We were on a short city break and chose the hotel believing it to be a modern hotel central to the town. It was all of those things and the room was comfortable and serviced by very friendly cleaning staff. BUT... the door to the rooms should have had a security lock on and this was broken meaning that anyone who entered the hotel could access the landings to the rooms. On the first two days, the receptionist was at the front desk so it felt safe however, on the last two days, at various times of the day and night, the reception desk was unmanned and the place was not secure. Being in the town centre, there were people around and anyone could have walked in. Worse still, we walked along the first floor where all the rooms are located only to come across an entire series ofmissing window panes/panels and I mean entire! If I had children with me, I would have signed out immediately as it posed a significant danger both for someone falling but also someone again entering the hotel up the fire escape stairs and coming in through the vast area that should have been filled with glass.
I notified the receptionist immediately who said that the panes had been missing for some time and she didn't know when it would be replaced. That is something I'd maybe expect to see in a developing country, not Holland! I'm still in disbelief that health and safety concerns regarding this were clearly ignored.
If you can overlook such a hazard, you might actually enjoy everything else about the hotel. It's cheap, friendly and does what it says BUT unless they've repaired the missing glass panels, addressed the absent receptionist issues and repaired the security lock access to rooms, there's absolutely NO way I'd stay there again.
