“Recommended hostel in La Quiaca”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013

Most travelers are passing through La Quiaca, so there is a high turnover, and it's unlikely that you will be wanting to stay for long. Despite this, the staff we met were very friendly, the kitchen was warm and welcoming, and made plenty of cooking items available for use. The hostel was quiet, with good self-contained rooms, a pleasant communal area and good value - what more could you ask!

When compared to other places in this area this hostel is very good, as it has facilities you won't find in many other places here, such as wifi. I much prefer to stay here than in the hostals in villazon. It is clean, cheap, the owner are just wonderful and the whole hostel is nicely decorated. .....oh and don't let the outside scare you, the are in the progress of building anther section, thus the first impression is not good.
Furthermore, the hostel offers cooking facilities and laundry services..........yay finally clean clothes after three weeks on the road :-)
It is very easy to get here from the bus terminal, I took a cab and it cost me just 8 persos :-)

We stayed here one night before going to Bolivia. If you arrive from Bolivia this place will probably look very good to you. Compared to other hostels in Argentina however, it is pretty basic. Dont expect much- just a good nights sleep- and you cant expect much more in La Quiaca. Dont be put off by the exterior- they are refurbishing and inside it is nice.

The Good:
- Walkable distance from busterminal and the border.
- Clean basic rooms
- Beds are comfy and sheets looked clean.
- There is a heater in the room but it doesnt do a lot. But with the blankets its fine.
- Shared bathrooms were cleanish, and the water is really hot.
- Equipped kitchen that you can use, though we didnt. Probably a good idea- the food isnt that great in this village, especially not for two vegetarians. There are no supermarkets here, just small grocerie stores and the market. So if you want, say oatmeal for breakfast, bring it from Salta.
- Cheap. We paid 100 pesos for a double room. Probably one of the cheapest doubles we have stayed in the last 2,5 months in Argentina.

The Bad:
- Wifi is pretty irregular, but that is probably most of the town.
- Breakfast isnt included (10 pesos/per if you want it) and not great: nescafé, and some hard bread with butter and jam. Probably better to make your own if you can.

We arrived in quianca after an overnight bus trip. Taxi to the hostel and first impressions this is a building sight. At 0700 that's not what you want, but once inside our room was ready although not a lot of English spoken the young lady showed us the shared bathroom and a well equipped kitchen. The room was clean with tv and wifi very comfortable bed. For £7.50 each for private room, we both thought it was great value, it is a short cheap taxi to the boarder with Bolivia. Once the building work is finished it will be a sizeable hostel with en suite rooms. Thoroughly recommended
