“Breakfast At An Exorbitant Price”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2012

I strolled down to The Old Mill specifically for breakfast and was aghast to discover that a very mediocre breakfast cost £10.00! Along with the usual tomato, toast and beans there was only one egg, one sausage, one rasher of bacon and one mushroom! Adding insult to injury, coffee is not included in the price! I must add that there is "free" toast, butter, jam and honey but these condiments are open and in a jar; serving oneself after several others have dug their knives in is, in my opinion, rather unappetizing! While the breakfast itself was edible, it is certainly not worth the exorbitant price and, having felt that I had been ripped off, I shall never eat there again.

“Never Again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

This was my second visit and personally wouldn’t have gone but for the fact our group of friends had already arranged the restaurant. I had the crab cake to start which was dry and pretty much tasteless. This was followed by the gammon steak which was heavily salted to the point of being unpleasant but the chips were ok. The waiting staff were polite but the service was below average. £36 per head wasted.

“a great sunday treat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2012

just moved around the corner to the old mill so will defo be a regular and i have to say it was lovely last night - we went in for a drink at lunchtime and it was so busy we decided to go back in the evening

it was quiet but great service ( unfortunatley a few items were off the menu due to a busy lunch but what we had was yummy) - i am a veggy so it wasnt that easy finding stuff on the menu but the waiter happily swopped things over to suit

lovely venue, lovely food - a tad pricey hence the 4 stars not 5 but worth it

“Good but not good enough”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

Starter sharing boards are really good. Otherwise menu is not broad enough and two out of 6 of us struggled to find something we really wanted. Not enough fish on the menu or staples like burgers. Really cheekily they add a wacking service charge. Too expensive for what it is.

“Very disapointed with the gourmet menu”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2012

I love this place and regularly go there for all sorts of occasions but last friday we decided on the spur of the moment (and it was pay day) to treat ourselves!
The staff were lovely as usual and the service was great. We decided to try the gourmet menu which was on offer along side the regular menu, it looked lovely although on the pricey side for a pub.
Wrong thing to do!! We both chose the goats cheese mouse starter, it could not have been any smaller, three tiny teaspoons of mouse with a beetroot sauce and leaves and that was £7.50.
My partner had the pork belly & scallop (in the singular) served with 1 potato we were not told that we had to order vegtables seperatly. I had the monk fish which was very nice, three small pieces, this was served with roasted vegtables but again i thought £21.50 for the fish was a lot of money.
We had recently been on holiday on Cornwall and were very luck to to eat out at Adam Warnes & Rick Stiens Deli and i have to say they were both places offered much better value for the same money..
It wont put us off the Old Mill because the regular menu is great and the staff fantastic but i wont be recommending or trying the gourmet menu again. Very disapointing experience.
