“Very welcoming for walkers.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2014 via mobile

Stayed two nights. Rooms clean, comfy beds. Food good standard pub fayre. Staff all very friendly. Sign outside says 'muddy boots welcome'. Personally I would take them off at the door to save the carpet though. Highly recommended for Pennines Wayers and other walkers.

“Friendly staff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

After a long days walking we visited the Rambler for evening meal two courses for £12 each was a good price food was average but the beer was good and the staff were really friendly which more than made up for it. Would have been even better if they had lit the log fire on a cold December night it was a bit chilly so don't forget your thick jumper!

“perfect place for a pub meal,”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

Eat here a couple of times staff really friendly, good is really good, what you want from a pub, not anything more than it claims to be,
would certainly plan to eat here again.
Staff were really friendly

“Peak perfection”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013

My partner and i stayed here overnight while visiting Buxton to watch Leo Sayer. We decided to make a weekend of it and walk Kinder Scout the next day. I was surprised given our experiences to see any negative reviews of this place. We arrived early for check in and it was not a problem. The owners and staff were very friendly and welcoming as were the local people. Our room was fantastic with a lovely view of the hills and a lovely comfortable bed, TV and tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel has bags of character and the bar area was welcoming with a roaring fire and a well stocked collection of premium malts. The bar man was very helpful. The next morning we had a perfectly cooked breakfast and all for £60.00 for both of us. Fantastic value and we will certainly return. Thoroughly recommended.

“More than adequate”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2013

We visited the Rambler after a short walk up the Pennine Way. We had planned to go to the Nags Head but discovered it was closed on Monday and Tuesday. I had read a poor review for the Rambler. However we received a warm welcome, drank the excellent local bitter, and were served good English pub grub piping hot. I had fish and chips and my husband had the beef and ale pie - both very good and generous portions. The Rambler is in an excellent situation for those wanting to walk in the beautiful Peak District and has 9 rooms if accommodation is needed.
