way to boquete ,Held up there due to road blocks by local Indians , It was a relief to say the least to find this Hotel ,Nice patio and pool area,Friendly staff ,Rooms are large two double beds and clean ,plenty of hot water ,Free WiFi,Nicely decorated in the Mexican style, brightly colored,A little out of town but cabs were cheap,To far to walk to the town's restaurants,Restaurant on site was okay but found the food pricey,as was a beverage above the average price of other local restaurants,But on the whole a good place to stay if passing thru Santiago,Would stay there again .

Room Tip: Help if you had knowledge of spanish ,Saff have little understanding of English,

I recently stayed there on Feb 28, 2012, and also on Jan/25, and Jan/27-2012.

I go to Mexico on a monthly basis, and though this Hotel La Hacienda is not Mexico itself, it provides a nice Mexican ambiance and decoration. The owner himself is Mexican, if I recall right. Breakfast can be awesome, depending on what you order. Lunch, sandwiches and supper can also be good, certainly above average, but Mexican they are not. Some rooms have issues with their bathrooms doors, TV reception, or air conditioner unit, but the hotel staff takes note of that, and try to accommodate you right away. This hotel used to be new, and though very good yet, some maintenance issues are coming afloat more and more. I know that because I have stayed here some 12 times over the last 5 years or so (why, because it is conveniently located, half way between Panama City and the city of David, in the province of Chiriqui). Luckily, the human team comes together, and make up for any aging of the physical structure; the restaurant staff if simply great! Business center can be overly busy at times, sadly, sometimes by staff not by guests.

Pool is nice, specially during Panama's dry season. Mosquitoes might be a nuisance during rainy season (usually, April through Mid-December in Panama). Fresh fruits and drinks are always available. I will keep staying here, though I wish food prices were more in line with Hotel La Galeria, a nearby Panamanian option to La Hacienda. Front desk staff should smile more; they are the first human impression on that hotel.

Management could enhance surrounding with lots of colorful "veraneras" (bouganvillas, in Mexico). During the dry season, Santiago may be the hottest city in the Republic of Panama. Keep yourself hydrated.

Room Tip: Ask to be changed immediately if rooms feature do not work. Making advance reservation helps.

A very nice friendly hotel. Excellent clean rooms with good beds and clean linen. Real shower heads and hot water. Wonderful colorful Mexican decor, every room is different. It is right on the Interamerican Highway but not near anything. Nothing is close enough to walk to. They know that they have a captive audience and the restaurant is very overpriced. Cheapest thing on the menu is a grilled cheese sandwich for $5.50. The same sandwich in town is $1.75.

Room Tip: They all looked to be about the same.
