“The most wonderful place to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2011

The most wonderful place to stay along the western coast of the North Island. The views from this place are so breathtaking. The accomodations are incredibly spacious and comfortable. Have stayed here twice already, heading back for third time in the next few months.

Four elements is perched above beautiful temperate bush and trees with sweeping views down to the surfers paradise that is Raglan. Our host, Jerry, could not have been more accommodating and we were fortunate enough to be given the master suite which had its own entrance onto the balcony/patio (with fab views) although we had only booked a couple of nights before. The bed and bedding were of the highest quality and we had a very peaceful night's sleep. We had our own dressing room and en-suite bathroom with plenty of towels. We drove into Raglan and ate at a lovely restaurant on the corner of the main street overlooking the sea. We made our way to Whale beach later and watched the surfers doing their stuff and the most incredible sunset of which we must have taken hundreds of photos. After we returned to Four Elements we lay on the sun loungers and stared at the amazing display from the Milky Way, counting satellites, for over an hour after all the other guests had long retired inside. Breakfast is a little ad hoc and you are pretty much left to your own devices ie do it yourself, but this was ok as we had the opportunity to chat to the other guests staying there. The only downside is that we were only able to stay one night, I would have liked the opportunity to have had a massage!! Bliss.

Room Tip: Ask for master suite

Right from the first moment of arrival, this weekend was so much more than we expected it to be.
The warm welcome on arrival was appreciated after a long day of travel.

Four Elements is a great place to spend some time. It is spacious, beautifully furnished and had everything we needed. Local art adorns the walls and the views from the deck, and large windows, are a work of art in their own right.

It's a short trip to Raglan township. What a fab town Raglan is! Beautifully laid out and so many restaurants and cafe's to choose from!

Jerry went out of his way to make sure we had everything we needed and was able to answer any queries we had about things to do locally.

The shower was a delight, the bed, oh so comfortable, the kitchen came equipped with breakfast supplies. The whole place was just perfect.

Apologies if this review sounds like a plant from an interested party--Four Elements is THAT good.

We arrived a little late in Raglan one evening and were referred to Four Elements by another B&B. Proprietor Jerry Giles greeted us at dusk with a big smile and gracious welcome--he knows how good he has it. Four Elements is the upper main floor of a large, recently remodeled home set high above the coast and sheltered by magical Mount Karioi and its native forests. We were given a stupendous suite with walk-through dressing area, impeccable feng shui and original local artwork. Oh, and one of the world's truly great views with huge windows on three sides: folds of earth rising from the sea in an endless, graceful arc. After we finished jumping up and down, we made use of the shared kitchen facilities, large terrace and ample sitting rooms. Jerry helped us secure spots in the popular local surfing school for the next day and went out of his way to accommodate us.

We were privileged to have experienced Four Elements during our whirlwind tour of New Zealand, and we hope to come back some day with friends to share our joyful discovery.
