The Hotel East Lagoon is by far one of the best hotel in Batticaloa town I have ever been to! The accommodations are pretty standard but definitely lives up to the 3*** star rating rooms were clean and we'll maintained. The staff, from the housekeeping, to the front office, to the servers and chefs were all so friendly and always willing to go out of their way to please you, accompanied with a smile. The most important thing for me was the food! This was my first trip to hotel east lagoon. I was strongly recommend to anyone and will definitely go back again in august 2014....

We had a great stay at Hotel East Lagoon. The Hotel was large but had lots of different areas to enjoy - we went for relaxation so greatly enjoyed the quiet pool. The food was excellent from the restaurant to the a la crates. Staff were extremely friendly, personable and would do everything to make your stay a fabulous one. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfy. A nice small town a 10 minute drive was a treat, lots of options for great food if you wanted. The grounds were mature with lots of plants, flowers. The lagoon was wonderful with beautiful view's, lots of chairs and shelters along the entire stretch. the lobby bar and a quiet pool. Well done all around. We wold go back again next year.

The hotel is new and superb. The facilities and the rooms are excellent. the foods were tasty. We only took BB basis rooms so we couldn't take a dinner there. the breakfast is short of choices they should have some varieties like western and Sri lankan. Best in Batticaloa you can find nice scenery surrounding the hotel. This is not a budget hotel, the prices too over priced. I really loved the place.

“ A wonderful vacation”

Hotel east lagoon is a great place to vacation. The rooms are comfortable, large and the view was fantastic overlooking the lagoon on both sides and Upon arrival, reception treated us promptly, courteously and with a great smile. We were given all we needed and a bellman helped us with our luggage to our room. Pushpan is the manager is a pleasure to deal with and ensures to make your stay as pleasurable/enjoyable as he can.
The pool look very big at first glance however it has proven to be a fair size. I love the lagoon so most of my time was spent on the lagoon which is phenomenal. The service staff at the hotel is wonderful as they continuously bring "refreshments" to you on the lagoon. Around the pool. The food choices are plentiful and there's something for everyone.
Overall, it was a great experience with above average service from the staff at reception, to the bartenders, servers, pool boys, gardeners and the cleaning staff (very clean resort, rooms , lobby and washrooms around the resort). I will definitely visit Hotel east lagoon again in the future!!

Batticaloa itself is not really on the tourist trail, unlike nearby Passikudah (or so Passikudah claims, anyway!) But having not been there for over 10 years, I thought it was time to revisit Batticaloa, and I'm glad I did, and that I stayed here. First thought - if you want Passikudah, then go there; don't look for a substitute in Batti!

Batti itself is fairly interesting without being thrilling, a trip on the network of lagoons is pleasant, and there are fine beaches. Well worth a couple of days, providing you've brought a book, and are prepared to relax. The hotel is very well situated, on what was an island, but was turned into a peninsular, and so there is lagoon on both sides. Fishermen are active in the mornings, and make an interesting backdrop to a pre-breakfast walk. The rooms were comfortable and fairly clean, with obliging staff ready to correct any problems. We never really tested the kitchen, but found what we tried to be acceptable, no more. However, we didn't really expect much more, and were very disappointed by a competitor, the Riviera, billed as a fine place to eat. Unfortunately, the only fish they could produce was frozen and thawed seer - the East Lagoon managed more than that!

At the price, it's a very reasonable hotel. It's main market is probably going to be internal tourists/expat Sri Lankans coming for a visit, rather than foreigners. But while we, 2 Western men, were there, they certainly did what they could to accommodate - including allowing a local friend of ours (we are resident in Sri Lanka) to bring curries cooked at home, and serving us rice to go with them. Few hotels would have been so accommodating.

Room Tip: We booked rooms with balconies but that wing was still being built. It will be finished during Oct...

Stayed here because The Riveria in Batticola was fully booked. East Lagoon looked nice until you realized nothing worked and they still haven't finished the hotel. The section we stayed in still had mattresses outside and there was dust everywhere. The rooms were nice inside but the fridges didn't work. The swimming pool was ok but there were already tiles coming off the bottom. Half the hotel is still under construction!

The food was terrible here, soup was too salty and the food was dry. We ordered some beers when we arrived and it took three hours to get some because they didn't have a license.

The waiters were nice and friendly and not their fault they had to serve such bad food.

We were going to stay two nights but very quickly realized that this place was awful so left as early as we could the net morning.

My advice is too finish your hotel first and everything in it, and get a liquor license so you can serve beer to tourists.

My family and I were forced to find other accommodations as it was peak season. The top of the line hotels in Passikudah were at full capacity so we stayed at Hotel East Lagoon for 2 nights until we could return. Arrival onto the hotel property is pleasant - there are little thatched huts lined up right against the lagoon where you can watch the horizon for the sunrise and the fisherman on their boats, stilts or wading through the water with nets trying to get their catch of the day. The hotel lobby is quite average and so are the rooms. They are clean and well kept but nothing too impressive. The decor and furniture seem cheaply made. There is a giant chandelier on the top floor but that's exactly the weird part about this hotel, they seem to have made an attempt for a "fancy" look on a dime. The common areas aren't air conditioned, which would be okay if it were better ventilated with open windows and such but it is just humid and stuffy without.

Same goes for the restaurant, there are ceiling fans but be prepared to work up a sweat while having your meal. We only had breakfast there and were not too impressed. They have a small selection of local breakfast dishes such as string hoppers, sambal and curries which run out pretty fast and have the waiters running back and forth trying to keep up. There was a small continental option consisting of toast, butter and spreads but that's it. You can order eggs but no sausage or bacon.

There is a small pool in between the two buildings of the hotel which looks alright but I didn't get a chance to try it out. Staff came off a bit cold and unfriendly, smile please! This hotel is okay for a short stay, and it is nicer than most hotels in the area but since it is only a couple months old, they still need to get on their feet and hopefully improve on what they offer and their service.
