“Wonderful Honeymoon!!”

Kavos Hotel

I just realized that I did not write a review of this hotel from my honeymoon last September!! Well my memory still serves me right and I know that this was a great choice. We loved the location and the quiet and quant surroundings. We rented a car and it was so convenient to be able to park it (for free!!). We reserved a honeymoon suite and either they have multiple rooms they call the honeymoon suite or we got a different room because it was not the same as some of the other pictures. No worries though because our room was great!

My only complaint was when we arrived we noticed that there were tiny ants all over our bed, the table and couch. We quickly realized they were coming from the flowers that the staff used to decorate our room for our honeymoon. Sadly we had to quickly throw them outside but it solved the ant problem!!

My wife and I spent 18 days at the Kavos from 8 to 26 September, staying in Villa A. Since there are already numerous reviews of the Kavos and Naxos on Trip Advisor, I will limit my review to a few compliments and criticisms. First of all, Barbara the manager is perfect for her job, being very friendly and helpful. Many positive things have been written about her in other reviews and I can only echo them. Regarding the hotel itself, we found it to be somewhat overpriced (180 euros) and beginning to show its age. The complex was built in 1989 and is in need for a radical facelift. The doors and windows of our villa were sagging and one of the bedroom shutters couldn't close. Barbara did tell me that it is due for work this winter though. The living area of the villa and its garden were the best points and we enjoyed them both (our dog enjoyed rolling in the grass). On the negative side, the mattresses were uncomfortable. The bathroom was small and getting in and out of the tub/shower was difficult. There was no shower curtain, only a half glass, which didn't prevent spray from getting everywhere. Forget white fluffy towels - they were hard and a bit yellowed and didn't have the smell of cleanliness - maybe caused by the well-water? Bed linens were frequently yellowed and worn. In the kitchen, the refrigerator was one of those little old-fashioned ones with a non-defrosting freezer compartment, meaning every two or three days it was necessary to turn it off and defrost it otherwise the door would not close. It would have been nice to have a few hooks around to hang jackets, towels, etc. Outside, the garden was very pretty but small trash left under the bushes was never picked up. The two cleaning ladies who were very nice and competent, always showed up around three or four in the afternoon just when we had returned from the beach or lunch and would have enjoyed resting in peace. Noise from the exhaust fan from the restaurant kitchen could be heard from our villa, and the proximity of overhead high-tension cables passing close by was a little upsetting. We are not pool people so I cannot judge the hotel's pool. We preferred the Plaka beach which was about a ten minute drive away. The restaurant menu is aimed more for Americans and North Europeans so we did use it. The tavernas along the beaches and in town are plentiful and much more varied (and considerably cheaper).
This was our third visit to Naxos. I remember passing by the Kavos on the first visit in 1993 and recall it very new and a bit sterile. Now with the trees and plants grown it is very green and appears very nice from the road. The owners just need to make some improvements and I hope my comments are well taken.

“I'd definitely go back to Kavos”

Booked a villa for May through i-escape.com for my wife and our 11 month old baby and had a wonderful time. Barbara and all the staff were fantastic - especially when our flight back to Athens was unexpectedly cancelled - she leant me her car to drive to the airport to sort out travel arrangements.

The food was very good and it's a sociable place - all the ameneties of a hotel coupled with the privacy of a self-catering villa. The gardens were immaculately kept and the hammock was a perfect place to be with a beer to watch the sunsets.

The walk into town was 20 minutes and Naxos is a small taxi journey away so dinner options are easy.

we had a wonderful time at kavos for the first week of our honeymoon--we picked it after reading the fantastic reviews on tripadvisor, and they didn't steer us wrong!

barbara, the manager, was incredibly helpful, filled with great suggestions for island exploration, restaurants and little secrets for getting by on the island.

the rooms were clean, big and well taken care of, but beware the hard beds and somewhat uncomfortable mattress--it makes for achy mornings! also, our room had an ant problem in the kitchen area, but we didn't cook, so it wasn't much of an issue for us.

the hotel is a 10 minute walk to the idyllic agios prokopios beach...and a wonderful 45 minute walk to the main island town, chora. i will review all the restaurants we went to as well, but don't miss "labyrinth" up in the winding, labyrinthine streets of chora. it was yummy and romantic.

all in all, a great stay--we'd do it again.

This hotel looked very special on its website and it really lived up to expectations. We stayed in a studio - beautifully maintained, fixtures and fittings of the highest quality - particularly in the shower room , surrounded by lush gardens. The care and attention to detail was excellent - we arrived to sprays of Bouganvillae left on the rolled-up towels and I particularly loved the fact that a fresh flower was left by the maid on the coffee table each day. All the staff were extremely (and naturally) friendly and helpful. The infinity pool with its surrounding well-furnished terrace and bar/restaurant is the heart of this hotel - to call it fabulous doesn't do it justice! And the views are wonderful - across to the adjacent island of Paros and the more distant Ios, with the Stelida headland between - this hotel must have some of the best views on the island. We ate at the poolside restaurant several times, both for lunch and dinner - the chef was obviously very talented and I actually think provided the best gastronomic experience of our holiday.
Thanks Barbara.
