“Lovely hotel, wonderful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012

We stayed here with friends and agree with the majority of other reviews that this hotel is a really great place to stay with staff who make you feel very welcome. We booked a room for three and were allocated a very big room (large double and single bed) with a lovely terraced area to sit outside and relax. The large clean swimming pool was only 25 yds from our room so we had an ideal spot. I have no problems in recommending this hotel to others visiting Kefalos.

Room Tip: We were allocated room 402 and it was ideal for us.

Me and my boyfriend stayed in this hotel at the end of August and we loved every minute of it. The staff at the hotel are lovely and make you feel like part of their family. All the staff want to help you and are extremely hard working (defiantly the husband and wife). We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, the free breakfast is only toast however we brought a cooked breakfast every morning which was only 2.50 and well worth the money. The hotel room was in the 4th block which was up a large amount of stairs but it was very clean and spacey, the only thing we felt was missing was a television. The Air con is not free however it is very cheap and fans are free of charge. The pool was extremely clean and open to 8 at night, we never had a problem with sun beds. Kefalos is a great town for couples and those who are looking for a quieter holiday and Hermes is located on top of a very large hill so make sure you pack your hiking shoes. We hired qued-bikes which was fantastic as you can travel to Kos town on only 20euros. Even better was getting on the bus right outside the hotel and traveling all over the island, you can jump on and off wherever you fancy. Would definitely return again.

I stayed here with my partner for two weeks at the beginning of August. We do not usually stay in 3* accomodation but we are so glad we did. The Hermes is the friendliest hotel we have ever stayed, i thought people were exagerating when they said you are treated as one of the family when you arrive, but really you are. Im not going to name anyone inparticular because they were all brilliant. We had a room in the 3's block which is up the "ramp" that appears daunting when you first arrive but steadily the ramp becomes easier. Ive not stayed in greece for a while but from what i remembered of the rooms generally in greece i wasnt expecting much, we were very pleasantly suprised. Modern, clean, still basic with no tv but perfectly acceptable. Yes its true the aircon is not included and is quite pricey, we just slept with the door open and risked getting bit, (which we did, mossi spary a must), Yes its true the breakfast is toast OR cereal but there is lots of choice for a few euros, (it says cornflakes but its not branded cornflakes and is not really comparable to decent cornflakes at home). The pool was lovely, we did get up early to get beds but we did stay on them all day, some guests are inconsiderate reserving beds then going to the beach all day, but this happens everywhere and theres not much the hotel can do. The snack bar at the pool serves lovely food, very fresh, spiro works very hard at this thank you spiro. Overall the hotel was brilliant and we wouldnt hesitate returning, I would hire a car next time, we hired a quad for one day which was fantastic and not too expensive, from katerinas literally opposite, BUT go to sebastian first to ask about car hire etc as he knows all the right people. We recommend the santa barbara restaurant by the harbour, beautiful place beautiful food beautiful people. We would recommend the Hermes to anyone except for those with walking/breathing dificulties as everywhere is up hill.
Great place and great value, would return anytime

Room Tip: request a high room and not a room in reception as i hear they are not as nice

My wife and i have just returned from the Hermes, having spent a 7 day stay there mid-August, on a bed and breakfast basis. The hotel was very clean and modern. The staff were wonderful, clean towels every day, beds changed and rooms cleaned every other day. The breakfast was a little disappointing, but for a couple of euros you could have a variety of food from a varied menu. If you are looking for a quiet area, then Kefalos is the place to be. Plenty of supermarkets, the best being 'Better than Asda' on the beach front which is family run and owned, and has been there since at least 2004. And can we suggest that you visit the Galini Restaurant on the corner just below the police station. George is a fantastic man and the menu is vast and the food is excellent. Best in Kefalos! We will warn you that going at this time of year you must like VERY HOT WEATHER. Would definitely make a return visit.

Room Tip: Rooms up behind the main reception area, more steps, but worth it, nice and quiet!

Just arrived back and would like to recommend this hotel. True, it's not the most luxurious, but the friendly staff, and the cleanliness of the rooms make up for that. My husband and I went for a week bed and breakfast. We arrived at 1am, tired and hot the staff were welcoming and the check in was quick. We would definitely recommend you pay the extra for air con, it was 30c at 1am!! Yes breakfast is basic, instant coffee and squash available, personally I would have preferred filter coffee and fresh juice but something this minor would not spoil my holiday. The pool area was always clean and beds available although we didnt use it much. We hired a quad from Katerinas which is literally next door to the hotel which enabled us to visit some of the lovely beaches at bit further a field, we even ventured as far as Kos Town on it to catch a boat to do the 3 Island boat trip, which was well worth the €30 each which also included BBQ for lunch, a full day, 10.30 we set sail and arrived back in Kos at 18.00. Pay a visit to Paradise Beach/Bubble Beach. The locals were very welcoming everywhere we went. Our favourite restaurant to eat out was Camel Restaurant, about 7 mins out of Kefalos on the road to Kos, we very rarely go back to the same place twice but we returned 3 times in a week. Sunbed and umbrella's can be hired at the beaches, we paid on average €6 for 2, however in Kamari if you use the beds and umbrellas in front of some of the bars on the front they don't charge if you buy from them. All in all we would definitely go back and would not want to change a thing and this is from someone who generally does 5*!!!

My friend and I spent a week here in July, it was very quiet which was what we wanted but may not suit anyone looking for a lot of nightlife.
Beaches in Kefalos are mostly stony which was disappointing.
Very cheap to eat out and the people are very friendly without being too familiar.
Take the bus from outside the hotel to Paradise beach (about 10 minutes), it is the nicest beach in the area but can get very busy, the same bus will take you to Kos town (about an hour), the bus is fully air conditioned and quite comfortable (just like a coach).
The hotel itself was very clean and the staff very friendly and helpful, it is run by a family who seem to work very long hours but always have a smile and a friendly word.
We were half board and if I were to return I would choose to just do b and b as I am a fussy eater and a lot of the food was Greek and not to my taste,
I celebrated my 50th birthday and I have to say that everyone went out of their way to make my day special, many thanks to Nick and Spiros the bar staff (Thanks for the Greek dance Spiros) and Diana for organizing a cake, also the Karaoke staff who made the night such fun.
You should know that breakfast consists of EITHER cereal OR Toast, tea, coffee and juice, if you want anything extra you have to pay for it.
You also have to pay for the air conditioning, which is €7 a night.
You can hire a kettle at reception and Diana includes mugs, spoons and a tray, approx €1 a night.
Pool area is very clean and the food is quite good and reasonably priced, Katrina and spiros make a good team at the pool snack bar.
All in all we had a lazy week and would certainly go back.

*The family who own the hotel are very friendly, very bubbly, welcoming and their english is very good but if you need anything like extra chairs and glasses then it might take a while to get to you.. or NEVER!
*101-106 are the old rooms, which are very basic, which are situated above the bar and resturant area. I had room 103. You get 2 single beds and a bed settee. The room is boiling!!! So I got the air con but it was very weak and it costs 7 Euros a day. Your not able to leave the air con on while your not in the room because you need your key to have the electricity, the only way of keeping your room cool when your not there is if you were to keep the sliding door open but that means that your valiables are at risk of getting stolen. We could hear everything which was going on at the bar, it echos the sound and also the cleaners in the morning start at 6am and you hear them moving tables and chairs around, so if you want a lie-in i recommend you to have ear-plugs but if your a deep sleeper then theirs no problems.
*Even though you are woken up at 6am this is useful because it is a great opportunity to go down to the pool and put your towels on the beds, because if you dont then you will have a bed without any shade and in 32 degree heat you will BURN!!!!!
*Breakfast starts at 8am, if you are half board and expecting continental breakfast this consist of 2 pieces of toast with butter, strawberry Jam and peach jam OR cornflakes but you do get bottomless orange juice, tea and coffee. The toast is like hot bread! If you want anything else for examples full english breakfast, pancakes, fruit then you will have to pay extra, which is defeating the object of having half board as you have already paid for it.
*The room is very basic, quite small and gets cleaned almost every day which was good. They dont have kettles in the rooms, the bathroom is also very basic, the shower isnt a proper shower its more of a hand-held shower, also you tend to flood the bathroom because their isnt a shower curtain around it, which can get very dangerous.
* The pool is very clean and is a great size, it doesnt get busy so you able to swim as it is a good length. There is a little restuarant by the pool, where you can get lunch from and refreshments and ice creams, the price is good and i recommend trying the special large pizza it is gorgeous! The sunbeds are located all the way around the pool.
* If you are not going to spend your day around the pool, you have an average half a mile walk down hill walking on the road(which can get abit scary with the wild motobikes, quads), to the beach, the beach isnt a typical beach, very very very pebbly even the sand is shingly, but at the far harbour end is a nice sandy beach. The sea is lovely and clear and isnt a busy area, so you able to relax. There are a few resturants around the beach. After spending your day on the beach, and you are exhausted from the sun, you then have to trek back up the hill, back to the apartment ready for your evening meal and you cannot be late otherwise you starve!!!
* Dinner time, starts at 7pm and you get served bread and butter as soon as you sit down, then you get an option to have a starter which is more likely to be soup, fried chicpeas, tomato&onion stuffed aubergine, then for your main course you are more likely to have greek style beef stew, spagbol, meatballs and rice, chicken, potatoes and salad (which was lovely), pork chops. So you do get a good variety of food and it is lovely. When we was staying their, you then have a all you can eat buffet which consists of previous meals from in the week so their isnt much variety and also there is a BBQ night, which was very dissapointing as all food was cooked inside and all there really was, were kebab skewers and beef burgers which are tiny. They will stop cooking when they think they have served everyone and they dont check, so if you come down late then you wont have any food to eat, especially if you are half board then you will then have too, walk down the hill to the strip which there are loads of restuarants but it means having to pay more money out for food. So you need to make sure that you are ready for food at the aloated time or otherwise you will miss out.
* If you walk down the hill to the strip then there is hardly no noise and that most of the resturants are half empty and they arent busy at all. It is a very quite and calm place. So if that is what you want then it will be perfect for you.
* The scenry is gorgeous, from the balcony of the rooms is beautiful.
* There are loads of excursions which would be very good to go on, but the prices are expensive, but if you dont want to go on trips then you dont have to and you can relax around the pool all day.

As a package deal we were very dissapointed with the value of money but Overall I think that this hotel/appartment is very nice and is ideal for people who want a chilled/relaxed holiday......

Room Tip: To email the family before-hand and ask for a room in the new buildings.............
