“Amazing spot for divers to stop in sri lanka”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

So glad we found Deep Sea resort as it absolutely made our holiday!!!! the diving was great (better than trincomale), service amazing, great food and a brilliant ambiance to the resort! Felician and the team were great!!! I would totally recommend you seek this place out. It is a little tough to find but they are setting up new signs... you definitely want to stop here for a few dives. We planned to stay one night and stayed 3!!! We will be back (Nick and Jo, Australia)

We stayed here in transit on our way from Trinco to Polonnaruwa . The majority of people who come here come for scuba diving, specifically to explore the shipwreck HMS Hermes. As we were not diving we did feel the odd ones out. The place is family run, with only 6 bungalows so it has a very intimate feeling. The rooms are basic, with a/c , decent bathroom and very clean with comfy beds. Meals are taken on a common table in the dining shack which overlooks the lagoon. As non divers I doubt we would visit here again. However the guest book has many great reviews from divers about their experiences at the resort and the diving expertise provided.

The deep sea resort is a locally run small friendly hotel on the lagoon at Batticaloa, the home of the HMS Hermes wreck. The six rooms are all ensuite (large bathrooms), clean with aircon, beds are comfortable.

Food is great in the form of Sri Lankan spicy curries for lunch / dinner and bacon & eggs for breakfast (a good way to start your diving day!), although they also do BBQ /seafood. We were on a full board set menu package.

Feli and his team work very hard to ensure our stay worked out well and was very enjoyable, completing all the gas fills and carrying our very heavy kit to the boats for 2 technical dives a day. Feli can support both trimix and CCR diving as well as relaxing recreational dives on shallow wrecks & reefs. Feli is constantly trying to improve his resort and is very knowledgeable on the wrecks and very helpful.

If you need a comfortable local place in Batticaloa to relax or to do some exceptional wreck diving this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: There are only 6 rooms, all in a line and all fine.

It was an honor for us to have you here at the Deep Sea Resort. We admire your great diving skills. It will be our pleasure to have you here again. We will locate more world war wrecks.
We are just about to discover the wreck HMAS vampire the Australian destroyer.

Keep diving, and see you next year.

We were put into this hotal after our live-aboard boat sunk on us 1 week before our trip out to Sri-Lanka, i was somewhat hesitant and worried how the trip would work out but how wrong was I. We were given exceptional service from Feli and his team from the time we landed to when we departed. As Feli admitted its a work in progress and he works tirelessly to provide a top level of service to his customers. The hotel is comfortable with air-con in each of the rooms, which for me was a god send as the heat and humdity can be a bit uncomfortable until your used to it. We were all inclusive for our stay and enjoyed ome great local cooking form the chef, the food is hot and spicy and very very tasty. As for the diving, we were in good hands with Feli running around sorting our gas fills and the boat boys helping us with our equipment. They were excellent and always on hand to assist us. I have to say the diving on the HMS Hermes is worldclass and a complete gem of a wreck, i did 12 dives on her in 2 weeks and just wanted more and more. With a 20minute boat ride to site from the hotel everything was easy and quick and we were back at the hotel between each dive for a quick power nap between dives. Both the hotel and the HMS Hermes are firmly on my list of dive sites to return to.

We went snorkelling and diving with Felician and his team at Batticaloa today. He took us to the boiler wreck and the muslim rock site. The clarity of the water at both sites was fabulous. The wreck especially was a site to behold. The marine life that inhabits the wreck is amazing!! You will get to see schools of tropical fish, eels and lobsters. The muslim rock site had some lovely coral and marine life. I'd definitely recommend a trip to Batti over the other popular spots simply because it's gorgeous, unexplored area!!

We got to Batti 2 weeks after the floods. The road to the resort was washed away and had to be taken across the lagoon by boat which was a added value for our stay.
THe place is new with a great staff. I guess we were the largest, loudest and most demanding group that they had had 20 pax. They made provision to make all their rooms triples and was very comfortable. The toilets are clean Food was good. and we took our own Large screen projector and watched the opening of the world cup in the resturant which was a great venu.
Fillie and team were great looked after us well.
Please note this place is for folks with simple lifestyles who enjoy nature there are airconditioned clean rooms but dont expect luxary, the place is a dive school and near a famous wreak, Fillician is considered a authority on it.
Enjoy
