“makes Versaille look like the poor cousin's house”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

Every room outdoes the last, it is truly opulent. In some ways it makes Versaille look like the poor cousin's house. Luckily we had a very skilled tour guide so we were able to line jump. The line seemed quite long. the history of the palace is interesting, including it being used as a Nazi headquarters, and then, of course, they destroyed it before leaving. there are some photos of how it looked
The amber room is crazy, it is rebuilt and no one knows where the original is. No pictures allowed in there. booties provided to protect the floor.
It is about 45 minutes from St Petersburg, I would recommend going with a guide, we really liked SPB tours.

“Incredible”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

This is not all original but the craftsmanship in the restoration will leave you dumbstruck. Leave plenty of time to visit and if you can get a local guide to take you (Tourslocal I can highly recommend) to get the best out of this and Peterhof.

“Lovely Palace A Must See”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

Last time we were here we toured Peterhof. This palace is equally impressive even though the grounds are different. Be prepared to spend up to two hours to take in the rooms and the gardens. We especially enjoyed the amber room - it is impressive so plan to spend a few extra minutes here. There are toilets in the entrance and at the exit. There are a number of gift shops as you exit. They sell food and refreshments at various kiosks throughout the garden so you don't need to carry water. They take Euros and Rubles.
