This hilltop village is a great staging post for the ordeal of Ephesus in the plain below, and for sites like Miletus, Priene and Mary's house farther afield. Its a warren of stylishly decorated rooms and gardens stretching up a hillside in houses typical of the village's Ottoman style. A bit tough if your knees are not what they used to be. The food is "nouvelle Turk" and always interesting, but the tables in the dining room are close together and the chances are that English will be spoken next door. A wander round the village in the late afternoon can be fun - look out for the leather man. He's got some beautiful soft kid bags/wallets etc.
