I can't say enough good things about Kazirnaga itself. The elephant safari is incredible for sighting rhino, water buffalo, wild elephants, barasingha, hog deer, birds, monkeys and the other wildlife that is the lure to this park.
The staff at IORA hotel were VERY friendly and meaning to be accommodating. The rooms were clean, well appointed, great views, great size and nice to be in after long days on safari. However, I booked the suite specifically because it has a bathtub. I live in Mumbai and I try to find bathtubs when I travel because it is quite important to me. There was a large bathtub in this room with a wonderful view of the jungle BUT there was never enough hot water to draw a hot bath. This is a deal breaker for me. I remembered to ask if there was a bathtub, but forgot to ask if there was hot water to fill it! So, I was quite disappointed. I booked for four nights in the suite and was not able to get one hot bath.
As others have pointed out, the food takes a very long time to get served and it is quite mediocre when it arrives. The breakfast buffet was good, but it doesn't open until 1/2 hour after one returns from the early elephant safari. Also, do not allow yourself to be talked into the "cruise" on the Brahmaputra river to see Gangetic river dolphin. It is an exhaust fume engulfed boring cruise, looking at little to nothing, while the guide informs you that there are only 300 dolphins left on a 1600 km stretch of river. The trip tp the Mis-sing tribal village, however, was out of this world, an incredibly rewarding experience with a wonderful lunch cooked and served by friendly, welcoming tribal people and an opportunity to see the culture and lives of this village of tribal people.
Overall, I'd say, this was one of the great trips, but primarily because of the Kazirnaga itself and my guide, Somnath Borah, a wonderful guide. Very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The IORA is probably the place to stay, but not if you want plenty of hot water. At over 200 USD per night, I felt that it was reasonable to expect it.
DO go to Kazirnaga. Run, don't walk.......viewing the rhinoceros from elephant back at dawn is an unforgettable experience and worth all the hours of bumpy, dusty roads to get there.
At Iora, the hotel staff was VERY
