Red Petite is one of many Thai restaurants in South Melbourne, and we found it to be better value and tastier food than the others we tried. It does a lot of take away, but has some tables and window seats inside and a few tables on the footpath with a pleasant view of heritage buildings in the Emerald Hill precinct. We loved their version of phat thai and the green curry with flat noodles (khanom ciin kiauw waan), and went back the next night for massaman curry. This is a simple and friendly place without the pretension often found in Thai restaurants; mains are about $15. They're fully licensed and open 7 days from 5 to 10 pm; we didn't try the more limited lunch menu.
