“Basic but good food and lovely staff.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2012

Bon Habi was a pleasant little hotel close to the Kaziranga Park entrance. The bedroom was large and spacious although the bathroom needed a little attention and a good scrub down. The beds were comfy if a little hard and as we visited in winter we found it to be a little chilly with no heating.
That said, the staff were all really helpful, they organised our safaris and elephant rides in the mornings. Our naturalist was lovely and took us to all three ranges aswell as a nearby forested area to see the critically endangered Hoolock gibbon.
The waiting staff in the restaurant were lovely and the food was of a good quality and plentiful (in fact too plentiful, we asked them to bring less) The grounds were pleasant with birds singing.
I would recommend Bon Habi as a place to stay it was friendly and quaint and we enjoyed our stay there.
My tip for any visitors would be....turn the water heater on and when the red light goes off have a shower straight away. If you switch it on before you go on safari the water will have heated up and then gone cold again by the time you get back (We figured this out on the last night! great!)

A real value for money place, landscaping is nothing great to write home about. Rooms and bathrooms are spacious. The dogs roaming around the property were a bit of scare and I would have been more comfortable without them around. Restaurant was basic but service was good.
Would prefer:
- some brochures explaining places to see around Kaziranga along with maps.
- rates for some of the nearby visits, along with type of vehicle/ expected time.
A lot of this information had to be asked/ pulled out from the net. It is not readily available - essentially there is no travel desk type of concept.

After having been warned by friends that good accommodation was non-existent in Kaziranga we were extremely surprised to find somewhere as lovely as Bon Habi. The rooms were incredibly clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated and looking out over a beautifully tended garden. Food in the restaurant was simple but very good and the service was excellent. Staff look after all of your rhino-spotting trip needs too. All this plus it was the deluxe room we had was excellent value for money. The only thing that stopped this hotel getting 5 stars from me was the lack of atmosphere in the common areas and restaurant. They could easily remedy this by having some background music on.

We stayed at this resort for two nights in November, 2011 and really liked the resort. This was a family getaway and we had booked two rooms for the 5 of us, one of the members being our three year daughter. Although we did not specifically ask for it at the time of booking, the resort manager was kind enough to give us two adjacent back to back rooms connected through a common door.
The rooms were pretty large with very decent furniture. The mattresses on the double beds were a little on the harder side, but was otherwise comfortable. One of the rooms had a fairly large dressing room while the best part of the other room was that it had a large bathroom that opened to the sky where one could enjoy a shower while enjoying one's privacy. The rooms and the bathrooms were neat and clean and generally well kept.
One drawback of the resort is that it does not have in room telephone facility. That was a letdown because we wanted to have some in-room snacks and tea after a tiring day of sight seeing, safari and trekking. But not having a phone in the room made it tough, because the only other way to do it was to walk to the kitchen, place your order and then ask them to deliver to your room. Since our rooms were quite close to the main office, we got it done without much trouble, but there were cottages that were at some distance from the main office, and for those cottages, in-room telephones would be a welcome change. We left a feedback with the front desk at the time of leaving and they promised to look into it. Hopefully it will be there soon.
The food menu is somewhat limited, but the quality is good. They probably do not have too big a kitchen staff, because we found that they were struggling servicing a large group of 20+ people. A good idea is to order your food in advance (about an hour); that way we found the service was much better.
The resort itself is located at a very convenient place. It is about 1.5 km from the entrance gate of the Central Range (Kohora) and is about 13 km from the Western Range (Bagori). The Eastern Range (Agoratoli) which is excellent for bird watching, lies about 20 km east of this resort.
The resort has a wonderful natural feel to it and one can spend a lazy morning or an afternoon in the gazebo in the courtyard. There are plenty of birds around and their chirping sound combined with the beautiful ambiance of the resort make it a fantastic location to stay while visiting the Kaziranga National Park.

Kaziranga is the only national park where you can see the one-horned rhino in all its natural splendor. While searching for resorts online, we came upon Bonhabi close to Kaziranga park gates in Assam. Making a booking for the resort can be a bit of a challenge since email/website booking doesn't work - but if you have a little patience (make a reservation by phone and ask for fax confirmation) you will be positively glad you chose this place!

Bonhabi is a great property amid sylvan surroundings - they have cottages set amongst a lot of greenery and charming layout - children can play as there's plenty of open space with pleasant seating all around. The rooms are quite spacious and clean and there is provision for hot water in the attached baths. The restaurant is nice with good menu choices, the food delicious - in fact, the best we've had at any wildlife resort in India thus far. The staff is most courteous taking care of anything you need. Because there are limited cottages it also means it isn't crowded, which is the best part about your holiday. Also, you can request the resort to arrange vehicle transport for you from Guwahati airport (5-6 hrs drive) instead of searching for a local operator.

Kaziranga by itself is a huge park - alternating between large swamps, open ground, and dense wooded forest. The Bhramaputra runs right through the middle of the park and is a huge river - easy to see why it floods the plains in the rains. There's elephant grass all around in the grasslands, so much so that its difficult to spot a herd of wild elephants unless they are really close. And the rhinos! There's lots of them - huge and totally fearless, so don't get in there way and they wont get in yours! Its difficult to spot a tiger in such a huge park - you've got to be lucky if you see one. Best time to visit is April before the park closes in May - remember rains arrive early in eastern India.

All in all, a most amazing experience - fantastic resort with great food, ideal location and pleasant eastern India courtesy. And don't miss a visit to the neighboring tea and spice gardens.

Like: The food and the property
Dislike: Short visit !

Bon Habi Resort is a lovely resort to spend your vacation in Kaziranga. Situated 13kms from the Bagori range (Western side), the resort has 14 large cottages in a wonderful courtyard. The courtyard has a gazebo where you can laze with the birds chirping around you.
The restaurant has a limited food menu but the quality & taste of the food is exceptional. The staff is friendly and helpful.
