We walked from Tolmin up to the gorge. We followed directions we were given so we didnt think it was that well marked and it felt like a little like we were walking through someone's fields but dont think we went the main way!!
Anyway when we got there it was worth the walk!! The valley is lovely and you can do an easy enough walk up to the Devils pass and down the other side and along the floor of the gorge. We really enjoyed the scenery! One word of warning, you can go up to Dante's Cave but you shouldnt go in without a guide. 2 of our group had a look in but it was pitch black and very slippy so they turned back!
But well worth the walk up to enjoy some lovely scenery.
Extra info: It was about €4 entry to the national park. Round trip from Tolmin around the main parts of the gorge and back to Tolmin was about 2-3 hours. There was a sign for a cafe up near Dante's Cave but we didnt go that far
