“A lovely place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2013

We are just back from an 8 day stay at this lovely hotel which is perfectly located for exploring the area and also gives easy access for day trips to three islands! This family run hotel is comfortable and spotlessly clean, with the rooms serviced every day. Breakfast is not included, but is very reasonable and served either in the dining room or across the street under the sun umbrellas. Bread, jam, cheese, tea, coffee, homemade 5 fruit marmalade, cake and freshly squeezed orange juice - delicious! The harbour is just across the street with tavernas and bars very close by and a few shops for essentials. The family always have time for a chat (they speak very good English) and are so friendly - we were even given a gift to bring back home with us - herbs, olives and homemade marmalade. We stayed in a top-floor, front facing room which gave the most amazing views of the sunrise - when we woke up early enough to experience it! We certainly hope to return to the Christina Hotel before too long.

Room Tip: Upper floor, front facing rooms are lovely

We have visited Hotel Christina for six years in a row, normally as part of a tour of the Peloponnese. Why do we return? It is because of the welcome we receive from the lovely family who run the place with great care and pride. The rooms (especially those overlooking the port) and spotless and comfortable with spacious bathrooms. All the food served is so tasty but breakfasts are especially worth a mention with Christina's cake and orange jam a special treat. The village is well situated to visit the major site of Epidavros but it has its own small theatre which is well worth a visit. Nafplio is not far away and other pleasant excursions, such as a visit to Poros in the south of the region, are easily made. There is a choice of beaches within walking distance and the village itself has plenty restaurants. It is the warmth of the hospitality of the Christina family that is, however, the unforgettable part of any visit. Super!

Room Tip: A room facing the sea is delightful to waken up to!

My daughter and I were staying in Epidavros as we'd been invited to a party locally. We couldn't have been happier with the Christina Hotel, both its location and the very helpful and friendly owners. We didn't have a car, but were given a free ride up to the Big Theatre to ensure we didn't miss out on visiting this most interesting archaeological site (the bus service in the area is pretty limited) - just one example of the help we were given, particularly from George, who speaks excellent English and has a great sense of humour. Everyone in this small town was so welcoming and gentle in their approach to visitors that we will definitely want to go back again - a very special place.

Room Tip: Make sure to book a room with a balcony facing the sea front - wonderful views

When there's a big performance on at Epidauros, the ministry sometimes puts actors up here, which can be fun for other guests too. Comfortable rooms, excellent breakfast. Christina's quite right to be proud of her cooking.

No problem parking. Friendly, helpful people who speak good English.

(Besides the big theatre up the road at Epidaurus, there's a small one here by the sea, where they sometimes do plays too. It's on the headland to the south of the town, in easy walking distance.)

In this hotel you will find the real Greece: authenticity, kindness and true hospitality (in Greek 'filoxenia'). The hotel is maintained and cleaned like your own home. The homemade marmelade and the orange cakes are simply delicious. To sum up : you absolutely have to stay at this marvelous hotel when you are out to discover the beautiful archaeological sites in Argolida (Mycenes, Corinthos, Epidavros, Palamidi-Nauplio, ....)

Lovely, simple, spotlessly clean and in an excellent location. If you are looking for a family hotel in a small town within a shortish drive of the Theatre this is it. Relaxing atmosphere, we had a lovely view of the port.

The Christina hotel in Palea Epidavros (somewhat cotroversially re-named Ancient Epidavros) is kept immaculately clean, the rooms are comfortable and air conditioned, and the lift always works too. Our favourite rooms are at the front of the hotel with views toward the sea from the balcony, though sitting there in the gloaming with a jug of chilled house wine watching the activity in the taverns below is quite a pleasant end to a day too.
Christina and her two sons, who run the hotel, are always friendly and helpful, and also speak English. And Christina's two tall and handsome grandsons are also now involved. This truly is a family business.
The town is an excellent base for a number of archaeological sites - from the massive theatre and sanctuary at Epidavros ( a convenient bus runs from the town when there is a performance) to the lonely atmospheric Troizen to the south. The more sophisticated Nauplion is within easy reach by car, as are the Mycenean sites of Tiryns and Mycenae.
Palea town has a lot of small friendly shops, a good town beach, and enough tavernas
to give a choice of food. The small ancient theatre houses live performances too. Live Greek music on a balmy evening under the stars is a happy memory.
But then the food in the Christina is good and freshly made - breakfast was always a pleasant start to the day with strong coffee and home made marmalade.
Small wonder that we've been back there so many times. A good place to stay.
