“Great Stay at Om Sai”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2010

We had a great stay at Om Sai for 6 nights during the first week of April. The huts are clean which was extremely important for my partner and I. The huts are reasonably priced (around 700 INR in low season) and the Service was efficient and friendly. Would definitely recommend a stay at Om Sai during during your time in Goa

My husband and I have just returned from our honeymoon in Agonda. We decided to book Om Sai after reading all the glowing reviews on this website and it turned out to be a lovely, chilled out beach holiday.

As promised by email in advance, Guarav the owner arranged for a taxi driver to meet us at the airport and after a hair raising car journey (there’s no such thing as a non hair raising car journey in India), two hours later we were given a warm welcome by Guarav and his trusty assistant 22-year-old assistant Nilesh, who takes care of the day to day running of the huts.

We had booked one of the full sea view huts which are worth paying a bit extra for as the views are gorgeous and despite our jet lag we instantly loved it. We instantly loved Nilesh too – with his delightful smile and friendly manner, it was easy to see why he’s now world famous… Guarav has found a real diamond. Straight away Nilesh assured us that he’d be around to look after us and to call him any time of the day or night if we needed anything. It made us feel right at home.

The huts themselves are made of bamboo and raised off the ground. They are definitely better built than most of the other bamboo huts we saw on Agonda. Ok they are not 5 star luxury – they are pretty basic and a little bit dark inside, but perfectly adequate. There’s a double bed with mosquito net, ceiling fan, lockable dresser and hooks to hang your clothes on. There are two electric lights and a plug. The bathrooms are tiled and are a decent size and toilet was fine. The shower has hot and cold water but we certainly didn’t need the hot shower. It was sweltering!

Agonda Beach is stunning and unspoilt and we loved the chilled out, hippie vibe. We spent a blissful two weeks sunbathing, reading and wandering between a few different beach cafes. Unfortunately Om Sai does not have its own restaurant or bar, but there is a bar next door where you can pick up drinks and Nilesh often offered to go and get them for us. (Shanti is a two minute walk up the beach and does the best food and cocktails in Agonda although Madhu, a bit further along, is also good).

What really made our holiday at Om Sai special and memorable was Nilesh. He simply could not do enough for us. Nothing was too much trouble. He cleaned the hut as often as we wanted, swapped our towels, always with a bright, beaming smile. When my husband needed to see a doctor, Nilesh sprinted up the road to find us a cab, negotiated a good price for us and accompanied us to the doctor’s and back. He’s a one in a million and we’ll really miss him. All in all Om Sai was a lovely experience. If you want a laid back Indian beach holiday with lots of sunshine and warm Goan hospitality, you won’t do much better

We stayed a week at Om Sai Guest House Palolem, and the owner Guarav offered us to spend two nights at his beach huts in Agonda. I’ve never stayed in a beach hut before, and it came as a nice surprise, how spacious and comfortable the huts were. They are well-built, lockable, safe stractures, we didn’t have a second thought about leaving our valuables inside. The manager, Nilesh was very friendly, and helpful, we always felt well looked after. He was around at all times, keeping an eye on the place, making sure that it was always clean and tidy. Agonda beach is stunning and very peaceful, more quiet than Palolem, a perfect place for an unforgettable holiday. We would definitely stay here again!!!

I was lucky to get a good price because I was staying for 6 days after lengthy travels in India.I don't really like Goa but I wanted a beach and peace and quiet which is what I got.The young lad Nilesh was amazing always asking how you are,if you need anything and always there and always cleaning to keep the place in good shape he even switches on your porch light if you get back in the dark. The beds were very comfortable and clean ,the huts had tiled floors with what you'd expect toilet and washing facilities which was perfectly fine.It was quiet at night and if there was noisy other patrons Nilesh would give them a quiet word.A bit like camping lovely little huts with plenty of room.I have lived in other beach huts which are too close together and have damp mattresses with bed mites and local wildlife and insects that bother you at night but not at Om Sai as close to luxury as you will get with a fan and mosquito nets and I didn't get bit once here!

I spent the second time in the Om Sai Beach huts and once again it was a great time. The huts by itself were updated. The complaints about the unmotivated guy in the guesthouse shouldn´t come anymore, the new guy Nelish is a nice and helpful guy. Good organisation regarding shuttle transfer from/to Airport. Thanx again, Gourav

I stayed at Om Sai for a month. During this time I surveyed lots of the hut clusters on Agonda and have to say Om Sai comes out top on several counts:
1. Service. The manager Nilish (age 22) is one of the nicest, most conscientious people I have ever met.
2. Cleanliness. Om Sai is swept every day, bins emptied, footbaths replenished, litter removed. Huts cleaned, sheets and towels changed on request.
3. Hot showers -- well warm. Makes a big difference and is virtually unique on Agonda. I inspected the super posh huts at Turtle Lounge, which are a triumph of style (faux Japanese) over practicality. Cold shower and rock hard bed. At 6,500 Rs a night they are grossly over-priced compared with Om Sai at between 1,000 - 750 .
4. Comfy beds. Gaurav the owner listens to criticism (very rare attribute in India) so for 2010 he installed extra layers of foam mattress on top of the hard ones that are virtually 100% elsewhere.
Downsides -- NOISE! The dogs at night and the crows in the morning. The huts are close together, so inconsiderate guests who play music and/or have loud mobile conversations in the wee small hours disturb the entire complex. The Gratitude Restaurant next door can be noisy at night too. Lack of privacy -- the locals are lovely people but instensely soapy in their social relations. Everything you do is observed and gossiped ad nauseam. Some tourists see themselves as Eastender stars as well. Would I go again? Probably not, because with perseverence it is possible to find comfort and privacy on Agonda -- mostly at the south end of the beach.

Om Sai Beach Huts is a perfect place for two to enjoy the sun and listen to the sound of waves in the night…
Nilesh, who runs the place, is very helpful and the boss Gaurav is welcoming too.
Agonda beach is quiet and much less busy, than Palolem.
I and my friend Ania stayed for 4 days at Om Sai in February 2010 and it was excellent rest at the end of our trip to North India.
Highly recommended.
