My husband and I stayed at the Mykonos Grand 26 Sept - 01 Oct 2007 as part of our honeymoon. We LOVED it!!
The room: We stayed in a Sea View room that was spotless - and bug free! I've been to many islands in Greece and there are always huge bugs. Not here! The room was beautiful, spacious and traditional Greek (marble floors, lots of white and blue, casual but chic). We had a cute little balcony to watch the sunsets on. Bathroom was a good size (huge for Greece) and very clean.
The service: OUTSTANDING. Check-In was a breeze. Check-Out was a breeze. My husband's birthday was on the second night of our stay. I worked with the staff to set up a surprise (private) birthday dinner on the beach. Maria, the woman assigned to us that night, was AMAZING!!! She set up the entire thing - table under the balcony on the beach, iPod full of music, a big fire when it got dark out for us to hang out by. She made excellent food recommendations (the food is the same as the menu inside - I had ostrich) and when he ordered dessert, she also made a make-shift birthday cake out of a chocolate muffin from the kitchen - complete with a candle! Her and I sang "Happy Birthday" to him and we had a blast.
Maria then left us alone to hang out and listen to music, dance, be alone by the beach. When we returned to our room, there was a "do not disturb" sign on the door - I thought my husband had put it there before we left. He had not. We opened the door and our room was glowing - candles were everywhere and on our bed was a huge heart made of rose petals! We were floored! It was the perfect end to a romantic night.
During the day, the pool staff was really nice and often came around the pool to spritz our faces with water and sometimes they brought complementary ice cream around! Yum!
Area: Agios Yiannis is secluded and takes a little bit to get to Hora (Mykonos Town). The town is fun, go see the windmills & eat there. We also ate in Ourno a couple of nights. It is walking distance from the hotel and the restaurant Ithaki is really good.
Hotel beach/pool: Both excellent.
Spa: Had a pedicure before we left (my old one was wearing out. Not bad. Expensive for a pedicure. I didn't have time to try any other services (busy being on my honeymoon) but I wouldn't just go for a pedicure.
Overall Impressions: Can't wait to go back. Quit, beautiful, luxurious, unpretentious, perfect.
Notes: A couple families with small children - the kids seemed to love it and the staff was so nice to them! The staff is amazing.
