“Last minute booking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

My partner and I are from photographers Tauranga and decided last minute after a job in Hamilton we'd take a night out in raglan somewhere nice. We booked online and turned up within 2 hours. We've had some experiences lately of the photos on the websites grossly misrepresenting the reality of the hotel.
Thankfully, Waoku was everything the pictures claimed it would be. The service was spot on. When we walked in the guy on the desk greeted me by name (from the booking).
Not only that, we got a free upgrade. We had a quick scout around the other rooms and they are all beautifull. You can see down to the ocean while having a spa on your deck.
You get to choose from a awesome menu. We both had eggs bene and the bacon was obviously homekill and the bread fresh.
I have nothing bad to say about this place at all. 5 is not a high enough rating for this hotel. If you want something special, go here.

We were given as a gift a one night stay at Waoku Lodge.
5 star Qualmark ratings have several times been a let down.
Waoku Lodge is in a lovely peaceful envirionment but we couls not sit out on our deck as the people in the next apartment could be both seen and heard so we settled for indoors.
We had ordered dinner and it arrived on time and beautifully presented but I had to get up and get water several times during the night as the duck was soooooo salty .
Breakfast arrived with the salt and pepper already on the food !! A condiment set would be the usual, I think .
I don't like a lot of salt and both our health conditions prefers a very small amt as well !!!!
For the most part the apartment was clean but the units in the lounge were very dusty and had more than a few cobwebs beneath them!!
The bathroom could benefit from a shelf in the shower for toilitries and a couple of hooks to hang clothes.
The floor or the toilet seat are not options.
Rob does a fair enough job but smiles are not his style it would seem.
We won't be back .

Thank you to the wonderful host and the venue for a very relaxing getaway, sitting on the deck watching the sun set then the upstairs quiet of the comfortable bed. Breakfast was delicious and sitting looking out at the native bush listening to the bird life is a wonderful start to a morning. Rob we will be back for more of your hospitality soon.

This seriously was my eighth trip to Waoku Lodge and it never disappoints
AND I WILL BE BACK - LOVE IT

We love this place - its relaxing, the rooms are stunning, the food is amazing and the owners who work and live on site are just AMAZING.
we always feel welcome and right at home.

The spa sessions are amazing - I'm a fan of the 1 hour full body massage followed by a soak in the on deck spa which over look's gorgeous Whale Bay - a couple of cheeky glasses of bubbles is usually on the cards.

Raglan has some really great looking cafes etc as well although I have to admit we usually opt for staying on site because the food's always amazing fresh, delicious local fare.

I miss you already Waoku lodge - See you next time X

My girlfriend and I stayed at Waouku Lodge for 7 days. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The food was divine, from the best duck we've ever had to the unique gourmet pizzas and the sublime fresh seafood. The surroundings were peaceful and natural which reminded us of the New Zealand we thought had been lost. We couldn't help but to relax. The attention to detail through out the unit was beautiful, with original art works tastefully displayed. A great range of natural bathroom products with the best shower we've ever had. I would definitely recommend to family and friends. We are constantly travelling due to our work, and look forward to returning. Thanks again for the great stay!

My husband and I visited the Lodge for a rare 'couple getaway' from the big city of Auckland. We arrived expecting relative luxury and found that the Lodge provides lovely accomodation in a very nice bush setting. However, we were treated as 2nd class citizens by the owner from the moment of arrival. We had booked through an online deal, offering a slightly discounted price, and discovered from experience that it means you'll get 'discount service'. The owner was mostly unfriendly and unhelpful. For example, the Bose MP3 player had no connector chord, and he made no effort to offer an alternative means of playing music. When we asked where to eat in Raglan, he simply 'trashed' all the local eateries saying we should be eating in (something we couldn't afford.) On leaving, he made it clear that he wants 'international tourists'. So if you're not an 'international tourist' with big money, prepare to be disappointed.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a spa. Not all rooms have access to a spa pool.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at Waoku Lodge, on arrival we decided to scrap our dinner plans of eating in town and just relax on the deck and order our dinner from their kitchen, which was fantastic to look out over the ocean, and relax in the spa which was on our deck.
The furnishings and trimmings were rather luxurious and our intended 1 night stay turned into 2. We ordered our breakfast also which surpassed all we had had in other hotels. This is the place if you are looking for peaceful luxury. Nothing seemed too much trouble for our hosts ( even that late night bottle of wine)! We came away feeling spoiled and rested.
