“Comfy and quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

The B&B is a little way up a lane out of the village centre. It's in a quiet setting.

The room we had was small but perfectly adequate for a one or two night stay when all we needed it for was to sleep in after making the most of the terrific walks round and about. Other rooms were bigger.

The bed was very comfortable and the room itself was decorated to a high standard with no fuss.

The bathroom had a really good shower.

The breakfast table overlooked the village, so lovely views. The breakfast itself was very tasty with a selection of help-yourself fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurts etc. Then the cooked breakfast was perfect - egg, bacon, sausage, tomatoes, mushrooms with as much toast and marmalade you could manage. The filter coffee just kept on coming. A super breakfast to keep you going all day.

The landlady was very informative and a treat to talk to. A lovely experience. We will go again.

Room Tip: As the location was quiet and there were so few rooms I don't think any would give you noise tro...

Can thoroughly recommend this lovely B&B.It's very well located with easy off-road parking. Our room was very comfortable & spotless. Ann was extremely hospitable & gave us useful information about where to eat. The breakfast was excellent as were the views across the village to the surrounding hills.

Would recommend this bed and breakfast to everyone. It was spotlessly clean, lovely breakfast and Ann was very welcoming with hints and tips about where to walk and eat etc. We were there just after Easter when the weather was bitterly cold, but the twin room we stayed in was so cozy and warm, I felt very much at home. The location is ideal, with walks from the doorstep and just under 2 miles from Bakewell. We want to go back in warmer weather to explore more of the area and we will definitely want to stay at chy an dour. One of the best guest houses I've been to in the uk.

We travelled from Norwich on a 3 day break with daughter & grandson. We have previously stayed with Anne & Stuart (some 20 years ago). Other than the increase in our ages things there were just as wonderful, and their hospitality was second to none. The location is ideally suited for walking or as we did on this particular occasion visiting places of interest for our grandson (aged 4yrs). We went into Bakewell, visited Chatsworth & went to the Heights of Abraham. The accommadation was spotless, warm and extremely comfortable. The full english breakfast I would highly recommend, especially while taking in the wonderful views. There was a a pub and hotel in the village which welcomed children early in the evening for meals.I have very fond memories of our previous stay and again come away with nothing but praise. We hope to visit next year and take advantage of their hospitality and central location but this time to do more walking.. The village itself is really lovely and we found everyone really friendly. If you have any thoughts of staying around this area, I would have no hesitation in highly recommending the Chy-an-Dour. Thank you once again for a wonderful 3 days. Ian & Sheila.

Room Tip: Both rooms in the house were excellently finished and extremely comfortable. One twin, the other dou...

A sensational guest house! We stayed for 2 nights in this very welcoming and homely B&B. Anne did a wonderful job. Our room was very clean and pleasant with a super comfortable bed, and little touches that made the difference. Breakfast, complete with a fabulous view over the village of Ashford-in-the-Water, each morning (which is worth and hour or 2 or anyones time), was fantastic. The location was perfect for exploring the south peaks too. We strongly recommend a stay!

Just got back from staying at this delightful B&B for 6 nights. Received a warm welcome and the hospitality continued for the remainder of our stay. Excellent location, plenty of places to visit and all within 45 minutes. If you have not visited this area before check out Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Bakewell, Matlock and Matlock Bath, Dovedale and also many walks if thats what you prefer. Monsal Trail is a good one, branch off at Millers Dale for some refreshment at the Anglers Rest.
Our room was excellent and a relaxing place to return to after full days out. Breakfast's were superb with plenty of options.
Thank you to Ann and Stuart for a great B&B.

Me and a friend decided to go to Derbyshire over the Bank Holiday Weekend. I rang round some places and they were all full. I rang the "Chy-an-Dour and they had availabilty for the weekend. So glad I booked. It is a quaint Bed and Breakfast situated in Ashford in the Water near Bakewell in Derbyshire. We had a warm welcome from Ann, one of the owners and was very impressed with our room. It was a twin room with ample space. Spotlessly clean. The cooked breakfast was excellent with gorgeous views of Derbyshire to enjoy whilst eating. Excellent customer service throughout. You couldn't ask for anyone to be more helpful. Will definitely be staying again.
