This is actually one of the nicest places to stay in Tacloban, but it is not all that great. The place is extremely overpriced for the room you get. I found a place that was nicer outside of the town of Tacloban and tried to get my deposit back but they refused. The customer service here was poor. Later I found they over charged me for the room.

On their website it mentions free breakfast. The next morning we had to pay for the breakfast buffet that was supposed to be free. My friend who was with me knew some one who worked here and even she was disappointed in the place.

There are some good things about this place. The view is gorgeous. The nightlife for the youth in Tacloban happens to be at the base of resort. The food here was not bad at all.

If you want a good place to stay I would recommend going outside of Tacloban where you can find places that are nice for a fraction of the price.

Room Tip: Demand to inspect your room first. There are newly renovated rooms and non renovated rooms.

This was once the only five star hotel in the area and the best but it has been poorly maintained that even the room where the former Philippine president Joseph Estrada stayed is not desirable anymore. A lot of mosquitos inside the rooms and even in the lobby, a sign that they do not perform regular fumigation. And besides it has a bit expensive, unreasonable rates! For what? For the below-average pool? Can someone save this place?! This is not good for business travelers especially for those foreigners.

The only good thing is its location near the 6500 area of eclectic, funky bars and fancy restaurants of which the area is managed by the family of the hotel owner.

I have been to Tacloban many, many times and used LPR for extended stays and know a lot about this resort. If you are not Filipino and are travelling to Tacloban from the West, you are probably either travelling with or hooking up with a local female in which case LPR is your best bet for the clean air and quiet location despite its flaws. Although it is a neglected, crumbling shell of its former self, this is the ONLY RESORT in the area- otherwise you will be staying in the smog and noise of the downtown. The pool is nice and the resort is frequently very quiet. Check out their long playing musician Linda David in the evenings- you can’t miss her voice.

STRONG SUGGESTIONS:

EXAMINE all rooms before accepting them- Many rooms have ants, broken AC units, non working toilet, close to construction noise, etc. They may offer the bad rooms first hoping you won’t complain. Complain. Ask questions and examine closely before accepting a room. I settled on room #304 after looking around- try to take this one. Make sure they include a fridge and hotpot.

DO NOT EAT at the Veranda Café within the LPR. Bad food, bad atmosphere and service terrible. In fact, avoid the LPR completely for food- you may want to plug in and fill up the room fridge to avoid unnecessary food & beverage costs.

EAT at the Pier Tres (formerly Floating Restaurant). This is located on the water a short walk within the LPR grounds. Fresh fish & great atmosphere. Get the Lapu-Lapu served sweet & sour. Open for breakfast. Great place.

PARTY at the Barco or Club 65 Hundred- Also a close walk from the LPR. There are numerous small bars and eating places recently built close to the grounds for live music & karaoke- Check them out!

SHOP at the Robenson's mall in Tacloban. It is newer, better and has a movie theatre. The Guisano Mall is run down and a big drag.

DO NOT use hotel transportation when looking to depart LPR- overpriced. Grab a trike and negotiate a price before getting in. Repeat this price to avoid any misunderstanding. You should not pay more than 50 pesos for most destinations within Tacloban.

DO NOT rely on the staff at LPR. Front desk is OK but most others speak little English and seem stupid and easily confused. Even simple requests will probably have to be repeated.

PAY for your room with a credit card. They have stopped the 3% surcharge and you get the best exchange rate.

EXPLORE- Take the reasonably priced excursions to the local islands offered at the travel office in the front lobby. Worth it.

Room Tip: Get room 304

Look nice on photos BUT you will be suprise when you get there.
We reserve a room day before,When we arrive room is not ready we need to stay temporary at the cottage and move when the room we reserve is ready. The room we have is very terrible no fridge, aircon not very cold and too noisy,If you want coffee early in the morning you cant make it coz they dont have kettle.I rang the reception for kettle or hotwater. Bellboy came and bring 1 jug of cold water.instead of hotwater. It takes an hour after hotwater delivered. Its too late coz we have to go out by 7am to attend my friends wedding.

Room Tip: I think no good room to choose.Sorry..

When i first visited the Philippines some years ago and particuarly Tacloban, Leyte Park Hotel, was the place to stay. It was a sad failing Grand damme then and sadly will slowly be sinking into its own mire fairly shortly. I will not mention the poor service, the bell boy who got lost and i had to show the way to or the various creatures that inhabited the building; but i will mention the fridge in our room that didnt work, the tea and coffee that was provided, but no kettle and the door to the verandah that wouldnt lock. MaybIts a e also i will mention the blocked toilets in the pool area, the urinals that were full of urine, that wouldnt flush and the bare electrical wires where the switches should have been. If you feel suicidal.....this is the place to visit.
But the pool is still nice and the staff at the pool area actually seemed attentive. Use the pool.....there is a charge of 150 php per head, but for heavens sake stay elsewhere.
Its a sad Hotel now, there are new buildings at the front of the complex and new bars and i do really hope that one day this Grand old Hotel will rise from its ashes, because Tacloban itself deserves much better.

Room Tip: The only room to have is a Pool Villa. 10,000 php per night

The resort provides an option depending on the budget that you have. One thing that will really make you go back to this place is eating at Pier Tres. It's a must try destination if you want to have a great dinner.

Room Tip: Don't go for Studio rooms...Go for bigger rooms because it's value for your money.
