“Pub chain restaurant, ok for a bite to eat at lunchtime”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

I called into The Fallow Deer on a monday lunchtime with my wife and daughter, together with my brother in law and his wife and son. The kids are both toddlers who enjoyed the large box of toys provided and had great fun emptying the contents onto the floor.

The service was a bit inconsistant, we only really had one lady serve us but she seemed a little unsure and unexperianced. Though she seemed to try her best.

Food wise, its the usual crummy chain pub microwave special which you get in pretty much any other chain pub. However it was 2 courses for £10 which is good value. Especially if you want an inexpensive pub lunch. I had pork chops with chips and a sort of sauce over the chops. Crude but actually quite nice. My wife and brother in law had ham, egg and chips which was again ok and good value. The kids had jacket potatos which seemed to go down well, although they did get the order wrong it was fixed quickly enough.

To sum up, i would visit again, not for a romantic evening meal but for a cheap bite its fine by me. Its just a shame that weatherspoons seem to do this sort of stuff much better.

“Needs to step up”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

Have been visiting this place since it opened as it's a great halfway spot to meet up with friends and family. Food has always been ok, exactly what you expect from one of these type of chain pubs, never had to send anything back. Decor is pleasant although looking a little tired these days .but I have a real thing about good customer service, working in the hospitality business myself I know how important it is to look after customers, this place really needs to work on it's staff the majority don't have the best people skills just the odd one. There is no consistency, served by two or three different people, nobody asking if everything is ok with your meal and very slow service, more on the bar side that the food side. Wouldn't take much to get this place back on track. A little put off going back will probably start visiting the Rams Head at Disley instead as we get better customer service down there.

i have been going to the fallow deer since it opened which involves a 40 mile round trip.
you could not wish for a more caring staff, they really make the evening.
The food has always been spot on and its nice to find a pub that caters for the smaller appetite

Keep up the good work

“Awful food”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Visited here for lunch during half term with two children and a friend. It was very busy so perhaps we could understand the long long wait for the food to arrive, not good with two starving children. The Fish Pie looked and tasted hideous, it had obviously just done 5 minutes in the microwave and tasted awful. The veg served with it was cold and over cooked. The other meals were also cold but we didn't dare complain incase it took another hour to get replacements. I will not be coming here again and this is the second time we've had bad food at the Fallow Deer.
