Stayed for two nights with three mates and had something to eat after we had checked in. Having eaten here before, when staying back in March, we knew pretty much what to expect. Some of the dishes are better than others but I suspect most of them come out of catering pack boxes.
We had shared starters of nachos and cheese-stuffed Jalapeno peppers. Both were okay but nothing special.
I chose a homemade chilli from the mains but it was very disappointing – a weak gravy-like sauce and what seemed like cheap mince and chilli beans with a tiny bit of chilli powder thrown in it.
The other meals were, again, okay but nothing special and the chips looked brown and soft. Fortunately, given that we hadn’t eaten since lunchtime and were eating at 9pm after a two and a half hour car journey we would have eaten anything within reason.
We ordered a bottle of red wine with our food and we think it was Shiraz. I say “think” as the label merely described the wine as “Red” (“Jarrah Wood Red” to be precise) with no clue as to grape variety whatsoever.
If you’re staying at The Rambler it’s handy for food if you’re hungry and it’s late but I couldn’t honestly recommend it as somewhere you’d make the effort to go to.
On the plus side the staff are a friendly, helpful bunch and make you feel welcome.
