We liked this hotel for its beautiful views and peaceful location despite being very near the motorway exit to Crolles.
The room was smaller than at other Holiday Inn Express Hotels we staid at, but very comfortable. We had a room with a double bed and a sofabed on the second (top) floor. However, even with the double sofa-bed opened there was (just) enough room to move and everything was clean and looked new. We loved waking up and seeing snow-capped peaks while lying in bed! There were plenty of parking places both in front and behind the hotel.
There is a small conference centre and restaurant next to the hotel which seem in some way connected to it. The restaurant seemed adequate but for variety one really needs to drive into Crolles or to the area near the motorway exit, where there is also a well-stocked but busy Casino supermarket. The village of Bernin is quite agreeable and has a couple of pizzerias, a rather dingy looking restaurant (although we didn't try it) and a boulangerie and boucherie, but it is unfortunately too far (at least mile and a half) to walk to from the hotel. So if you don't want to drink and drive the restaurant by the hotel is the only realistic option. There was a beer-garden (brasserie) less than a quarter of mile from the hotel but it serves no food.
The pool is smallish (I guess around 20ft x 15ft) but heated and has a handful of loungers around it. We didn't use it though, but some families with children seemed to enjoy it. There are some low-riseoffice buildings near the hotel but they don't detract from the beauty of the views up the mountains. The breakfast buffet (cold) was good and fresh. Staff were only just ok - I guess they knew that guests would like the location and newness of the hotel without them having to try too hard!
Ohter reviewers commented on the difficulty of finding the hotel - and we did too! So here is our tip: Exit the motorway and take the road to Crolles . However, do not turn right into Crolles Centre at the roundabout. Instead take the turning left to Bernin and just as you come into the village turn left by the first Pizza place (and before the Pharmacie). If you missed the turn (easily done) drive to the end of Bernin village and turn back at the roundabout, and on your way back look for the sign to the 'Zone d'Activites' on the right under which the Holiday Inn Express is also signposted with a very small sign.
We staid for 3 nights. The relative isolation of the hotel seemed a small price to pay for the beautiful views, peaceful location., and good basic comforts.
