“Will not come back.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013 via mobile

The only good thing that happened to us was we were allowed to check in earlier than the specified time. The rest is so bad. Our key cards kept getting deactivated, couldnt enter the room and everytime I went to get them re activated, the excuse was "sorry the other person entered the wrong dates of stay". Seriously?
On 23rd July, I went to the reception late at night to ask for some guides to help us around Melbourne. The hotel didnt have ANY travel guides. The receptionist was so cool about it. All he said was "we dont have any". He never said sorry, or that he will arrange one for us and bring it over ASAP.
The bathroom is really really small. The room made me sick. Its unbelievable that when I was outside the hotel I was fine but as soon as I got back to the room, I got a headache.
Bad experience this.

Hi Mohit,
Thank you for taking the time to provide valuable feedback about your stay, we appreciate you taking the time. We are concerned about your issues around the lack of Melbourne guides available at the time of your stay, and have ordered more. We are talking through the room key card issue with our front office staff to ensure that the confusion you experienced does not happen again. We hope to have the opportunity to give you a better experience should you come to stay with us again.

Kind Regards,

This hotel seems disorganised from them moment I arrived at Reception. The staff were cool and distant. Payment in FULL for accommodation is insisted upon check-in. I was not given a day rate for the room and was told the room rates vary daily depending on High/Low vacancy rates.

The room itself smelled musty, the fridge shelves were crusty, dirty, and the door of fridge was broken.

The remote control for the TV was not working.

I called housekeeping but no-one was available, I then called reception repeatedly (5 times) before the manager finally came up to assist. He was able to swap over my remote but advised that Mainatenance on the dirty fridge would be fixed the next day.

The room was dark, and noisy, as it was closer the the Bell Street side. The bathroom was tiny, and mouldy and also had a stench to it,

If you are given this accommodation as part of your business travel, I suggest you quit your job - your employer obviously doesn't respect you. Thats how i felt staying here!

If you are on a holiday in Melbourne and looking for economical accommodation, please look elsewhere as this place is out of the way, dirty, expensive, and your treated as a dishonest person, given they insist on prepayment.

Hi biancacata,

Thank you for taking the time to provide your comments and feedback. We found your review to be very concerning, as our rooms have a high cleanliness standard, and the issues you experienced do not sound reflective of our usual benchmark. All of these comments are being addressed individually by our housekeeping and management team, and taken very seriously. The pre payment is a standard that is experienced in many hotels these days, and is a key initiative to helping our guests experience a fast and easy check out. We hope to have the opportunity to give you a better experience should you come to stay with us again.

Kind Regards,

Hotel Management

We stayed one night as a treat for my husbands birthday. Great room, away from the road (Bell St) so no problem with traffic noise. Staff were good, the only criticism is the bathroom. The area around the toilet was so small that I at 5 foot 1 had issues, but my 6 foot 5 husband had no hope. Other than that, I would recommend to others.

We had a flight delay so were put up here by Quantas, the staff got us in very quickly and the staff in the restaurant coped admirably with the late influx. We ate in the restaurant which was okay however there seemed to be far more choice on the bar menu so wished we had done that. Given we really would have preferred to have been going home it was not a bad experience at all.

Hi Iantoes,

Thank you for the lovely review regarding our staff, we are very proud of their ability to manage the unexpectedly busy times such as the one you experienced. Also great to hear that you enjoyed a meal at CHILL, our onsite restaurant, which has recently undergone a seasonal menu overhaul. Stayed due to a work related event at the hotel but can't think of another good reason to stay. Quite expensive and a long way from anything I would want to see. Difficult to get to the city. Room not serviced and when requested did not happen till $ that night. Next morning I realized no towels.

Hi Gr_Taylor,

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your stay with us, we appreciate it. Addressing your concerns regarding the difficulty to get to the city, our guest services team is always on hand to direct you to the multiple public transport options available, and our shuttle bus that runs to the city on weekdays during the uni semesters (complimentary to guests). We also have five well priced hire vehicles available at the complex, which are a great option to make the 15 minute drive to the city whenever you need. The lack of towels is concerning, and our housekeeping has been notified. We hope to make sure that your next stay with us is enjoyable.

Starters location isvgood to everything not too far away, courtousy bus is great to catch to get the city and to local shops, though the staff were very helpful and couteous the timetables provided were confusing to work out.
The most disappointing thing was we booked a Manhattan room at Rydges so we would have more space than the budget sleep and go, it was very disappointing when we heard and saw our room and other room reviews. What was advertised online and what we got was completly different, our shower toilet and wash basin is fitted in to 3x1m space. Not the photos shown online with views of city, we have a lively view of the carpark, ensure you ring up and double check what you are getting though then agsin I tried that and the receptionist could not assits and told me to book online.
The beds are comfortable and the buffett breakfast great.

All in all ok, though quality of room not worth price, advertising missleading.

Hi Feriver_86,

Thank you for your review, its great to hear you enjoyed your stay. The courtesy bus is definitely the most relaxing way travel to the CBD while you stay here. Due to the layout of the building not all room layouts can be shown on the website, however the reservations team should be able to help next time when you request a city view room, we apologise for this not being the case. We look forward to you staying with us again soon.

I stayed 5 nights in a 2 bed Manhattan deluxe room in the south wing. This was a quiet room away from the main road. The room is very spacious and comfortable. Great comfy beds and pillows. Buffet breakfast in the CHILL Restaurant was well worth the extra cost. All staff were polite and helpful. I would stay here again if I was visiting Preston in the future.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side are quieter and the corner suite has floor to ceiling windows. Great views t...
