We stayed here as a family (2 adults, 2 young kids) for 3 nights in June in a two room apartment.
We were a bit surprised after our airport bus deposited us at the bus depot, telling us that 'we don't drop people off that far!' that we had to catch a taxi. However the apartments are in a nice part of town- close to the Art Gallery of Victoria (Monet was in town) on the St Kilda Road, and actually the location was far better than other Melbourne hotels we've stayed in as it's situated opposite a very regular tram stop, taking only 5 mins into the city.
Beds were very comfortable, and the kitchen was reasonably well-equipped.
Air-conditioning worked nicely in heating the room during a cold and rainy snap.
Yet the thing which bothered us was the very close proximity of the living room to an office block opposite- so close in fact I could read some of the emails on their computer screens! Given the price we payed, I was very disappointed. The effect was of living in a goldfish bowl- we were staying during the working week as well as the weekend, so by kids found it disconcerting to be stared at by office workers during our time there. This obviously rather restricted our behaviour, so the usual slobby things we all do on holidays- walking around in our underpants, etc, were severely curtailed!
We were staying on the 3rd floor, maybe some of the higher floors are better as they may even look out onto the War Memorial opposite, but I cannot speak from experience.
There were a few groovy cafes next door which we availed ourselves of for breakfast, only to be thwarted on the weekend as the places only seemed to open during the working week. Indeed, the whole area became quite desolate after Friday.
The reception staff were lovely and helpful, marred somewhat by billing my credit card twice, which I only found by checking my statements, although this was quickly rectified.
On the whole, I'm not sure we would stay there again due to the somewhat steeper price charged, as well as the whole goldfish bowl element.
