“Comfort in the Country”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 19, 2012

We stayed for 3 nights to celebrate ours and my parent's wedding anniversaries. We were greeting upon arrival by Mary, who had bought us an anniversary card and a bottle of wine! We were also provided with a welcome back, which included home baked scones and cookies - What a welcome!
We stayed in "The Oaks", which is very comfortable and extremely well equipped, with just about everything you could think of. There is also a great selection of reading material including fiction, along with plenty of information on restaurants and attractions in the local area.
The location of the Barn is excellent, in a peaceful setting, yet within walking distance (15 mins) of the village of Hope, where you will find a variety of small shops to stock up on supplies. There are also a couple of eateries - a Chinese and an Indian restaurant.
Also within walking distance (5 mins) is a local pub, which is very good, with reasonably priced food and drink. If you want to go further afield in the evening and require a taxi, discuss it with Mary, as taxis are quite hard to come by in the area. I can highly recommend 1530 Restaurant in Castleton, if you want a special evening meal - ask for Alicia.
There is so much to see and do in the surrounding area; Derwent Dam, Castleton, Bakewell, Buxton, Matlock Bath, Heights of Abraham, Crich Tramway Museum, Chatsworth House (to name but a few). It was great knowing that after an action packed day, The Barn was waiting for us on our return to put our feet up and relax. If you are looking for a place to chill out, you will certainly find it here - Pure comfort in an idyllic setting.

I visited The Barn a few days before I got married at Losehill House. It is the best cottage I have stayed in. Mary thinks of everything, is flexible helpful and makes your stay even better. I have been again since and will return regulary - as will my family. The Barn is in a gorgeous setting, is beautifully furnished and is so comfortable and welcoming - it is home from home but with something special. The place is perfect for exploring, walking and the pub 5 mins away (The Cheshire Cheese Inn) is fantastic. I cannot recommend this place enough!!!

The Barn at Mead Farm provided a wonderful base for exploring the Peak District. The welcome pack and scones on arrival were much appreciated. The Barn is in a beautiful setting and just a short walk from the centre of the village. The owners have paid attention to detail; The Barn is well-equipped, tastefully decorated and nicely furnished. It comes highly recommended!

My husband, 2 children (3yrs & 8 months), granny and I had a wonderful weekend at this beautiful cottage. It is extremely well kitted out with everything you could need including toys for the children. It is also in a great location- walking distant to a lovely pub and village of Hope and plenty of great walks straight from the door. Would highly recommend it!
