“Nice hotel - too far out of town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2009

Just come back from a weekend in Copenhagen with my wife (left the kids at home with the Grandparents - yey!!)

We really enjoyed our stay in Copenhagen - and the Avenue Hotel contributed to this in no small part - that is not to say it is perfect.

Lets start with the good points:

Staff - very congenial & helpful
Hotel lobby and bar - wow! Really nicely done out and presented - bar is open all night, it actually had some of the best beer prices (which are extortionate) in Copenhagen, could quite happily stay in bar all night, really cozy and relaxing with attentive service

Room - what they term A class, very roomy, a junior suite effectively, with nice decor and furnishings

Breakfast - included in price, hearty self service continental / smorgersbord - filled up in morning and pretty much did us all day

Now for the negatives:

There were a few things, the little details, in the hotel which let it down somewhat, things like:

Like lots of scuff marks on walls and even on window blinds(?) in the room

The towels in bathroom are v. small and a bit coarse

Grout in bathroom needs sorting

There are 2 sinks in bathroom, but one has no water pressure (just trickles out) - but shower was hot and powerful

There were no robes, nor stationery or even an iron in the room - all pretty much standard hotel fair, particularly for this supposed classification (and you get it in other hotels of this standard / price range)

Probably this might all sound a bit picky and it didnt effect our stay really. Fair enough - however, the biggest single issue for me, was location.

The Avenue is located in a pretty run down suburb (Its actual postal address is Fredericksberg, which is very nice, but the hotel is closer to Norrebro which we didnt find as pleasant).

The hotel is a good 20+ minute walk into the centre - you could, to be fair, catch a tube, but this only took you to outskirts of centre and didnt really save you any time. As such, you found a good portion of your morning and evenings was spent getting too and from places - not a problem if you can justify spending a lot on taxis (we thought the fares were steep).

No doubt this review makes it sound like we didn't rate Copenhagen or the hotel.

This isn't true, we thought (overall) Copenhagen was great - but make sure you bring lots and lots of money. Likewise, the hotel, for £320 for 2 nights, was good value and we enjoyed our stay - I would just find something more central next time.

The best part of this hotel is the lobby lounge. Its a great place to unwind after a day of meetings. There is no restaurant (except for breakfast) or room service at the hotel but you can get pizza and snacks in the lounge. My bedroom was incredibly and surprisingly small - I had been expecting a small room but this was really too much. Luckily I didn't spend much time in it. The hotel is in a good location with easy walking distance to Stroget. There's free wireless in the rooms and lounge. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I've stayed in three different hotels in Copenhagen within the last year and this was definitely the most enjoyable stay. If only the room had been bigger!

I stayed in the Avenue Hotel for 2 nights at the end of October 2009. I was on a work trip with 2 colleagues, and it was my first time in Copenhagen. I cannot really on the hotel's proximity to the main central area etc as we were attending an event at the Bella Center (out of towen towards the airport) each day. The hotel was perfectly located for this - just a few minutes walk to the Forum metro stop, which took us straight there in less that 20 minutes. The clean & efficient public transport made a welcome change from London!

The service at the Avenue Hotel was great - all the staff were super helpful, polite & spoke perfect English. The lounge area was lovely - really relaxing, calm & welcoming. There is a fire & loads of books, comfy sofas & relaxing music. Breakfast was fine for me - they had boiled eggs, nice bread selection, pastries, cheese, meats, coffee, juice & cereal.

My room was also great - comfy bed, clean, decent lighting & bathroom, flat screen TV, digital safe & wi-fi. Perfect for a 2 night business stay, and I wouldn't hesitate to come here again if I felt like exploring Copenhagen properly.

We really liked this hotel. It has that effortless style that the Danes do so well. Our room was not large but it was simple and elegant. The lounge was a joy to wind down in and breakfast was very good. The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was a little outside the centre and the walk was not particularly pretty but we liked being on the edge of the trendy Norrebro district.

Stayed at the Avenue Hotel for 4 nights in early September 2009. In selecting this hotel, you must know that it is not in the city center. I booked knowing that. I was looking for a reasonably priced hotel that included a breakfast. This was it. The number of choices were not large. If you were staying 2 or 3 nights in Copenhagen, the location should not concern you. 4 or more nights became a drag. I asked for a room overlooking the courtyard and they honored it. The room was extremely quiet. Typical size Euro room. It had a safe and refrig. but no alarm clock, or coffee/tea machine. Ice must be requested from the front desk. Staff were nice but not overly friendly. Arriving at 12 noon I was told to come back after 3 even though there appeared to be plenty of rooms.
Breakfast was very good. Lots of choices with some daily variation. But never any danish. Their web site makes the property appear more hip than it actually is. You must pay to use the business center.
The metro from the airport takes you a couple of blocks (Forum Station) from hotel. A more stop on the metro would take you into the heart of Copenhagen. Overall, not a bad choice as long as you know where it is located.

I was hoping for a hotel in a neighborhood location with some charm, this is not the hotel. It is located on a very busy and ugly street. The first room I was given was on the first floor in the front and felt like it was in the middle of the street. I requested another room and got it, which was nice. Although three blocks from the Metro, the Copenhagen metro is not extensive and not that convenient for sightseeing. I found myself walking 20 minutes into the city on a number of locations and the walk was along the busy street and not enjoyable.

Otherwise it was a pretty average foreign hotel. But the location killed it for me. I would not stay there or recommend it.

This hotel was great. I would give it 5 for value but for the actual cost overall in Copenhagen. It was value on Danish terms but not value in terms of other places in Europe.
Very clean, tidy and the bar is very well stocked. My girlfriend loved the hot chocolate and all the books in the lounge area were brilliant to thumb through.
I liked it here a lot because it was comfy, pretty and so warm!
The breakfast was amazing.
Copenhagen on the whole is so, so pricey though.
