“A Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

This is the second time I've stayed this hotel and I cannot praise it too highly. Certainly no more expensive than other hotels of it's class in Almere, the rooms are very clean and tidy and well decorated. The girls on reception are beautiful, friendly and helpful. In the restaurant the food is of excellent quality and the waiters and waitresses are attentive and cheerful. I don't usually tip these days, but I do here. Six stars out if five!

Room Tip: Call the hotel directly; ask for a canal-side room.

I’ve stayed here about 5 times over the past few year and really like it.

The rooms are massive and have everything you need including a double ended bath bigger than my house!

The bar and restaurant are superb.

There is good gym and excellent Pool.

Slight down sides are;
* The reception can be a little slow and answer phone calls over you?
* I waited like a lemon for a table in the restaurant at the welcome desk, no one came, I then loitered in the middle of the restaurant, no one came, i then sat down and was told to move as I couldn’t sit alone at a window, I moved then no one came for ages.
* Last time i went there was dirty food service trays in the hall ways for about 36hrs.

I keep returning but now eat at the golden huis over the road.

Room Tip: Take your swimming stuff and enjoy a beer in the bar.

We stayed here for 1 night and had a blast! The hotel is brand new and is very comfortable! Our room was huge... with a very large bathroom (both bath and shower). We travel a lot and for the price we paid, this is a great value for the money! Breakfast is very nice, but there are lines at the coffeemachine which could be annoying in the morning ;-) Poolarea is very nice... Can't wait to go back!

Very spacious (all facilities).
Very helpful staff – ask for whatever you want.
Without a vehicle it is a bit far from Amsterdam but is accomodatable to getting to Amsterdam Centrum in approx. 1 hour by bus & train.
The hotel itself could not be faulted (we had car).

This is a great find if you are visiting the Amsterdam region and don't mind the extra travel. A car is a must - no mistakes - but the hotel has great freeway links and if planning a day trip to Amsterdam, there are a number of Park + Ride or rail options within a 20 minute journey (much cheaper than trying to park in the city). The hotel offers free parking, large and spacious rooms each with modern fittings and furnishings, a bathroom with large shower and large bath, flat screen TV, kettle, good hanging space and options for temperature control. Extra bonus is a good size indoor swimming pool and a gym.

Breakfast provided a huge amount of variety, for different tastes and of a high quality, but look for the deals for it being inclusive in the price, otherwise it will set you back €13.50 each. There are limited cafe options nearby, so give it some thought. We ate dinner on one occasion and it was reasonably priced (not cheap, but not as inflated as other hotels) and the food was first rate, so it did not disappoint. Something to note is that every meal is also served with a tasting platter compliments of the hotel (with fries, potatoes and cauliflower/broccoli) so you might not actually need to order any more sides. Just double check with the waitress.

The service from the team at Reception and the Restaurant was very good. Always helpful, smiling and friendly. Language was not a barrier and everyone spoke very good English (which is great considering our Dutch is non-existant!). We asked for local information and there were plenty of good suggestions (for an evening meal check out Almere Haven and eat at Havenkom, with great ice cream afterwards at Mariolas).

Only some small comments for suggested improvements, but no deal breakers:
- for coffee/tea in room, first night paper cups were provided, then next 2 nights, plastic cups. Neither are really useful or suitable for a 4 star hotel.
- no tissues in the room, which would be a simple and nice addition.
- a couple of extra (full size) towels in the room for use at the pool would be great.
- pricing was a bit strange - great cheap deals across the weekend, but a more expensive Monday night stay (so look at different combination of prices if searching online)

Overall we had a pleasant experience at the Van Der Valk in Almere and if coming to the region again, with a car, we would strongly consider staying here again; and happy to recommend to others seeking a similar adventure.

Room Tip: Choices of a car park or lake view. Only 4 floors high, so level 3 or 4 a good choice without too m...

This was a really nice experience in every respect. The hotel is located in Almere, about 30 minutes by car from Amsterdam Schiphol airport (where I had to go the next morning). Free parking directly in front of the hotel. The check-in was fast and staff very friendly. The rooms are very spacious, nicely designed, with a large bathroom featuring separate bathtub and shower, perfectly clean, flatscreen TV and complimentary WIFI. The included breakfast was great and had plenty of choices. I did not get out in the evening, but I saw some restaurants in walking distance and a park with some lakes behind the hotel. Should also be easy to get to Amsterdam, but I did not go. Check-out the next morning was without any problem, fast and friendly. I must really say that this hotel was well beyond my expectation and a very pleasant experience, very good value for the money!!

It's always a disappointment to travel to a great city (Amsterdam) yet know that you'll be around 40min outside it and therefore out of reach !! It was therefore an unexpected surprise to find this very pleasant hotel within the modern, somewhat sanitised town that is Almere. Even the hotel from the outside looks like a "motel"; but as soon as you enter, you meet cool soft furnishings and a very modern interior. Plush purple sofas, candel light, subtle modern fireplaces, and a lovely bar by the water's edge. The hotel also boasts a small gym and a very warm indoor pool (regrettably which was out of order when I was there). The rooms are very spacious and very quiet. And the food is good. A very nice stay if you HAVE to be in Almere. Be warned - room service only available if you are staying in a suite - unless you plead (which I did !)

Room Tip: Haggle an upgrade to the duluxe / executive rooms on the first floor; and get one facing the water.
