“A Jewel in the Town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 25, 2012

We spent one night here as a stopover on the way to the beach, and we are so pleased we did. The hotel itself is full of Cuban charm furnished to a high standard. The rooms were spacious and elegantly decorated with all of the amenities and home comforts we needed on this trip. The staff were courteous and friendly and the food served at breakfast was a refreshing change to the 'eat as much as you can buffet breakfasts' we ate elsewhere. This was truly the jewel of this little town which has some beautiful little spots to visit.

Spent one night here. Lovely rooms! spacious and and furnished in a colonial style. A bit noisy at night. Hotel restaurant not worth it! Breakfast included in the price but don't expect to much! i suggest you use the restaurant 'El Meson' across the street

Such a great room, but like any town in Cuba be prepared for loud live music til late... Tho in this case it was truly excellent music!
Was disappointed because a well known travel guide extolled the excellence of the breakfast... However it was the usual, fruit and egg, never mind, the place was beautiful

Truly a pleasure to stay in this fine boutique hotel right in the center of Sancti Spiritus. I stayed in this charming establishment on both trips I've made to Cuba, in 2009 and 2012, and the level of service and quality has stayed excellent. The restaurant is also probably the best in town and only adds to the overall experience. Hands down the best place to stay in Sancti Spiritus, if not in the whole country. (Photos attached.)

The Hostal Del Rijo in Sancti Spiritus is very well located, just off the busy main square on a quieter square, and a short walk from the pedestrianised shopping street. It is in a former grand colonial mansion and so the communal areas and bedrooms are full of character with high ceilings.
We were initially given a room on the street which seemed great at first, but on Saturday night we discovered it was right opposite a Cuban nightclub with very loud music until the early hours. We asked to move rooms and were given a new room at the far side of the hotel which, although didn't have a view, was very quiet and so we had a good nights sleep in the end.
The room was comfortable, with a great bathroom and firm bed. Breakfast was basic but the evening meal in the hotel restaurant was quite good.
Overall, the hotel was fine at it looked to be probably the best in the town.

Room Tip: Don't get a room overlooking the street if you are staying at the weekend and want to sleep befo...

An historic converted old family mansion full of character and charm, the pictures speak for themselves. Centrally located for walking around the town. As in all of Cuba the food was disappointing but they clearly made a wonderful effort with the little produce available to them. Service was very good and friendly.

Room Tip: The windows are original so no sound proofing and the road outside is noisy night and day

A great character hotel in a former house of a local dignitary, with rooms of varying shapes & sizes. All rooms viewed were clean and of a good size, but some were without decent windows (being to the back or side of the property).
Rooms had a small minibar which was reasonably priced, and a good breakfast was included. Some rooms faced the street and were quite noisy during the night, as revellers & cars passed by. No WiFi or Internet was available. The hotel is very close to local markets, and various interesting locations in Sancti Spiritus.
