My house in Italy is in the hills about 15 minutes from Borgo a Mozzano. If you are headed into the Garfagnana National park arriving from Lucca up the Serchio valley, this is perfect - right on the main road with a little parkong area to the front, just before the roundabout you have been waiting for that tells you that you're in Borgo Mozzano.Look out for it about 5 mins further on from Diecomo, still on the main road out of Lucca. The staff are very friendly and accomodating. I felt I was not being ripped off, but rather a friend of the family that had just dropped by! For example: You ask for a quartino of the house wine (quarter litre, and you get a half litre - just use what you want! I know I drank more than a quartino, but I was only charged for the quartino! Next came the most unusual dishes, homely for us northern europeans, (It was late October, the night before Halloween), and I just didn't feel like salads and healthy, but what I got was a lovely mixture of healthy and comfort - a beautifully cooked trout with peppers, capers and really thinly sliced fried potatoes, really delicious! Needless to say I now go there at least once every time I go to Italy ( about every 6 weeks), and even severe floodsone night in january didn't deter me from leaving my cosy fire and venturing out, making the journey down the valley to one of the best places in Tuscany, Colto e Mangiato!
ps - Take home a couple of bottles of their house wine for a few quid (their own label), and the evening is complete!
