“A pleasant surprise.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

We came upon the NH Marquette quite by chance and were pleasantly surprized at what a nice place it was! Set in it's own grounds it is accessed by a lane that also leads to a chateau with plenty of wildlife to be seen.
This was not a modern trendy hotel, more a very genteel place with a lot of old world charm.
There was hot fesh coffee in the lobby, friendly staff and bicycle hire all readily available.
The room was plenty large enough with comfortable furnishing and the only real complaint was the televison was clumpy, out dated and only recived two chanels and the staircase carpet could do with a bit of a clean. Over all a very good value for money place to stay.
This hotel was in very easy cycling distance of the local town which had a nice selection of shops and friendly locals.
Definately a hotel we would stay at again.

Dont even dream to stay in this hotel if you are not with a car. the entrance to the hotel premises is dark without any olight for hundreds of meters and it is very scary because you can be run over by a passing car, be attacked by an animal or can fall till you arrive to the first light in the path. you dont see the Nh flag in the dardkness and not the rose ballon (ridiculous) on the sign. They balme on the village authorities but they endanger their guests and the liability in on them! If they cant light their premises which is in a forest they should not build the hotel! Moreover, they charge city tax although it is 40 km out of the city of Amsterdam.which is outragious, It is very expensive to eat there breakfast and nobody was in their dinning room. It is very expensive to go from there to amsterdam It cost 2.90 euro to travel to next village from there you pay 5.50 euro for each person till the central station in AMSTERDAM. for a couple it is 27 euro a day adding the hotel cost you can book with this sum of money a room in central amsterdam. the nh customers quality contrul are rude and didnt offer any kind of compensation to my complaints.

After a long day in Amsterdam it was very relaxing to come back to this hotel.
We stayed in 4 hotels during our trip to The Netherlands, and the room in this hotel was the largest.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was large and clean and there were no parking problems. We had no meals in the hotel or in the castle's restaurant, so I cannot comment on the food.
We traveled by car so this hotel has been convenient for us.
The hotel is on the way from Alkmar to Haarlem, and it took half an hour drive to Amsterdam (including parking on a P+R parking - very convenient option if you have a car and want to visit Amsterdam).
The hotel itself is located at a very beautiful place (the castle and it surroundings) and we enjoyed very much walking around.

Room Tip: There is no lift, so if you have problems with climbing to the second floor with luggage ask for a r...

Living in a busy part of a town we were delighted with the peace at the hotel and the nature reserve surrounding it. Extremely friendly and helpful staff, which was required since we were caring for a four month old baby.
Breakfast is a treat, dinner at the Chateau was wonderful, but lunch opportunities are limited.

Good hotel, nice and comfortable rooms, great area, splendid service: go to this hotel!
our arrival was late, but the hotel did everything to make us feel welcome and satisfied when we asked for some food and help with internet access.
Also the area of the hotel is peaceful and the rooms - once again - are bright and comfortable

Room Tip: i had a room with a balcony: you might want to be sure to have on too

This hotel advertised itself as 'within Amsterdam' and on. Their details stated that they were 1km from the 'city centre.' as city tax is very expensive per night I booked this as it seemed too good to be true! It WAS! It was less than 1km from Heemskerk which is NOT even a city and turne out to be a largely sleepy town with the exception of one grad cafe in the centre. There was no restaurant in the actual hotel as despite staing that they served tapas at their brasserie I did not see a menu or anything at any stage which was ridiculous in a hotel! They offered evening meals in the 'castle' which is heavily featured on their website yet has very little to do with the hotel and therefore misrepresentative. Although they offered to book a table in the restaurant, there was nobody eating in it and it did not look like somewhere to have a basic meal. The hotel was quiet and there was no Craic in the bar in the night time:no music,no offers and no guests!!! Often no till-they had done the money and u had to put it on ur room tab!although the hotel boasts a tennis court, while we were staying there seemed to be a scout group using all courts from 9am to 11pm on floodlit court. To get to the city of Amsterdam you had to get a bus to Castricum station and then a train into central station which often took us more than an hour to get home to the hotel as the buses only ran twice and hour and once after 7 so it was hard to stay late in the city for fear of being stranded in Castricum waiting for a bus. On the plus side it was 10 euro to
Hire a bike and use the cycle
Paths all day and it was 15 mins
From a gorgeous beach on the bus which I would recommend. It's not the hotel to visit Amsterdam From as it is badly represented on their websites and isn't clear about the exact location or services offered. I don't know who they cater or or who would intentionally stay here! It's in the middle of nowhere and isn't a good base to explore the province from-there was no food except mini bar snacks at 2euros for a small bag of M and Ms!

We have never heard of NH chain hotel before and we chosed this hotel because we wanted to have accommodation that is close to our destination ( Amsterdam, Edam and Volendam ). And we should say that this 'cold call' was really fortunate. The hotel is located only around 20 minutes ( by car ) from Amsterdam and 10 minutes from Volendam. Located in the quiet village of Heemskerk, and within a little woods. Its really isolated but it was good, especially after the hustle bustle of Amsterdam. And its close to the beach !! When you look at their pictures in the internet, please be warned ahead that the part where the guest sleep is NOT the castle. The castle is located very close and they do serve dinner for the hotel guest. But the hotel itself is not bad at all. The receptionists were not the 'American friendly' kind of people but they were efficient and responsive and they speak very good english ( just like most of Dutch !! ). The room is clean, and when we got in the room, they already provided us with the extra pillow I requested earlier. Its a big bed consists of 2 single bed put together, but its soft and comfortable. Ample space for luggage and clothes, they provide teal/coffee maker and the empty fridge where we can store our own drinks. Very handy !! The bathroom was also big and clean. There is a little terrace facing the quiet residence street. The parking space is enough for 30 cars, and even if you don't get the parking space, you can always park along the drive way of the Hotel. There is a table next to the reception desk where they provide 'coffee to go' in the morning, and its free !! When we booked it thru internet, the rate was still 69 Euro per night, but a few days later when I checked, its already 89 Euro !! Lucky I confirmed the booking earlier. I guess because its approaching peak time ( we were there from 26 June to 28 June, 2012 ) the price went up and changed every day ! For the hotel of its class, its a good choice !!
